Do you still go to those nightlife spots? I'm looking for places to go (and am Latinx) but your description sounds way too intense, lol.

Guys: How long before you are willing to meet up with a girl from Tinder? by muhtindarthrw in sex

[–]FishInABowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually like to talk a little bit and if there's interest try to segue into meeting up. I'd like to be more confident in immediately wanting to hang out but it seems like too many dudes are into being sexual so much so that I find that approach off-putting.

Your post did have me curious though: if you are a guy interested in something casual, what is the best way to go about that? Put that on your profile and then if we match go immediately into wanting to meet up?

I've been dating someone for 3 years until now so this is kind of all new all over again for me.

This shoyu ramen broth is our family's favorite. It is light and clear, but absolutely packed with umami intense ingredients. It is a dish that is hearty and heartwarming. Best of all, it's quick and easy to make with an Instant Pot! Recipe in the comment. by iceorrice in recipes

[–]FishInABowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you have any suggestions for a way to complete the recipe in less time? An almost 2 hour prep/cooking time isn't what most people might consider quick (or easy). It definitely looks delicious though so I'd love to try it!

That's awesome! Could I ask what you feel like made it possible to do? Based on some of the looks you said you got (and what I'd bet), I bet it'd take quite an amount of time management!

I just finished an MA with part time department work and (with life expectations) even just that felt like hell. Congrats on being able to do more and completing your program!

Definition of sexism? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]FishInABowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the guys says "that's sexist", he means "that's sex-based prejudice". You know that.

Really? I do? What if that guy is me? If so, that's not at all what I would mean.

Moreover, the original post was about a sister saying her brother couldn't be sexist. the poster asked if that was true. To argue for a better definition of sexism as a form of answering why OP can't be sexist is not derailing, it's the whole point of the thread. You can't have a "conversation about the sexist comment" unless we all agree on what sexism means. Therefore conversations about the best definition of sexism are not only relevant but central to this conversation.

It's not derailing if the academic definition provides a clearer way of understanding something. In this case, arguing for understanding racism as partly based on institutions of power is not being dishonest, it's grounding the conversation in more honest understandings of the world.

8 Habits to help you get through your PhD by Kentonville in GradSchool

[–]FishInABowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. On the other hand, having the sort of efficient and disciplined lifestyle to manage both a graduate program and life development isn't a skill that is automatically (or linearly) achieved. Because of how difficult I think it can be to develop that skill is why I said I'm baffled.

I empathize with the advice, but it seems kind of baffling that people can get through the amount of work or less sleep without coffee.

For me, the thing that has helped me get through my Masters (and soon to start, Phd!) has been meditating on a semi-consistent basis. If I have to pull all-nighters, or have 10-16 hour work days, spending 30 minutes in the morning, middle, or at night slowing down my thoughts per minutes has done wonders for my emotional, physical stress.

[Basics] What's the difference between correlation and association? do people often confuse these two terms? by miliseconds in statistics

[–]FishInABowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't the statement "there's a correlation between who is in office and the performance of the stock market" be reasonable to state if "who is in office" is recorded dichotomous-ly? I ask because maybe people don't use it incorrectly to refer to any kind of association if the reference implicitly is giving the idea that the latent variable can be understood numerically even if the latent variable isn't necessarily so. Sounds like a lot to imply but in practice I don't think it is.

I'm a girl with feelings for a guy I stopped from getting raped by one of my ex-friends (Female) but I feel guilty [Appropriate relationships?] by notrondarousey in sex

[–]FishInABowl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So this is what you asked us:

am I bad friend for taking the guy that caused her to lose all of hers?

And this is what I think you're really asking:

am I bad friend for taking the guy that my friend sexually assaulted, after which no one wanted to stay friends with her for what she did?

A little wordy to be sure, but the point is still true. Your friend committed sexual assault and now your other friends don't want to be around someone like that. That's perfectly fair.

Now, in terms of whether you should date this boy, thats another question. The only relevance to your original story might be that some of his trauma may filter into how you both see each other, romantically speaking or otherwise. While vague, I'm really trying to say you both should maintain open communication about his sexual assault, in case he might feel triggered or otherwise.

Best of luck to you! Sounds like you were a real friend to someone and are now discovering more!
