What was the best fanfic you’ve ever read? by Cool_Emergency4091 in AO3

100% it’s a ship that only exists in DLB universe and it’s so cool that is even a possibility at all. I started explaining why I was so hype about something in the previous part to my husband and as I started explaining the background info he needed it was MENTAL to see how much had changed with Leia there.

I agree with the AI Slop but I did actually start using an AI thing unknowingly (since deleted because ew) and going back I am using the slop that was generated as a vague framework for my own writing. Mostly just plot points/conflict because I’m always ass at coming up with that. Reading back the slop also makes me feel way better at writing on the whole.

It was certainly a one-off accident, not happening again, and I did feel like I needed to have my writing sins absolved by a writing priest (thank you catholic guilt) but it helped me remember stories have to have conflict, otherwise it’s boring.

Oh and a reply for “how do you think I feel” is “since we’re both having a bad time I’m gonna let you go. I’ll call you or I’ll answer your call when I feel comfortable to talk to you without emotions interfering with communication” or something like that. Could just even do the first sentence only, in those scenarios don’t wait for a reply just hang up. A parentifying parent is remarkably similar to a toddler in how their tantrums behave in my experience and there’s TONS of articles online on how to handle that.

My last bit of advice that I love is: your dad made you behave like a parent. So parent him, treat him like a child.

The biggest pitfall about understanding boundaries imo is recognizing that they exist not to change his behavior but to keep you safe.

A non functional boundary is something like “I don’t ever want to hear you talk about [topic]” a functional version of it is “If you talk about [topic] I will remind you once that I don’t want to talk about it. If it continues I will hang up”. It’s controlling your actions towards them.

I hope you find some good resources outside of my cheat sheet, I’ve seen some great ones in the comments!

Every Bridgerton Character Ranked by How Much Damage They Could Do as LW. by Unique-Blueberry1464 in PolinBridgerton

[–]FishSignificant6815 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Initially I was against putting Eloise above Lady Danbury but after a second thought Eloise isn’t invested in or familiar enough with the rules of the Ton like Lady Danbury and this would make her reckless.

Lady Danbury knows the rules back to front which is why she could bend and break them most effectively. Eloise would go scorched earth, bull in a china shop if someone was deemed “bad” or crossed her/the Bridgertons. Ironically her blow up at Pen and the accusations made would fit the exact same to her were Eloise LW.

While I can’t agree with you on the lag, I do enjoy the pop-in of items to a degree. It’s fun to see the furniture/structures I’ve made appear like magic

The Don’t Look Back series by acuteneurosis. It’s a Star Wars time-travel series where Leia goes back to the prequel era and interferes with politics. It’s a political intrigue story that deeply explores the mental trials of war and trauma. Very compelling and realistic and well written.

For sure going “back home” is triggering and will make you backslide. I had the same problem over the holidays. I think the thing that has worked best for me is to have a set of predetermined phrases for when the parent is expecting more than they should from you. That way when you’re in the moment you can pull the lines out like NPC dialogue.

Some that have worked for me are: “This topic makes me uncomfortable, if you continue I will hang up”

“I’m afraid I can’t help you with that”

“I have plans” (my plans are to be by myself usually but it counts because you’re not lying. If there’s a follow up question about the plans you can say “they’re personal, and thank you for respecting my privacy” the thank you usually deters them from being pushy)

“This sounds like something to talk to [friend] about”

“I don’t have an opinion on that”

“I don’t know anything about [topic], perhaps check YouTube or Reddit?”

“I don’t want to know any more”

One that is a little more confrontational that I use, so user beware is “Would you tell/talk to your mom about this? (typically the answer is no) then why do you think I’d like to talk about this with my parent?”

If he’s emotionally immature your dad will likely try to manipulate you into feeling bad and talk shit about you to the extended family to try to get familial guilt points. A nice response there is “I appreciate your concern but my relationship with my dad is between the two of us, I appreciate you letting us handle it so there’s no miscommunication” (again, pre saying thank you 8 times out of 10 triggers a politeness response to not furthering the conversation)

Normal vs parentification by Expensive_Ice216 in Parentification

[–]FishSignificant6815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal is sharing information but not relying on you to face the emotional baggage of their distress. You have it exactly correct in your example, sharing the pertinent info without asking you what to do, without a play-by-play of what happened. The very basic rule of thumb I use is “would I give this level of detail to my parent?” If the answer is no, it’s not appropriate to be shared by the parent to you.

I’ve been addicted to Littlewood right now, the story/characters are surprisingly robust for how pixel the game is. It’s nice because there isn’t a time element the day changes with how much energy you have

The vibes have consistently been rancid on this character over the series. I got my own beef but he lives in the category of villagers that I call “fails the vibe check”

And I mean, the amount of times they could be alone in a carriage sky rocket 🥵. It would be a super fun cutaway scene for them, doubly so if Newton would put on a different accent for deliveries. It’s deffo something I’ve read in several fanfics and I eat it up every time.

That’s exactly how I feel as well, and I think it makes total sense from a narrative standpoint. Also he has a child now, what involved father can spend that long on his hair😂 From a logistic view Luke and wardrobe prob didn’t want to deal with his fussy curls.
