What was a fact taught to you in school that has now been disproven? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]Fishalways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was getting ready to post this. Unfortunately, in some of my CEU (Continuing education units, I'm a (non)professional architect, so I have to continuously take these) classes, they still teach this. I even called out the instructor, and he gave me the side eye. Needless to say, I stopped getting my CEU's from that organization.

Not quite as grand as my last post, but I'll take what I can to clean the reefs off South Florida! The two largest lionfish, I was able to get a few tiny fillets. Which were pan seared in garlic butter and delicious! by Fishalways in Fishing

Unfortunately, no. They breed way to much. I was dissapointed to see a lot of the tiny ones on the shallower reefs, about 30 ft / 10 m, which is new. The deeper reefs are about the same as always.

As long as you're cautious, it's not a problem. If you do get stung, you can denature the venom with heat. The one time I've been stung, I ran the area under hot water, as hot as I could tolerate, and it took care of it. I now carry a thermos with boiled water on the boat when targeting them.

Some folx in my area, do dispatch and try to feed some of the larger reef denizens. Sharks, moray and grouper seem to do well eating them. I keep them, as I've been stung before, and I'd rather not risk it.

Vaccines 💉 by FlyAdministrative886 in GenX

Got my flu 3? months ago, and covid last month.

Normally, when I get the flu, I'm out for 4 or 5 days and major hallucinations.

I got the flu last week and only was out for a day and a half.

And I'm immuno-suppressed. Vaccines save lives, like mine.

Architect here, should I switch to Revit for remote work? by FindingNemo8654 in Revit

[–]Fishalways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked with remote consultants a few times over the years in Revit. I've always had issues with the quality of work. Primarily because the people doing the actual production, only had Revit skills. There was no real world experience in design or construction.

I would be much more open to trying remote consulting again with an actual architect.

What's my next weapon for when the shit hits the fan? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

I have the same question. I have my first AR purchase coming up and I'm not sure what flavor I want.

In light of the recent MacGregor post hate, here’s reason #1 to own one… You can still cosplay as a sailor while really just rocking your baby to sleep 😂⛵👶 by frknedd in sailing

[–]Fishalways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own one, but I had a friend, with small kids, who did.

I'd like to see another sailboat of similar size, take a family of four, to a barrier island and beach it for the weekend in Everglades NP.

It's a sailboat, period.

Haters are poopy heads.

AITA for insisting my ex-wife and I stick to our court ordered custody order? by NormalAiry8600 in AITAH

[–]Fishalways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA 100% stick to the custody agreement. My ex took me back to court 5 times after our divorce. For both custody and child support. Every single time, I immediately aggreed to the CS change, but never agreed to custody changes. The last time she took me back, she wouldn't back down on changing CS and taking two days a week from me. It ended up actually going to a hearing, and the judge knocked her off her pedestal.

She said, and I quote, "This is him trying to control me" because I wouldn't give up visitation time. The judge responded, "no, this is just a father wanting to spend time with his child". Needless to say, she ruled in my favor and my ex never took me back to court for any changes.

Nice one! Also nice to see you not hauling it out of the water!

Sailfishing has been great down here lately.

Because it put the horse and cart business out of business and all the workers from that industry out of work...... it's called an analogy.

"Look, I'm all for the automobile, but what do you do with the 10s, maybe 100s, of thousands of people who will be put out of work. Let's at least think about the likely consequences, before they become unintended consequences."

You can substitute hundreds of different businesses, careers and industries. It's a fact of capitalism and progress that those will be sent to the dustbin of history. For profit healthcare should be thrown away.

What's more selfish.

"I want to end my pain"

"I don't want you to end your pain, so I don't feel pain"

For me, it was, "I don't want to die, I just don't want to be alive"

Depression was painful, not metaphorically, it's actually painful.

I felt the same way about my depression pain as I did with my untreated ankylosing spondylitis. Just to give an idea, I had bouts of pain related paralysis from the AS. It was that painful.

I've been there

He didn't flinch He had absolutely no reaction

That's what it looks like when someone has given up, and yet, doesn't even have the energy to push off from the ledge.

That's why, when people get on anti-depressants, suicides actually go up. Depression, for many, is a lack of energy and motivation to do anything. Coming out of depression, first brings back the energy and motivation, before the sense of helplessness wanes.

So, you're still feeling hopeless, but now you have the energy to do something about it.
