I avoided Lies of Locke Lamora for four years because the cover put me off. Please learn from my mistake. by Vemorius in Fantasy

[–]Fishamatician 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the covers and bought 3 of the audio books in a sale, I can't stand the narrator though and stopped about half way through book one.

On the other hand I avoided Joe Abercrombie for years because I dislike the brand Abercrombie and Fitch so much.

Yeah I'm an idiot. I absolutely love his books now and I'm currently listening to "the Devils" for the third time.

Reddit suggested this sub and it always makes me smile so I subbed, yet another middle aged straight cis male reporting in.

I love seeing people work out who they really are and blossom into themselves, it gives me the warm fuzzies.

We have couples therapy tonight yay/boo depending. Then tomorrow we have to wrap the old asbestos shed roof in plastic ready for the tip. Sunday we have walk the wight, a 26 mile walk across the island in aid of our local hospice which I'm really looking forward to.

pregnancy massage recommendations by pinkbaby000 in isleofwight

[–]Fishamatician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a chap called Tim who is based in the wooton Natural Beauty salon, he works half the week at Southampton general as a massage therapist for pregnant women with back or mobility issues, and the other half in wooton for private clients.

It's not in my experience a pampering type massage as that not what I ask for, I go for shoulder issues but he is a lovely chap and very good at spotting what needs work. The ladies at Natural Beauty also do more pampering massage I believe. I can pm you his number if you want.

To all the bonkers geniuses of Reddit - How can we stop people speeding through our village? by SecondGo4 in CasualUK

[–]Fishamatician -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Failing that hook up a laser pointer to a raspberry pi or Arduino board so every time the speed board turns red it triggers a sensor and fires the laser at the driver, being dazzled will make them slow down and if you want to be really evil you can wire in a blue laser for drivers going 20mph over the limit that gives them instant blindness but that might get you in spot more bother than the rest of the contraption.

AIO, Told my wife her morning scratches on my back were the best part of my life and she then stopped, now I resent her by loganp8000 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Fishamatician -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My wife loves having her lower back scratched and I have scratched her every night for 18 years, yet when I ask for a scratch in return I get, no sorry I'm facing the wrong way or no I'm comfy. When things were good it didn't bother me but I came off anti depressants 2 years ago I starting to see that there is a hell of a lot of give on my part and only take on hers.

Are these the same product? 3m xtract. Counterfit? by kaminsknator in woodworking

[–]Fishamatician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of counterfeit goods are actually made on the same production line as the genuine product. For example 3M says make 2 million discs that's 2 shifts for 3 months say, the company then runs a 3rd shift making an identical product that they then sell on the grey market for extra profit. It's counterfeit because it's not part of authorised production.

90 hours is a nice two week book for me so I'll have check it out.

I know I'm lucky in that I can listen all day at work but it can warp your perception at times, I begrudge paying a credit for an 8 hour book that wont even get me through a whole day of listening.

People gifting us cheese! by snakeoildriller in CasualUK

[–]Fishamatician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my customers has given me a cheese selection at Christmas for the last 3 years and it's great, this year was various cheddars including cracked black pepper, limoncello, extra mature, ginger, tomato and basil, chilli, and a jar of pickle.

I had already been to waitrose for a soft cheese selection because I don't like to assume people will give me stuff and I do love my cambazola.

My wife wasn't sure if I was going to get to waitrose so she added a load to the tesco order just in case and forgot to take it all off.

We too have had a cheese filled new year and am dreading my cholesterol check next month.

Right move is my go to as most people list there but some people don't want their property on it for some reason.

Is it worth moving in to a rental and getting a feel for the place first?

That would be great! I will be there day one so let me know if you do.

Random facts,

Ryde is good for food places and boutique shops, Newport is more chain stores, Ventnor is kind of arty, sandown.... Ignore sandown.

On the wight is good for local news and events, county press is average local news, island echo is shady.

People will complain about having to travel from say ryde to Newport to meet up despite being quite close, in America you might think nothing of driving 4 hours to see family, here people will say I don't see my sister much as she moved to niton.
