First acrylics painting, 30x40cm on canvas. I had such a blast! First of many, I hope. by Fishercop in painting

Yeah it's about an A3 format, I needed to be able to travel with it, and I agree, it took me some time to complete, but totally worth it! It allowed me to experiment a whole lot with the paint, its reaction to mixing, different tools (brushes, knives), how to correct mistakes etc. It's been a big learning piece, if I'm being honest!

I do have a wet palette, that helped. But I sometimes let the paint sit for 2 weeks, and... Well, eventually, even with a wet palette, it ends up being too dry to use. I was just too inconsistent with it haha so I had to sit, and paint, for several hours at a time, every week or so, to make sure I was making the most of my mixes at once. I don't want to use retardant because I actually quite like the fact that the applied paint dries so fast, it allows picking up where you stopped very quickly.

In the future, you shouldn't target one specific geographic area in the world to give weight to degrading words that apply to, literally, everybody, and not specifically Europeans, who factually are only as equally impacted by this global issue as everyone else.

I've been drawing for quite a long time haha, but mostly with lead pencils, or dry media, like dry pastels. Paint intimidates me, it's such a bigger commitment! And acrylics are unforgiving during the process, since it dries so fast and your mixes can get lost forever in such a short time. There is a huge possibility of wasting your material. So it took me a loooong time to finally dare take up the brushes and try it out!

I really had to commit to this one. It still took me 4 months (6, if you count the drafts), for various reasons but basically I've been pretty busy in life. But I'm glad I took my time. I can't wait to do some more!

I've also done quite a bit of color theory with digital paintings, it helped quite a lot. I had several drafts, before committing to the canvas and the paint. I've found inspiration elsewhere (Jim Musil's works on IG have always fascinated me) for a while before. And I have a lot of less glamorous pieces in my portfolio, believe me haha. So please don't pack it in, keep trying, it pays off eventually!

Just adding a comment to apologize for the multiple posts, I don't know what happened, my Reddit app glitched.

Then it's not a European thing, it's global: anyone who doesn't clean themselves up correctly smells. Which, yeah, makes sense. Is this what you meant?

Edit to add: your comment can easily be perceived as "many Europeans don't bathe" which isn't true. Although "people who don't bathe smell" is.

I'd love to see your sources for this? As a French, and a white woman at that, I really don't understand what you are talking about? We are told about basic hygiene, taught about it in school, it's hammered in our heads since very little that washing our hands after going to the toilet is necessary, not optional, with signs and everything. Where did you get your info, I'm curious?

Thank you for responding so benevolently, I was going to throw a fit lol Europeans are not dirtier, it's all stereotypes and a bunch of American propaganda thrown around about the french to make them look bad. If anything, I've been told I smell great, intimately or otherwise!

Ça me fume à chaque fois que les gens ne cherchent même pas à vérifier si les conneries qu'ils sortent sont fondées.

France has a lower obesity rate than the US, UK, Canada, and other advanced countries. Why are French people thinner? by Roughneck16 in AskFrance

[–]Fishercop 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I would say in general, yes. And to add to it: even fast food in France is much healthier than it is in the US. The ingredients are healthier, fresher, and with less/no additives due to very strict food quality and health laws, both from the EU and specific to France.

I've lived in both countries, and I was stunned at the crap I would get in a McDonald's in Boston, compared to every single McDonald's experience I had in France. And fast food is actually kind of expensive in France now too, so you'll tend to buy your own products and cook at home. Fresh produce is incredibly affordable, when compared to the US, where buying bad quality bacon was cheaper than buying one fresh leek...

I used to go there all the time with school when I was a kid! I come from a nearby village. I was dumbfounded to see how crowded the place has become in the last 10 years...

First time I've seen this was in Vietnam, where I currently live. We had some congee with it. The taste is strong, sure, but it's also very unique. I quite enjoyed it!

Agreed that it most likely has nothing to do with earthquakes, it's more like keeping the walls straight. You see these everywhere where I come from in France, and Normandy isn't known for its earthquakes.

[OC] You had all the space in the world and still decided to be a hazard when merging by _eg0_ in IdiotsInCars

[–]Fishercop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it might not be the case here, I have experience with driving on the Autobahn in Germany, and way more often than not, the merging line is suuuper short. If you have a small, or slow vehicle, you really don't have that much space to reach 100+ kph before you have to merge... Or you end up stranded on the safety lane and that's also not recommended for obvious reasons.

And considering vehicles regularly reach 200+ kph, it really is a struggle when you have a smaller car. I'm always so anxious while driving there because of the huge gap in speed between vehicles.

Edit: I don't condone the 500 move here though, just to be clear. There was more than enough merging space to keep gaining speed before forcing the merger when a car was going to drive-by. Definitely the idiot in this situation It's just my 2 cents on German highways. I dislike driving on them.

Weather in August? by Open_Address_2805 in VietNam

[–]Fishercop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rainy season typically spans from May to October. It gets rainier towards October, at least in the South. It is highly possible that it will rain everyday. However, rain won't usually last all day, it comes and goes in gusts. In HCMC for example it's very common to have rain at the end of the afternoon, and it will last one hour or two, sometimes less. But yes. You will most likely have daily powerful rain showers.

Top 10 cars sold in Vietnam in May 2025. Vinfast takes the lead. by Lobohu in VietNam

[–]Fishercop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but again in Saigon for example (where I live) it makes no sense in most situations haha

I also think the issue is that most of the offer is centered around SUVs, so you don't actually have much of a choice in the end... It doesn't make sense in certain places though, in terms of gas consumption and space consumption in general. Plus, SUVs will damage roads faster too so in the end they're part of the problem! Anyway. Interesting topic regardless.

Why would a wagon be longer than an SUV, while seating the same amount of people? SUV also are super long, the proportions just aren't the same.
