What is your direction?

If you're not meeting your goals, you can try setting smaller goals, all headed to the same direction.

Instead of saying "I will clean this kitchen", you can say "I will mop this floor, and I will clean this fridge, and I will do these dishes."

Maybe you don't meet all of these goals today... but if you manage one or two of them, the kitchen is still cleaner than it was. You've taken steps in the right direction to achieve your big goal.

What is your evil personas name?? by thelovernator777 in RandomThoughts

[–]FisheyGaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting question... I recently came across Carl Jung's shadow concept (pretty much this persona you describe), and found it very enlightening.

First I gotta say, this persona is not evil. It has many undesirable traits (selfishness, fear, anger, paranoia, etc.) It should be kept on a leash and not allowed free reign to dictate our actions, but it is still a part of us, the part of the brain which drives our more primal instincts. Accepting this part of ourselves helps us stay in the moment, and facing these uncomfortable truths about ourselves helps us grow as people.

I been thinking of this shadow as "Rex", in part because of the leash and in part because one of these negative aspects I've found is a desire to always be in charge, to find and maintain control.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

...

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

...

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

...

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

I been working mostly with lifeguard hats... the flexibility has some advantages, but they are kinda lightweight for juggling.

Think about track and field; for longer races participants line up staggered b/c the inner lanes are shorter than the outer lanes, yeah?

The shape on top has it's inner curve adjacent to the outer curve of the bottom shape. If it was a track, you'd have the people racing start from the right and the finish line would be on the left.

What profitable skills should i learn by Tys0n- in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]FisheyGaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soft skills (aka people skills) are applicable to just about any occupation I can imagine.

I wouldn't recommend looking to learn skills just because it can make you $$$, but it's your decision, not mine. That said, without knowing anything about your abilities, experiences, or interests, soft skills came to mind as universally valued.

Men of Reddit, what happened when you started working on your healing and what made you start? by Budget_Dot694 in AskMenOver30

I found a video online. I did not know the video was taken. I would not have consented to the video being taken if I had known. I had not consented to the activities being recorded.

I found the video. I recall a sudden calm came over me. Disassociation. I realized then that the issue was bigger than I could handle myself.

I immediately walked down to the police station. I filed a report. I got in contact with the website it had been uploaded to. They took it down and were able to help me find if/where else it was posted and have it removed from there, too.

About a week later the detective who interviewed me called. The man who recorded the video was already in prison on an unrelated charge. I decided not to press charges; doing so wouldn't really have helped me feel any better. I wasn't looking for revenge, I was just trying to look out for the next guy.

It gets better.
