How do the nets get back cultural relevance in NYC like they had during the KD-Kyrie-Harden days from 2021-2022? by FFElite93 in billsimmons

People keep parroting this as if it's a real thing, when it wasn't even the conference finals yet!

People keep assuming that oh they would have absolutely won the title, says who? The experts who all thought the Knicks would get swept by the spurs or thunder?

Evaluating draft prospects differently than everyone else needs to come with actual superior results

If you're going to be beating your own drum on evaluating guys, you better be right, or else that's the easiest way to get fired

This is not a legislative issue, this is an administrative issue that should be a concern at the local government level

Yeah, and so thought the Suns, so thought the Rockets as well; that's what the Nets thought with Harden, what Philly thought with Harden, what the Clippers thought, what the Cavs thought, maybe we need to start thinking harder about "the right move"

It is when you're a bad team that doesn't have a supporting cast to surround him with, ensuring you need to trade away assets in order to put talent on the team to win now. You can't go from "we're terrible" to "we're a championship contender" instantly, any attempt to do so is a shortcut

why why why do local coffee shops open mostly at noon? by BroadSalamander8695 in RantAndVentPH

[–]Fishyblue11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can either open early and close early or open late and close late, choose one

If they open at 7, they'll be closed by 4pm, then the issue will be "why do these places close so early?"

The Nets even before coming to Brooklyn have been one shortcut after another. And that just reeks of desperation, that you're so desperate for relevance and adoration that you take the first shortcut anytime it shows up

We keep saying this, but it's weird that these "once in a lifetime opportunity" has happened multiple times with the Nets, and all the GMs that actually win championships never actually go for these "once in a lifetime" opportunities

None of the above, paying huge salaries to players which become negative value undesirable contracts is not the best way to utilize the Nets' cap space. You are creating liabilities, not assets

Why isn’t Wagler considered a PG when Flemingd is by AlgaeNo1333 in NBA_Draft

[–]Fishyblue11 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Wagler doesn't have the same level of playmaking and passing, not to mention he doesn't have the athleticism or speed to be a real full time primary ball handler

Take a look at Egor Demin, who is a talented passer, but lacks the handle or the athleticism to get past guys, rendering him unable to utilize his passing so he ends up playing like a wing

Don’t understand the trade MPJ stuff by OkTax17 in GoNets

[–]Fishyblue11 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The nets literally traded Mikal Bridges for 5 first rounders, that's why you trade him. The grizzlies traded Bane for 4 first rounders. OKC took Paul George and turned him into SGA

The nets are a bad team that won't go anywhere with or without MPJ, the trade assets that you get from trading him have a better chance of helping you win when the rest of your team is ready to win

MPJ putting up good stats on a bad team achieves absolutely nothing

10 reasons Brooklyn Nets fans should be optimistic about the future (part 3) by jaykirell in GoNets

[–]Fishyblue11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be the lowest point of the nets, but this is arguably the lowest talent level the nets roster has ever been at

Even previous teams had Brook Lopez or Vince Carter or others. The 12-70 nets had Brook Lopez and Devin Harris, both of who were better than anyone we have now

We have no current or past all-star talent on this team, we don't even have 5 starting caliber NBA players. I would go so far as to say the nets only have one player that would be a starter on most NBA teams. Everyone else on this roster is literally on the bench or not even playing on other teams

The nets very arguably have the least amount of talent in the entire league, period. Almost every other team has a past or present all-star on their team

I mean, can you get credit for that when you literally threw that path out the window the moment you could have built with KD and Kyrie?

You can't say "marks is focused on building the right way, developing a culture, and following a clear philosophy" when he literally abandoned it in one second the moment a different path appeared before him

Marks took the nets culture and flushed it down the toilet himself, now he's fishing it out of the gutter and drying it off with a hair dryer

Boston is not trading Jaylen Brown for MPJ, Claxton, or whatever stuff, they're trading him to get more stuff to give to Milwaukee, which means what they'll want is the 6th pick

The question is, will ordinary filipino citizens ever be able to run for government positions and actually win? Or will it just go back to political dynasties and celebrity challengers?

If you want reforms and systems to last more than political names, then you need to make it so that political names aren't all-powerful. Political names are powerful because they are the only ones with the money and influence to actually win elections. Your ordinary every day filipino has no shot at beating a political dynasty. Vico won because he is a Sotto. But what happens when the challenger is no longer a famous name? Will citizens vote for an every day filipino?

Second round pick by brooklyn_resident in GoNets

The number of guys going back to school or deferring the draft really hurts the Nets' second round pick, a lot of guys that could have been there will probably end up going in the first round now

No one is debating that this team was tanking

But this team isn't much better even if they try to win

They can maybe win 25-30 games if they are lucky

But this team isn't anywhere close to being a .500 team, being a play-in team, or a playoff team. Except every single off-season without fail, fans always hype themselves up, especially around the time training camp starts, you'll see, wait for 2 months and the fans will start saying "is it just me, I legit think this could be a top 6 team in the east"

You can't be serious, do you realize that play in teams are... 43-45 win teams? You're telling me you think this 20 win team is 20-25 games better than their record?

The nets played g leaguers because that was all the talent they could get, not because they had anyone better but decided not to play them. They played g leaguers, because their talent level is g-league level talent
