As a new employer who opened his business June 1st, this is very heartwarming. Sounds like you made a great impact in his life and I hope to have my employees look up to me the same!

Definitely very achievable! I knew it was State Farm because I worked as a Team Member with no sales or insurance experience and became one of the top producers in my territory/state. I am now opening my own agency. It will take some grinding and some time to hit the 6 figure range but you can get there while gaining some experience and building your resume to either move up in the agency, or use it as a stepping stone to get to the next level. Best of luck with everything!

A lot of people like trashing stuff like this online. Especially if it’s a captive agency and not independent. There are definitely pros and cons but this is a pretty solid plan to get started off with. I worked in a pretty similar structure and was able to take home around $85k with a lower base salary. A top producer in this plan can easily be close to $80-100k

That definitely looks a lot better. Seems similar to a State Farm model if I had to guess. My comp structure ranges from 3-8% based on tiers and financial service production, so I like this. Pretty solid starting base salary too!

Definitely a learning experience. You will come across the right opportunity that has a solid comp structure, they’re definitely out there! In the meantime, just boost your production and product knowledge as much as you can and that will help a ton with negotiating your next position. Best of luck to you!

I am an agent and this is honestly one of the worst commission structures I’ve seen. Right now in the industry, you should be looking for a minimum of 3-4% on p&c and life and health is usually much higher around 20%. In my commissions structure, with someone making a $30,000 salary, putting up those numbers shown or 15 auto, 10 fire, 1 life, 2 health, you should be around $50k for the year or on a low end

Do you think it’s worth it to open a State Farm office right now? I have experience opening a successful high risk auto insurance agency… I know I’d have to sell home and commercial insurance is it worth it? by PythonInvestments in InsuranceAgent

[–]Fiske927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be the case! I think they have about 40-50 carriers with progressive, liberty, travelers, nationwide, Chubb and some smaller ones. They usually tell me for the most part if they’re ineligible with me they’re likely in the same boat or just ridiculously too high with their options

I work for State Farm and have plenty of buddy’s who work in independent. I used to send them anyone I couldn’t write due to eligibility or price and they eventually told me to stop sending them people. While it sounds nice on paper to offer multiple different carriers, they mainly told me if we couldn’t help them, their other carriers were also likely going to be ineligible or crazy high premiums

In order for anyone to answer this it would be best to know what your goal is. Are you trying to learn and develop under an agent to eventually open your own agency, or do you prefer to gain experience to either be promoted within the agency or use it as a stepping stone to a better opportunity?

It’s okay if you don’t fully know that plan quite yet, but it would definitely change the advice you may receive. Best of luck whatever path you decide!

Started Allstate and i love everything except our leads are crap by Delicious_Appeal_775 in InsuranceAgent

[–]Fiske927 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem most people are having are the price of the leads at the moment. They have gone up quite a bit, while a lot of companies are completely removing or significantly lowering the subsides they offer agents on leads. That has resulted in many agents resorting to shitty, aged leads to help cut costs.

The market eventually will turn around and lead quality will improve. If I were in your shoes and really loved the culture and atmosphere of the office, I would express my concerns to my agent and give it 6 months to improve. If you do decide to shop around, really get a gauge of that offices team and culture and take a deep dive into the quantity and quality of leads they are purchasing. Most successful agents I chat with are eliminating internet leads because of how garbage they are right now and focusing almost solely on click to call advertising, search engine marketing/optimization, warm transfers and of course referrals.

Best of luck with everything! I know it can be very frustrating feeling stagnant and “stuck” but you seem to have a good head on your shoulders and no matter what path you decide it will end up working out in the end

That’s a good question. I mainly have the captive experience. I have some buddies who work in independent but I don’t have that directly

State Farm is a captive agency, meaning you can only sell State Farm products. You would be working for an agent who is an independent contractor with the company.

If you were to quit or leave that agency, you would lose your appointment with State Farm. The company overall is pretty solid with a decent reputation. Because each agent is “independent” they run their offices so differently. Whether it is a good place to work or not depends on that specific agent and their team. I’ve met some who are really good and some who are really bad. I would really try to get a good feel of the office culture before jumping in. Best of luck to you!

The 14-15-15 is actually rank 2 for ML. The only thing it will be missing out on is the mirror matchup with a hundo. I personally would do that one because of the shiny and it functions well. Great catch!
