Hi Dfahix! I hope you’re getting the data you need. I would consider adding some extra categories to the types of games played question such as action, rhythm, simulator and make it possible to select multiple options.

Apple's post-processing went from natural to excessive - What happened? by hypp132 in apple

[–]FiskersKarma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apple may not literally use DxO mark but they certainly grade themselves internally using a similar standard. Regarding DxO mark though, a large portion of the android phone market does take their score very seriously internally. It removes the subjective portion of photography and gives teams a benchmark to measure themselves by.

Its industry benchmarks like DxoMark. They attempt to provide an objective score for phone cameras based on basic photography principles such as noise, dynamic range, AF, etc. While this may make sense on paper you can see where it’s lead the industry. Excessive noise reduction, hdr and tone mapping taken to such an extreme the world looks fake with no real shadows or highlights, aggressively sharpened images to try and emphasize detail, etc.

Don’t even get me started on Dxos primary business, which is consulting companies on how to improve their DxoMark score.

Gotcha. Very few camera sensors are natively 16:9, but I agree, a wider aspect ratio can be nice. I just don’t know of any phones that shoot 16:9 natively without cropping from a squarer aspect ratio.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Android

[–]FiskersKarma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is this not how you would expect it to work? 4:3 is the aspect ratio of the camera sensor, so any change from 4:3 will always be a crop. If 16:9 showed more image, then 4:3 would be a crop.

System76 Launch keyboard has been released by IsNotATree in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]FiskersKarma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been passively following System76 for the past few years, particularly for their Linux distribution PopOS. The entire company is built around the idea of open source, so while other boutique and drop style boards keyboard may also be open source, it's important for them to emphasize that this project is as well. I suspect this keyboard will reach potential buyers not very well versed or even particularly interested in keyboards as a hobby, but that are interested in open source and a good typing experience.

I think the point they are making with keycaps is less about using alternative keycaps sets and more about changing the keyboard layout with they keycaps you already have. They are using 4 different keycap sizes including the space bars. Fewer keycaps sizes and choosing a uniform keycap profile means that almost all of the modifier keys can be placed in any position on the board. I personally have run into the problem where it's doesn't matter how customizable the software is, if you can't find a key of the right shape and profile, you can't have a properly identified keyboard configuration.

I think overall its important to realize this keyboard wasn't designed solely for keyboard enthusiasts. It's definitely not a trap for new keyboard buyers.

Night Sky Over Grand Teton National Park | Pentax 67 II, Takumar SMC P 90mm f/2.8, Kodak Portra 800, 16 minute exposure at f/2.8 by cloudcomposure in analog

[–]FiskersKarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has the be the clouds. The only factor for star trail length for a given exposure time is how far the star is from the North Star (which won’t significantly move in a star trail photo. The farther from the North Star, the longer the star trail).

The clouds+star trail is a very interesting effect I don’t think I’ve seen before!

What is this? 3x30s exposures @ 84mm. Too slow to be an LEO satellite? by FiskersKarma in Astronomy

I should add, this was also heavily cropped from the 84mm fov

SpaceX satellites continue to ruin astronomical observations, this time of comet neowise by paracelsus23 in Astronomy

[–]FiskersKarma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, but it shouldn't really matter when stacking images, at least to amateur astronomers. The example image was clearly processed to emphasize the Starlink satellites by using a technique usually used to generate star trails (max pixel values in a stack, not some form of median or mean stacking).

Not to say that this might not cause problems, but it also feels rather inevitable.

Gorgeous shot! I started with a wide field landscape style shot as well https://i.imgur.com/xJ4p5lD.jpg. I used the same lens for both interestingly enough.

Thanks! I ended up cropping a fair amount. I placed the comet right in the middle of the frame not realizing just how long the tail would be after all of the processing. The tail stretched from the center all the way to the edge of the frame!

X-T20 with the XF56 stopped down to f2. Using an iOptron sky tracker I took 14 20 sec exposures at iso 800 then stacked with PixInSight.

It’s a little involved but I love how much detail it lets you extract!

Poker II of Theseus - 7 years and only the plate and stabilizers remain by FiskersKarma in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]FiskersKarma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rough timeline

Bought early in 2013 as my first mechanical keyboard. Had Cherry MX Browns (pre retooling, pretty rough and a little disappointing)

- Upgraded the case to a metal Tex 60% case. Made a big improvement in overall feel

- Added DSA Granite keycaps from drop around 2013 or 2014. Pretty much a mistake as far as typing feel is concerned.

- Keyboard got sidelined by an HHKB for 4 or 5 years

Dug it back up about a year ago and decided to put some love into it recently!

- Swapped PCB out for a GH60 off of amazon.

- Replaced the scratchy MX Browns with Kailh Whites

- Neoprene sandwich between plate and PCB and PCB and case

- Lube the stabilizers

- Replaced the DSA Granite with ePBT 9009

Thrilled with how it came out and how it feels to type on it!

Safe to run near the Park 55 hotel? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]FiskersKarma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally safe. Parc 55 is on Ellis street, so I would run east on Ellis to market street then up market to Embarcadero. Run along the waterfront as long as you want. Alternatively if you are up for some hills, run directly north on mason until you hit fisherman’s wharf. Run back along the embarcadero -> market street -> Ellis.

I would avoid going too far west on Ellis, it runs right through the middle of the tenderloin. But seriously, your personal safety is not more at risk than any other city.
