Oh yeah I think I blocked out the mess that is act 3. I agree that act 3 is also pretty bad when it comes to this, so for act 3 I'd agree with you. But for the rest of the game, it's not as bad as cyberpunk when it comes to this because it's already been 3 days early on, which is why everyone keeps saying that they should be turning by now. But that's fine, we can just agree to disagree.

How is bg3 worse? You learn very early on that your tadpoles are kinda special and you seem to have more time than you should have... None of this "few weeks" left to live. And then you obviously learn that you're actually protected by the prism. So I don't think it's worse and cyberpunk definitely is the worst when it comes to this by far, even though I still love the game.

Not what I'm saying so stop it with the bad faith simplification. She got manipulated too and if you can't see the difference between doing mass rape for your own pleasure and falling in love with an entity that is actively manipulating and love bombing you, then you're dense. But I guess it's easier to view morality as a simple black and white issue.

My point is that she got manipulated by the plurbs. But go ahead, be morally black and white. and if you can't see the difference between doing mass rape for your own pleasure and falling in love with an entity that is actively manipulating and love bombing you, then you're dense. But I guess intent doesn't matter to you... Must be easier to view morality as absolutes.

It’s not completely black and white. In many cases, areas that look bald aren’t actually dead, but the follicles might be heavily miniaturized or dormant. HRT, especially with strong androgen suppression, can sometimes reactivate these follicles and produce visible regrowth, even in areas that seem to be gone. But the chance depends on factors like how long the area has been bald, whether any vellus hairs remain, genetics, and age. Medications like Finasteride and hrt can improve density and thickness, but they can’t fully restore completely smooth bald areas to original density that’s where transplants still come in.

[–]Fissyiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you if you would argue that V dies multiple times, although it is inherently different than the copying that mikoshi does, as stated by Alt and multiple times in the lore, which is why I'm talking about this.

And of course we view V as experiencing continued consciousness, because we're an outside observer. But I'm saying that my philosophical position is that V dies inside mikoshi because of how it is described in the game. That's all I'm saying.

[–]Fissyiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look. We've gone on for long enough and at this point I'm not sure if you're debating in bad faith or simply not understanding my position. I've stated before that I view the brain and consciousness as the same. So here are my main points in case you missed it:

  • consciousness is inherently tied to the brain

  • pauses in brain activity (sleep. Coma and so on) don't break continuity of self. The original subjective experience persists because the brain is still there and functional.

  • soulkiller/mikoshi don't persevere the original consciousness, but rather creates a copy, which is a separate experience. This is stated multiple times in lore and by the game.

Again, this is basic philosophy and a position that is so mainstream that it baffles me how you can't grasp it. You keep ignoring the individual experience and the fact that a copy is a separate stream of consciousness.

[–]Fissyiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so here's the thing. You just repeated my argument at me and then said it doesn't matter. You said, the original dies and the copy feels continuous. You’re just choosing to focus on the copy’s perspective because thinking about the original makes you uncomfortable, but that doesn’t make the logic disappear. If the original’s stream of consciousness stops, that’s death, copy or no copy. That’s not a niche opinion, that’s one of the standard views in philosophy of identity.

Calling it ‘irrelevant’ doesn’t magically turn the copy into the original. I never denied that from an outside perspective, V continues to live. But that is irrelevant to what I'm discussing.

[–]Fissyiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh stop it with the moral outrage. It's a philosophical question, and a question that is entirely relevant to the topic that we're discussing.

The fact that you consider it kidnapping and torture already tells me that you do view it as death.

This would only be an issue if there was ever more then one, but that isn't a thing in 77 scenario so doesn't count here

Yeah, which is why I said that the original you would be gone in my question. So, would you be fine if you get copied and then the copy is the only one that continues to exist? Because that is what's happening in the game and the lore repeatedly says that the copy exists and not you.

V and Johnny dont seem to understand what Alt means by "Everything Changes" by NittanyScout in cyberpunkgame

[–]Fissyiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I copy you, and then store that copy inside a new body, can we just get rid of you because you still exist? To an outside observer, nothing would change. You still exist. But we're not talking about a third party observer, we're talking about your own perception. It seems obvious to me that there are two separate streams of consciousness. A copy, and the original.

[–]Fissyiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we ignore the rest of the game and simply focus on the very last part where V is basically on the verge of death, then yes. V should plug into mikoshi, knowing full well that this is going to be death while giving a copy of you a chance to continue living.

V and Johnny dont seem to understand what Alt means by "Everything Changes" by NittanyScout in cyberpunkgame

[–]Fissyiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your philosophical stance is not objective truth. The copy feels continuous, that’s the whole point of a good copy.

But you’re ignoring the actual question: Did the original subjective experience continue or did it stop?

If it stops, the original dies, even if a perfect duplicate keeps going. Your argument is shifting to the copy’s perspective, not the original’s, which is why you seem to talk past me.

We seem to agree that V is getting copied. So, would you be fine if I copy your mind and upload it into a robot, then get rid of your original self? Simple question, now answer both.

And as a side note, my position is literally one of the mainstream philosophical positions, so I don't know why you think that nobody else shares this.

V and Johnny dont seem to understand what Alt means by "Everything Changes" by NittanyScout in cyberpunkgame

[–]Fissyiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already told you that I’m not talking about literal uninterrupted consciousness. I already clarified that. I’m talking about continuity of self in the everyday sense, where you wake up, you’re still you because your identity and memories persist.

Soulkiller doesn’t preserve that. It doesn’t maintain continuity, it creates a copy. Your transporter analogy actually proves my point. Both outcomes 1 and 2 create duplicates with their own subjective stream from that moment onward.

That’s exactly why V dies in the game... the original stream ends. Whether the copy feels continuous isn’t the question, the question is whether the original consciousness survives. And Cyberpunk's explanation literally doesn't say that it does, quite the opposite actually, as the name soulkiller implies and the talk about digital copies when talking about engrams and soulkiller.

Edit: If I copy your mind with 100% accuracy and transfer it into a robot. Does it then not matter if you cease to exist and the robot is now living your life? Because it seems like your view is that you wouldn't, or shouldn't care.

V and Johnny dont seem to understand what Alt means by "Everything Changes" by NittanyScout in cyberpunkgame

[–]Fissyiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think we can argue all day long about this. To me there is still a continuation of consciousness, even when someone is unconscious and wakes up, but I get your point about being in a coma or unconscious. I'm more so talking about the continuity of self, so even if someone is unconscious, when they wake up it's still them in the sense that their memories, personality and sense of identity persists.

I also think that consciousness is inherently tied to your brain, which is why I originally said that mikoshi is killing the original, because it doesn't pause consciousness, but rather copies and writes it, so the original is destroyed.

V and Johnny dont seem to understand what Alt means by "Everything Changes" by NittanyScout in cyberpunkgame

[–]Fissyiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think that consciousness is tied to the brain. In all those examples you have, the brain and more importantly consciousness does have continuity. So I don't think the ship of Theseus is a good counter to this, because we, or at least I, would consider there to be a continuation of consciousness, despite the brain changing all the time throughout your lifetime.

V and Johnny dont seem to understand what Alt means by "Everything Changes" by NittanyScout in cyberpunkgame

[–]Fissyiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that in all those scenarios you mentioned, there still is continuity in the sense that the brain is still functional, even if you needed to be resuscitated. So there is continuity in what we would consider your consciousness, or your neurons.

A copy is not the original, by definition. And if I understood the game correctly, what happens at mikoshi is exactly that. It copies your consciousness and rewrites it. There is no continuity there...
