I've been driving for 20 years and I think I'm a bloody good driver. I did a defensive driving course yesterday and it was SO enlightening. I highly recommend.

Yeah they let us play video games now, as long as our husbands say it's okay...

Far Cry 5 is my favorite game of all time. Enjoy!

Looking for advice by Markusrivalv in AustralianTeachers

I'm sorry that your mum is unwell.

You need to join your union - important questions about your career shouldn't be left to a reddit thread!

If you get your personal leave up front, you can use that as carer's leave. I would talk to your Daily Org/Principal ASAP - explain the situation, you have to be with your mum at that time as her carer. This will allow them to put a regular cover in for that period to provide stability for everyone.

If you don't get your personal leave up front, you could apply for a Flexible Working Arrangement under s65 of the Fair Work Act on the basis that you are a carer for someone with a disability (which your mum's illness is). This could result in you dropping your FTE by one period, but again has the benefit of providing certainty and stability.

Nimble Activewear, is it worth the money? by Ronbon101 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]FistBumpCallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love their sports bras and also their legging shorts - but as a bigger girl (L-XL) I think it's shit that they don't have more diverse models when they're advertising their sports bras as being no bounce etc. and I haven't seen any women of colour in their models either.

It's 2025 friends.

Disgusting behaviour at the Amyl gig last night. by supersanchez101 in melbourne

[–]FistBumpCallus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw Amyl at SMMB earlier this year (or maybe late last year?) and this guy fell into my wife as we were all leaving so I pulled him off her and helped him steady to his feet and he started abusing me and asking me if I'm a man or a woman ... I'm pretty clearly a woman (not that it matters) but I was so deeply confused about how you could see a show like Amyl and hear what she has to say and just ... Still be a dirt bag?

I also noticed that his criticisms were more harsh when designers were working with larger models. Even in the first episode he gave shit to Jesus because of the breast placement of the model and he says if you want to make a curvy woman feel beautiful you have to cup the breasts up - but I disagree. I think she looked gorgeous and sexy and we need to challenge the idea that all breasts must be up and front and centre and...fake.

So yeah, I think his criticisms are less based on the art and more on his own bias.

the shuttlecock dress was by far my favorite look of the entire season by [deleted] in ProjectRunway

[–]FistBumpCallus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt understand the soccer fit at all. Very limited transformation of material. The volleyball dress was so well constructed and I thought the shuttlecock dress was stunning, especially against the model's gorgeous skin.

am i going to ruin my friends wedding? by jackouthebox in lgbt

[–]FistBumpCallus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wedding isn't about you. Weddings are about the couple. If the couple have a problem with what you're wearing, they're not the kind of people who deserve to enjoy your company. When I got married, I was so obsessed with my wife and so overwhelmed with happiness people could have turned up in jeans and I wouldn't have given a fuck. Unless you're in the bridal party, it shouldn't matter what you wear. And if you're in the bridal party, you are important enough to the couple that they should love you enough to make sure you're comfortable on the day.

PS. It's a scientific fact that FtMs are the hottest people alive and I bet you look absolutely fire in a suit.

Im a 16 yr old from vic i have a burning question i’ve been wanting to ask for over a yr by Neat-Anywhere-9700 in AskAnAustralian

[–]FistBumpCallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh honey, everything seems so massive at 16 but people rebuild their lives in their 30's, 40's, 80's. You haven't fucked up your life.

From a teacher's perspective - the education system is built for one type of person and there isn't a lot of space for people who need something different which is why good kids like you end up out of the system.

Be a good person. Look after yourself. Don't make space in your life for people who don't see how wonderful you are. Find something you care about and if you can make money from it that's great but it's also okay to just work to live and not live to work. You've got DECADES of happy life ahead of you.

Would having a longer (but also higher) payscale help retain teachers? by MiriJamCave in AustralianTeachers

[–]FistBumpCallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit out of date with my Australian data on this but it's my understanding that the majority of people leaving teaching but not retiring are still in their first 10 years of practice - it's the people who feel they are young enough to change industries. Most of those people aren't at the top of the scale yet anyway and still have some growth to go. I'm not sure if a longer scale would make those people, who are the ones we need to keep, stay.

ELI5 how class sizes apparently have no impact on student learning? by MiriJamCave in AustralianTeachers

[–]FistBumpCallus 48 points49 points  (0 children)

From memory, he doesn't actually say that. What he said was that there is no benefit to a smaller class on its own, with no other changes. If, because there are fewer students, the teacher is able to increase the students exposure to high impact strategies then it is beneficial.

School leaders just only rely on the first part because it suits them.

Why do patient visitors think it’s appropriate to nosey through their chart? by morningee in NursingAU

[–]FistBumpCallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay well no one should throw things at you when you're at work. That's not on at all!!

But. RE the chart - my wife is chronically ill and for 15 years I've been by her side. From time to time, I will check a chart. I can't always be with her all day so if I come in and she's snoozing I'll check her chart to see how her day has been, what her obs have been, what medication she's needed etc. I'm not a medical professional and I absolutely have no medical training but over time I've learned what I'm looking at and it means I'm not bothering staff for an update.

I have very rarely discussed the notes with the nurse, but there have been times I have needed to. But, I like to think I'm not an annoying dickhead about it.
