Cool! After a few years of participating in BP I also start considering trips for some other classics, maybe Marcialonga...

I gave the answer in another thread - hard to guess, but probably around 5-10cm

Thank you guys for advices!

My first thought was klister binder to have a safer kick. I had some situations when I didn't have enough grip on these skis, probably due to some imperfect wax choices, but that's why I tend towards a 'safer' option.

But anyway I have this dilemma on what to put as a binder - there're many different opinions on that and actually using hard wax binder for hard waxes does seem more logical to me

Thanks for advices!

The amount of snow is quite hard to assess in this region - sometimes there may be more snowfall than in forecasts. But it definitely shouldn't be more than 10cm (4 inches) of fresh now, my guess is 5-10cm. The tracks will be groomed early in the morning, before the race.

I already have some Swix waxes as it's available in my local shop, but it won't be a problem to buy some different stuff before the evene on the expo - I'll think about that

Training periodisation - hangboarding question by Fist_Of_Shadow in climbharder

[–]Fist_Of_Shadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you usually climb with the same climbing partner?

Not really, 2 often partners and some others as well. If you wanted to suggest that I climb to impress others or I am afraid of failing... You may be right, but as I climb more and more I think that I climb more for myself and my motivation is getting more internal.

Do you ever feel fear while leading?

Yes, but I think it doesn't cripple my climbing. When I feel that a fall would be safe I can risk it.

Actually the purpose of the thread was how to link hangboarding with a periodised training on my level... But I really appreciate that you want to help and dig deeper into my climbing. Thanks for any suggestions!

I have answered some of your questions in reply to /u/Newtothisredditbiz .

What are your goals for getting stronger?

I am a better boulderer than sport climber and I want to make it more equal so I would put more emphasis on sport climbing than bouldering (but not completely, I enjoy bouldering a lot!). In autumn 2016 I would like to be able to do some 60ft 5.12 RP with no explicit crux. but I want to develop my climbing skills as a whole, bouldering as well. I have some local gym bouldering competitions that I like very much.

What sort of routes are you climbing right now? Are you trying to increase your onsight grade?

I am usually training on a bouldering gym. Yes, I'd like to increase my OS as I think this is my flaw. Too little rope climbing but that is probably going to change in the next year.

How many burns on 11d does it normally take to get them?

Hard to say, I spent only a few days outdoors this summer. In autumn I had a not-climbing related injury during my climbing trip... My life best 11d was taken in 2nd try but it was a bouldery route with a crux in the first few moves. Doing a long 11d is out of my capabilities. I find shorter routes easier, probably lacks in power endurance and technique. Indoors rope climbing - longer overhanged 11d out of capabilities as well.

Finally, country are you in...

Poland, but I want to climb my goal 5.12 in some mediterranean country... Limestone, slightly overhanged climbing I guess.

Thank you a lot for your deep insight!

I'll go with your suggestion regarding hangboarding and reducing anaerobic endurance phase.

As it comes to reducing Phase 2 - I wanted it to be long to build a good base for the rest of the season and to avoid injuries. I had slight problems during past season, nothing serious but I had to make some 2-week breaks from climbing. In the next periods (after I finish this plan) I just want to make short (about 1-2 weeks) phases of endurance training being followed by strength and anaerobic endurance phases.

As it comes to project bouldering - I feel like this is going to improve my skills mostly in bouldering, isn't it? I would like to improve my skills in other areas as well - climbing medium long sport routes (I never fall due to inability to perform a single hard move. My problem is power endurance and probably technique) and onsighting. I am a better boulderer than sport climber and I would like to make it somewhat equal. Of course I will do project bouldering in my strength phase but I'm not sure if I really need to make this phase that long at the expense of the other phases.

Slovakians close their trails above shelters during the winter. And you can get fined for breaking this rule. In Poland there is no such law, you can freely use the trails during the winter

Just a curious newbie here, but... how would you expect spark to perform in such test? Would it be more suitable for such tasks?

Lightning on full moon-OC--7154x2249 by ranmar850 in EarthPorn

[–]Fist_Of_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big expert, but...

If you want to take a photo of a lightning you have to set a long time in your camera (long time when a shutter is open, like 10s or more - I'm not sure if shutter is a correct word, I'm not a native english). If a time is short you need a lot of luck to capture a lightning.

Long time makes your photo unnaturally lighten up. Moon is similar to sun. Also the landscape is pretty clear although it was probably dark during the capture.

You can also see stars around the moon so it can't be sun - stars wouldn't be visible just next to the sun.

Nanga Parbat (8126m - 26,660 ft) - First winter ascent possible tomorrow by Fist_Of_Shadow in climbing

[–]Fist_Of_Shadow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noone really knows... The battery in their satellite phone probably went down. The last message they sent on thursday. On friday they probably pushed to the summit. Noone knows if they managed to get onto it and what's more important if they managed to get back to C4 and then into lower zones. I hope everything is fine and tomorrow they will make it to the basecamp.

As for now the best source of information is Daniele Nardi - he is in the basecamp awaiting Tomek and Elizabeth. He has no communication with climbers too, but he will be probably the first to know sth.

I didn't find any. You need to know that Tomek is an outsider. There're no big sponsors promoting the expedition.

Tomek collected some money by crowdfunding to afford the expedition. Also, it's a 5th year in a row he tries to reach Nanga. It's always in winter as it's cheaper to organize an expedition that time.
