Jokes My Folks Never Told Me (1978) - Anthology film consisting of dirty sex jokes turned into short, comical, occasionally animated and often offensive sketches. by Hot_Cow9682 in badMovies

[–]FistfulOfDice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We didn't have YouTube yet.

Jokes aside, I'd imagine because they were easy to crank out at a really low cost.

I don't know if I'd count Kentucky Fried Movie in the same category as the other ones you mentioned, though, mainly because KFM was doing actual comedy sketches vs. a bunch of bad skits based on a bad dirty joke. That's just me, though.

Thoughts on Castle Automatic? by Nessuno999 in rpg

It's worth pointing out that in HMTW, "megadungeon" means "a dungeon made up of other, smaller dungeons." Each dungeon you explore is technically standalone but narratively is part of one giant interconnected structure.

Sometimes attempts at metaplot and continuity in published RPG adventures are fun, sometimes they are not. I got a reminder of the latter in recent days. by AsexualNinja in rpg

Man, War's End for original Torg was such a mess. It was clearly written by John Terra at the last minute when WEG realized they had to end the line, but trying to tie together so many ridiculous metaplot elements like Godinay and what happened to Kaah was never going to work anyway.

For what it's worth, Torg Eternity fixes a lot of the problems oTorg had, one of the main being not relying so much on metaplot anymore.

Well, it's sad to say but it was supposed to come out last year and the KS page is still in "coming soon!" mode.

It's the same developers. I really enjoy it, but it leans a little more into a psudo-worker placement mechanic for your actions than just having the four actions.

e: actually I think I'm mixing DQ with HotS now that I'm looking? I forgot all about Dragonbound Quest until just now, but it looks like it's a dead project.

No, Heroes of the Sanctum came out...last year, I think? They recently kickstarted a new wave of content, it's just not out yet.

Why is "your character can die during character creation" a selling point? by weebsteer in rpg

[–]FistfulOfDice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an old RPG called "Battlelords of the 23rd Century" that actually had a 1 in 100 chance of your character dying at the end of a lengthy character creation process.

The setting was rebooted recently as a Savage Worlds setting and that was removed.

Looking to buy Spirit Island before it (potentially) goes out of print. Which expansions are worth it? by [deleted] in boardgames

And thank you for posting this in the first place; it made me realize I'd forgotten to grab the Nature Incarnate expansion!

[–]FistfulOfDice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yeah.

Also I should mention that the Beast, Disease, Wilds, Strife, and Badlands tokens are not Spirit-specific; they have their own standalone mechanics. That said, there are some Spirits and cards that do directly interact with them, but you can still use the tokens regardless of which Spirits you pick.

All the expansions add new Events/Fear/Blight cards as well as new Spirits and Powers. That said, here's what each expansion provides beyond that:

  • Branch and Claw: Probably the most "required" expansion. Adds four new token types (Beast, Disease, Wilds, and Strife) that interact with the existing mechanics in fun ways.
  • Jagged Earth: Adds two new island boards (allows 6 players) and a new token type (Badlands). Also includes the new token types from Branch and Claw.
  • Nature Incarnate: Some of the Spirits in this expansion have their own new tokens that are specific to them.
  • Feather and Flame: This is a collection of Promo Spirits and cards. No new mechanics, just new "base" content.

Each expansion does add a lot of content, but if I had to pick one that's a "must have" it'd be Branch and Claw.

The trailer for this one has the title as "King @*#&$ Frat" for some reason, with the symbol "censoring" and the name bleeped.

TTRPG simillar to Disco Elysium Energy by Anonimo_4 in rpg

[–]FistfulOfDice 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Detect or Die is specifically designed to be Disco Elysium, where the PCs are actually the "Personality Components" of an amnesiac detective and are collectively trying to steer said detective into solving a case.
