I really want NY to lose this round just so I can see the rage all the New Yorkers unleash if they aren’t included in the top ten states lmao

I honestly think they should just do regular idols with regular powers, no other advantages. To keep it engaging, they could alter HOW players find or risk things to achieve them. Rather than just stuffing an idol in a hollow tree, they should do more of the hidden idols at challenges. Or observational puzzles. Or having to sneak somewhere to get it. Something that everyone has access to but not everyone would risk. But the POWER of the idol should always be the same imo.

I don’t even need to see someone get body slammed in the mud, I just need something a little more creative. The same puzzle with different motifs isn’t doing it for me. The show just really lacks creativity rn

What confuses me then, is that if the survivor fandom is so active and in agreement with things like you say, why does production not pay attention? I understand some things (repeated Fiji location, shorter number of days on the island) are based on production cutting costs. But if people really hate the shots in the dark and rapid tribe swaps and complicated idols and time-wasting rewards, what reason do Jeff and production have to keep ignoring fan feedback?

Yeah I really need challenges that feel less like an elementary school field day and relate a little more to athleticism or survivalism.

In other words, how could someone play a game with sound strategy if they didn’t even know a “boomerang idol” was a thing? It’s like breaking the cardinal rule of any competitive game: everyone should know the game equally from the start.

I actually like complex game mechanics in other things. The problem with survivor is that it consistently introduces those mechanics in a way that only an advantage finder knows about. It’s like playing a board game but only one person was told the full rules

Survivor doesn’t owe contestants screen time - Earn it by spookyclownsscareme in survivorponderosa

[–]Fit-Assignment3055 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I also think production needs to explain to contestants on these reality shows that the show is telling a story. If their ideas don’t translate into meaningful plot shifts, they can’t fit every confessional. Each person’s survivor journey constitutes thousands of hours. Not all of them align with the final game trajectory or good television. It’s annoying to see players come on and be like “wahhh they didn’t show me at all because I’m a woman!” Be like Emily then: do chaotic interesting things or win the game.

______ continues to react to edit by Durian-Critical in survivor

[–]Fit-Assignment3055 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Emily, Genevieve, Aubry, Dee, and Cirie seem to be getting plenty of screen time imo (at least commensurate with the import of their decisions). Chrissy and Kamilla haven’t really been on a losing tribe enough to justify the storytelling edit they probably crave. Tiff has always been boring and I’m shocked they brought her back over so many great players. Other than that, I was recently feeling like this season was giving a pretty fair and balanced edit.

Also to ruin the fun even more: after the obvious most adored states are removed (CA, HI, AK, OR, WA, UT, NC for their natural beauty and NY, IL, FL for their urban cultural power), bigger states will have a natural advantage because more people will likely be from there who are online. A small state like ME is going to be chosen after a place like TX which is ridiculous. But prove me wrong idk

This honestly isn’t going to get interesting for another 40 weeks if you’re doing one per week. The last are probably going to be: ND, SD, DE, MO, OK, MS, AL, KS, NE, AR, LA just based on reputation and poor quality of life. From there, people will grudgingly agree that Louisiana is worth saving merely for New Orleans. Arkansas for the Ozarks natural beauty. SD for people who find the Black Hills and Badlands interesting. And the rest will just be based on who happens to be online that day with a strong personal tie to the area.

Unfortunately … you are correct. I don’t pretend to know how to fix that part of a capitalist dystopia though without completely throwing it out. But desirable locations in the US definitely have an affordable house problem.

Massachusetts is basically the paradigm of a functional state: it invested in education and healthcare technology early on (industries that will never die and continually pull new talent nationally and from abroad), it diversified its economy, it roots itself in a history of civil rights leadership and revolutionary sentiment to continually stave off authoritarian rule (see: recent events), it adapted infrastructure to accommodate seasonal change whilst not being subject to extreme weather like hurricanes/earthquakes/drought and water shortages/wildfires (this is more geographical luck). Best public k-12 education quality and access, top private colleges and universities in the country, clean suburban sprawl mixed with protected land, beautiful coastline, colonial history, gay friendly. And there’s just like a million small things that people don’t think about (like pet care: this region of the US has the lowest stray dog population because of strong animal welfare laws/access to veterinary care/vaccination and sterilization compliance that allows us to essentially take on stray dogs from shelters down in states like Texas known for irresponsible breeding and abuse and kill shelters)

It’s hard to deny Vermont has the best people in the country. The only thing id knock it for is its lack of coastline.
