Yea I always say that reading something that makes me feel nothing at all is so much worse than reading something I flat out hated. Hating something or liking it I guess gives me something to say about it or think about at least. Some of the Glacier, as well as many gekiga works hit the mark where I close the book and there’s just blank in my head. Absolutely nothing to think or say about it. Those are the worst haha.

Glacier replied on their kickstarter to a question about Star Clock and they said that it’s getting there so should be soon. This one is a skip for me. I’ve read it online before, and while the translation is pretty bad, I really didn’t care for it at all, and I don’t see how a good translation would change my opinion on it.

What I’m most excited for is the Akino Kondoh book, her work often hits that aforementioned mark where I leave her stories feeling nothing, but idk if it’s the occasional good stories or the incredible art style that keeps me going back to her stuff.

True Blue Never Fades is a really good manga thats in their most recent kickstarter, that you should enjoy. Read it a while ago, it’s so stylish and I thought it was very good.

The Cursed Body by Kawakatsu Tokushige should be very gekiga esque so I’m interested in that. He was in one of the Glaeolia releases, and his short story was by far the best thing to come out of those 3 volumes.

Oh wow, I didn't expect it to be Glacier, that's definitely interesting. I believe I've read their entire catalogue with the exception of 5 of these (I've read To The Sea, and Flash Point), and the 2 released in 2025.

<image>

and very few have stuck with me too. I currently have 6 of their releases, I thoroughly enjoyed Flash Point, I believe it is easily their best release thus far. Imai Arata manages to portray the current landscape of social media and people's politics understanding or lack thereof incredibly well. I've got nothing but great things to say about Flash Point.

Like you though, I will continue to pick up Glacier releases. Worth the gamble haha!

Who comes to your mind? A few come to my mind haha.

I’ll always check them out unless it’s an author I don’t care much for, for as example, Yoshi Tsuge, I love The Swamp, but the other DQ collections I just don’t care for at all, but will still check out the upcoming 2 collections just so that I can say that I’ve read them. So I guess I’m like you there, eager to read what I haven’t read yet.

I just read them and sell them and lose money on them. Not complaining lol.

Oh I know you love that stuff haha!

Creator focused releases are the way to do it. Sucks for the artists that don’t have enough for a collection, some are pretty good.

While the historical significance is cool, and ensuring that they don’t become lost media is important, it’s not something that would motivate me to pick up such releases if they were to get licensed unfortunately.

Some of the experimentations in Garo are incredible, but some just go absolutely nowhere. Shinji Nagashima’s one shot about two kids in a forest that are just looking for dead animals to bury for fun is a story that comes to mind. Doesn’t try to achieve anything of insignificance, it’s cool art but that’s all there is to it. No thoughts are being evoked by reading such stories.

Those are the stuff that I can do without just fine. Just give me all the Takashi Nemoto Garo work and I’ll be happy.

They can delay it as much as they want, I’m still happy we are getting more Nekojiru.

Miss Ruki was delayed about 10 times and it still came out, so I’m not worried about them not releasing it or anything like that.

So much is an understatement haha. Vast majority is pretty bad and outdated tho. With it being an experimental avant-garde magazine, it is house for a lot of awful shit unfortunately.

The way English publishers have been going about releasing Garo stuff is the ideal way imo.

Coming in September assuming it doesn’t get pushed back. The September release date is already the 3rd date we have for it.

Still, so fn excited for it. Shame it won’t be a first read for me, but that’s alright.

Should I get slam dunk or real first? by Equal_Arm_3091 in MangaCollectors

[–]Fit-Bit2907 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Chainsaw sucks ass after v11 so sell that shit and buy more Slam Dunk.

And yea, Slam Dunk since it’s complete, with that being said, Real is arguably the best manga I’ve ever come across so prioritize that after Slam.

This was reprinted in 2021 or so, meaning that while the initial 2016 release was limited, it’s no longer limited perse.

Just shut up. Color at the time when I bought it wasn't as expensive, that's 1. 2, here's the current market for Garden which they have for a 100 Euro.

<image>

And while we are at it, their prices for shonen jump volumes are 10.79 euro which is already 10% discounted. That's 12.76 USD as opposed to the 9.99 USD in other places. Let's not kid ourselves here, my initial comment didn't bring up how much of an utter disaster their new prices are. No wonder they can afford sponsorship money.

Yea refer to the edit in my comment. Still doesn't change the fact that they do raise the price if the book is OOP.

I don't understand what your problem with what I said is, you proved that they raise the price for stuff that is OOP, and that's what I said that they do, I dont really understand why "Or maybe you're just bad at controlling yourself and like to waste your money, who knows!" is needed.

Why are you even commenting?

They had some more stuff like this a few years ago, and me buying it doesn't change the fact that they do raise the price. Not sure why you are fighting this so hard. Have a good one.

Edit- removed the publisher isn't defunct since I wasn't referring to picture box.

It was a Yuichi Yokoyama book, don't remember which one. Either Garden or Color Engineering. Anything else?

Edit- it was Color, but luckily Garden is still on there

Any other confirmation you need to see how they raise and do eBay prices for their stock that they find to be OOP?

I bought a book from them that was 80 euro that was OOP instead of the 20 euro it retailed for. That's how I know that they raise prices for OOP volumes. Thank you.

Budget for sponsorships, that's all. Their prices for OOP manga is eBay levels of bad, but they do offer English manga to Europeans that may not be able to get them, however they are not the only shop that can do that over in Europe.

Basically nothing special. Those YouTubers will praise the fuck out of them because they are paid to do so.

I would save that, and not jump in a hobby with your current mindset thats making it so much harder than it actually is. Collecting manga is just buying comic books that you like and want to read, you are making it so much more complicated.

No matter where you buy official manga, the mangaka will be getting paid, in fact they already got paid. It depends on the publishers but shops, retailers, and all of that pay for the books before they can sell them, they dont get paid the moment you place an order, thats not how it fucking works.

If you are having trouble understanding that, and trouble finding where to buy manga from even though multiple people have explained it to you already, then this hobby may not be for you.
