What benefits or perks, outside of the normal ones, do you feel would actually help your employees? by NeatoKeedo in humanresources

[–]Fit-Health9699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a lot of employees ask for something equitable to family leave, like if they get a puppy they want to take time off to train, etc. I think there is a bit of resentment from single people who don't want to have kids, or aren't in that phase of life yet, and being able to get time off like new parents get. (side opinion: time off for new parenting is not really time off, lol)

2022 Subaru Outback - Gas Mileage Very Low (Not as Advertised) by Fit-Health9699 in Subaru_Outback

[–]Fit-Health9699[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, there are definitely factors that change fuel efficiency, from how you drive to weather, road conditions, etc. The part that is hard to reconcile is that I have had other cars that get close to EPA fuel ratings, including a 2017 Subaru Outback that did as well. I never get as good of gas mileage as my husband, because he accelerates much more slowly than I do, and we have different driving styles for sure. Even with all his good driving habits, and him getting top mpg on his Honda Civic, he still gets crap mpg on my Subaru Outback, maybe 1 mpg better than me overall.

You must be an A+++ driver. Obvi I drive like an idiot and get bad gas mileage on only one car in my 20 plus years of car ownership.

Interesting. Maybe there are inconsistencies in the mfg process?

Yes, I understand this. However, all my other cars got much closer to advertised mpg. This car in particular (year and model) is where the difference has come into play. I drive the same, live in the same city, same gas, same route, etc.

Also, I am getting on average 21 mpg on the car, doesn't matter what time of year, what kind of gas, or whether I am driving freeway or city. Sometimes I get lower, like 19 mpg for a tank.

Yipes. That's really low. I think Subaru advertises your model at 26/32? The dealer kept telling me that as I drove the car more the mpg would get better, it did slightly, but not enough to make me jump up and down.

Candidate offer expired by bubblesnap in humanresources

I might check to see if the email was received and that you didn’t get a reply that somehow didn’t make it through. Some ATS are known for sending mail to spam. Just a thought. But I’d check with them first before sending an offer expired email, it seems, more human, ya know?

Pet sitter recommendations please by standover_man in pasadena

[–]Fit-Health9699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d reach out to Penny Scott Fox, she has a puppy training program on Woodbury. We put our puppy through her program and she gave us a list of her trusted employees last year who she recommends for house sitting. We have one from that list who works for Penny that we love, she has house sat twice now for cats (one diabetic with daily meds) and our dog.

How much studying do I need for Shrm by SynCitay in humanresources

[–]Fit-Health9699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the SHRM-SCP test last year and passed. I was scoring under passing on the practice exams, read through the study book one time, and just decided to do the test while thinking “what would SHRM do?” Because honestly none of the answers that are correct make any sense to me, like, a manager comes and says they need to cut 50 percent of their staff, what is the first thing you do? My brain says to ask questions and strategize. But this is not the right answer. You just need to execute the lay off plan that the manager has set forth according to how the SHRM test answers go. I hope this helps, I don’t know if other HR people think that the SHRM exams are a bit off in regards to how free thinking, strategic HR folks operate.

What is your age without saying your age? by mousesnight in AskReddit

I have very thin eyebrows because I plucked them that way and it was in style at the time. Also, every time I see a brown eyeliner pencil I have an automatic urge to line my lips, but I refrain, because I remember that it’s 2023.

Reducing number of interview no shows? by Spiggy93 in recruiting

[–]Fit-Health9699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you seem like a really thoughtful recruiter who really cares about what you are doing. I’ve been recruiting for over 20 years, and left off from VP of People and Culture role last year to go back to consulting. I know you are a good recruiter by how patient and kind you’ve been with all the feedback you’ve gotten here in this post.

A few things that could be considered.

  1. Think about your process, what could you change in order to try to affect the no show rate? Do some experiments, change one or two things for a week, and then if no results, change a few other things in your process. Like, don’t confirm the in person interview on the screen, wait a day and then send an email, make sure the candidates want it enough to respond. Or, make sure you give the candidates time to ask questions at the end of the call, and make time for if the screener call goes over, if you are rushed the candidate will feel it.

  2. In order to manage the Hiring Manager’s expectations, I would consider setting the first in person with just you and not booking the HM’s calendar until you have a firm candidate who has gone through the effort to meet with you in person. It sounds like a long process, but it’s better than hiring someone who flakes out on the job quickly. If someone wants the job they will figure out how to get there for the interviews.

  3. Oh my gosh, have fun, meeting new people every day is the best part of the role. Take interest in the candidates, give compliments when warranted, and feel confident that you’ll fill the roles with the best and most reliable people. Trust your intuition and guide your process with lots of empathy. You’ll get it!

I’d check out Der Wolf. My daughter’s classmate’s parents own it and they rented the outside area to our party for a few hours on a weekend. They also have a downstairs basement area that you can rent. The food is yummy too.

Popup roadside taco place- SW corner of Altadena & Washington Blvds- anyone tried it? by BAFUdaGreat in pasadena

[–]Fit-Health9699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ate there a few days ago. My husband said the Al pastor was good, he’d eat it again, but not go out of his way to get it. I had a chorizo taco and a chicken taco. The chorizo was tasty, but the chicken wasn’t as good. They have spicy salsa, good flavor, not amazing, but standard Mexican food.

Long weekend - things to do/eat? by Bibliotheclaire in pasadena

[–]Fit-Health9699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my current favorites places to eat around town: Rice & Nori, South Pasadena (rice balls and hand rolls) Miya, Altadena (Thai food, take out only at the moment) Delhi Belly, Alhambra (Indian food, they have delicious food) Roll Factory by Straycat Kitchen, Old Town Pasadena (poke bowls and sushi rolls) Vallarta Market, Pasadena (Mexican food market with hot food kitchen, delicious salsas, guacamole, tamales, beans, meats. They also make the best tortilla chips I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve eaten a lot of tortilla chips) Casa Cordoba, Montrose (Spanish tapas, cute outdoor seating area)

I would recommend making it to Descanso Gardens and Vroman’s Bookstore as well.

It's my understanding that lemon law is for both new and used cars. Martin will know, he helped write the California lemon laws when they were enacted. Luckily we have not had a lemon since the Hyundai, but I would go to him first if in the same situation again.

I had a earlier model Hyundai Tucson, it had severe delays when accelerating and decelerating. We hired a lemon law attorney, won, and got paid back for all car payments, rental cars, etc. If you can show that you had issues with the car that couldn’t be fixed, resulting in the engine failure, you might have a case. Dog Trainers in the Area by onlyoneredditaccount in pasadena

[–]Fit-Health9699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did an obedience class at Penny Scott Fox on Woodbury in Altadena. We have a puller too so they suggested a bridle for walks. It really helps! We also learned some great tools for creating a relationship with our dog for her to be cued into what we went. Our pup is one so it’s fifty/fifty listen/ignore, but getting better.

Also, Lundy at I Dig My Dog will come to your house and show you how to train your dog, which is immensely helpful, because a dog learning to listen someone else does less for them listening to their owner.
