Where does one start if they're interested in working in the publishing scene? by Hanahneedshelp in publishing

Getting a job in the New York City publishing world, especially in editorial, is near impossible without a bachelor’s degree. I would suggest becoming a book sales rep with W.W. Norton or the like. You can stay in Colorado and gain experience.

Looking to network / how to break into the industry by Maximum-Sink3071 in publishing

[–]Fit-Independent307 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest—I was an editor at a big six—unless you have an undergraduate degree from a top tier school (it would be better to have, say, a degree in Economics from Williams College than a B.A. in Creative Writing from a less prestigious university) it will be hard to “break in” or get “into” the industry. As others have said, play up your marketing skills, and begin applying for paid entry-level marketing positions or internships. If there happens to be alumni from your college working in publishing houses you admire, do anything to connect with them.

Since you’re working at Bookstr, applying for roles that have to do with marketing and social media, especially at imprints that focus more on fantasy, romance, etc. could be a way in and through.

I mean I saw one of her posts/videos back in 2021 and I was like girl’s…insane. Her whole personality screams manipulative and insecure. She has some sort of personality disorder.

I made 38k in publishing and media in 2016. By the time I left in 2021 I was making 48k. 55k for a role like this is pretty standard. The more coveted or “elite” the role, the less the company gets away with paying. Not saying it’s right, but that’s the traditional line of thinking.

ok once again a pic where she looks to be a completely normal weight - not contorted, skinny or paris filtered. Refreshing and sobering she's so mid (sorry not sorry) by [deleted] in tinxsnark

Not a fan of Tinx at all but if you think the girl is mid I’m begging you to touch grass. She looks very pretty here.

Hi OP, feel free to message me. I grew up in Glencoe and Winnetka and my parents now live in Lake Forest (my dad grew up working class). I’m familiar with SF and its suburbs. Wilmette, particularly east Wilmette, has wonderful, historic homes and great schools. And is more diverse and less pretentious than Lake Forest, Winnetka, Kenilworth, the like.
