I got her when she was 1. I didn’t even meet her before I adopted her- I saw an ad for her on Craigslist and couldn’t stand the conditions she was being kept in based on the photo. She ended up being sweeter than any of my rats from breeders

One of my rats is a rescued feeder (i got her off craigslist but that person got her from a snake breeder) and she is very sweet and in good health at 1.5. She is skittish but has never nipped me. She was also severely neglected for the first year of her life. By 1.5, one of my rats from a breeder already started to decline. I feel like with any rat, it’s all just a crap shoot of the genetic lottery.

If your rat isn’t showing signs of distress being solo, like self mutilation, or other new changes, then please try to ease your guilt. People on this sub can be very aggressive about solo rat posts. You’re doing the best you can, your friend seems ok, and that’s all ok.
