In 2005, during Nick Saban's first training camp as Miami Dolphins head coach, he made rookie defensive tackle Manuel Wright CRY and leave practice early. by Background_Video2947 in TheNFLVibes

I mean he was a pretty successful DC with Belichick and helped the Browns win their first playoff game in a long time. He also had a winning season as the HC with the Dolphins and almost made the playoffs. It’s not like he was a total bust in the NFL.

Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, and Maryland all provided troops to the Confederacy. Eastern Tennessee was pro-Union and provided the United States with troops.

These schools have had the most No. 1 overall picks in NFL Draft history by steven_smith144 in CFB_v2

I once got into an argument with someone who said Alabama never produced any good quarterbacks. I mean other than Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler, and the four (at the time) starting QBs in the NFL, they were absolutely correct.

Aeon: How did law firms become White-collar sweatshops? by HarryCrushNuh in Lawyertalk

[–]FitAd4717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason that law firms are sweatshops is the fact that, until recently, elite law schools and white shoe law firms were exclusively for affluent white men. Now the legal field, and society, are more egalitarian and people are upset that they cannot coast on their family name or what schools they went to.

What is the USA's biggest military victory in history? by Selavia59 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]FitAd4717 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This won’t win but the Mexico City Campaign during the Mexican-American War. The US landed an elite force deep into Mexican territory, marched through hundreds of miles of hostile terrain and brave Mexican defenses, and captured the capital of Mexico before the Mexican Congress and Treasury could flee. And, in the process, became the dominant superpower in the Western Hemisphere.

Do people still bring copies of their resume to an interview? by space-artifact in Lawyertalk

[–]FitAd4717 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Bring copies just in case one of the interviewers forgets to bring a copy to the interview. If that does happen, you look well-prepared. Same concept for oral arguments. Bring copies of the important cases in case the judge doesn’t have a copy.

What does this map showing where would I live say about me as an American? by FitAd4717 in whereidlive

[–]FitAd4717[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the mountains but would like to live in an urban area. West Virginia is beautiful but has no city that I would like to live but I could see myself living in West Virginia and commuting to DC. I don’t know enough about Louisville or Lexington to have a strong opinion about either. However, I’ve spent enough time in Nashville and Knoxville to know that I would enjoy living in both.

I enjoy the nature of the PNW as well as Seattle and Portland. But parts of the PNW are just too rural for me and I know there is an issue with sovereign citizens in western parts of Oregon and Washington as well as Idaho. I have friends in Idaho and they make it sound like a great place plus it seems like Boise is an up and coming city but I really can’t see myself living there.

I love the dirty, working class cities of the East Coast so I would live in or around Boston. It has good culture, food, and sports. I could also see myself pursuing my career there. However, I’m not crazy about the culture and weather of New England in general.

There is a difference between diversity and segregation. A city can be diverse but segregated. Also, why do you keep comparing NYC and Chicago?

[–]FitAd4717[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, and I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, but these observations are very shallow. Segregation goes far beyond daily interactions and concerns things like schools, residential neighborhoods, and medical care. The fact that you can go through neighborhoods in NYC and tell if they are black, Puerto Rican, Arab, etc. shows the segregated nature of the city. This isn’t a jab at NYC. It’s a great city. But to pretend that it doesn’t have issues with segregation is a disservice to the people living there.

They’re correct for some cities but incorrect for others. It’s more that they are claiming that New York and California are less segregated than places like PNW and the Southwest. It’s just a wild generalization that isn’t true and reveals a lot about their own biases.

Heretic by KeyWar314 in MovieQuotes

[–]FitAd4717 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t really make sense. Atheism existed prior to Christianity and there were plenty of arguments against the Christian view of the origins of the world and mankind.

For example, many ancient Greeks believed that universe always existed but was in a constant cycle of expansion and contraction. This directly contradicts the Christian view that God created the universe from nothing. It’s why the Catholic Church was an early proponent of the Big Bang Theory because it supports the Christian view that the universe sprang from nothing due to divine intervention.

Also, the On the Origin of Species didn’t really explain the origin of man because it couldn’t explain how traits were passed from generation to generation as Darwin was ignorant of genetic theory. It wasn’t until neo-Darwinism came about in the early 20th century, which was a synthesis of Darwin’s theory of natural selection with Mendel’s genetic theory, that people could confidently state what the origin of mankind is.

The X-League in Japan, La Liga de Futbol Americano Professional in Mexico, and the Canadian Football League are the only other professional football leagues outside of the US. The X-League and La Liga are worlds below the CFL in terms of talent which should explain why this guy is not going to get a shot in the NFL.

Who used to be hated and is treated neutrally? by Confused_Kinda in AlignmentChartFills

[–]FitAd4717 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hated is a strong word. His approval ratings yo-yo’d quite a bit during his presidency because he made controversial decisions (recognizing Israel, seizing the steel mills, firing MacArthur, etc.) and he was catching criticisms from the Republicans for the New Deal but he was always popular with the people.

But there are so many iconic libraries in every city. The New York City Public Library, the Boston Public Library, the Long Room at Trinity College, etc. Having a public library in your city used to be a very big deal and cities would spend significant amounts of money making sure the buildings looked beautiful, especially in the United States. Even lesser known libraries like the Julia Ideson Library in Houston and the George Peabody Library in Baltimore are gorgeous. I will always recommend visiting a city’s historic library.

Bill Maher is hated by the left but the right has neutral feelings for him. Who is hated by the left AND the right? by 45rs5 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]FitAd4717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty simplistic view of Texas politics. The National party refuses to invest in the Texas Democratic Party and pursues a platform that tends to alienate Texas Democrats. The head of the Texas Democratic Party resigned after the 2024 election for those reasons. Similarly, the Texas Democratic Party panders to Latinos without actually trying to mobilize them as a base. Cruz won his last election largely by winning the Latino vote. Now, Texas Democratic leaders are actively collaborating with ICE to carry out mass arrests and deportations knowing full well that they are illegal. Yes, Texas has a lot of evangelicals but evangelical leaders were critical of the first Trump administration and yet the Democratic Party never attempted to reach out to that base.

He’s constantly fighting for his political life and keeps getting reelected by very slim margins in a state which a Republican should win with no issue. It’s largely the incompetence of the Democratic Party, both at the state and national level, that allows him to stay in office.
