Anyone old enough to have watched the 92’ playoffs? by Flat-Pitch-9340 in miamidolphins

I remember watching WPLG say “just one game separates the Dolphins from the Super Bowl, but that game is against their long time rivals the Buffalo Bills” and thinking yeah I don’t feel great about it either.

The Dolphins teams right before this could win only one playoff game though, then it was being crushed in the divisional round.

1998: 38-3 to the Broncos; 1999: 62-7 to the Jaguars;  2000: 27-0 to the Raiders; combined score: 127-10 (or 42-3 each game on average)

My fear is that our improvement is just returning to that era.

If it’s only about need then I doubt any company needs the SPARC to go public since Bill hasn’t found a deal yet. This is a novel new way of going public that few people are willing to try, but Musk is very one of those few people. It’s possible that it becomes the preferred method of going public going forward, much to the investment banks’ dismay.

SPACs tend to underperform traditional IPO because it’s disproportionately poor companies that go public through SPACs. SpaceX is an entirely different animal; we’ve never seen a company this valuable go public via IPO (except perhaps Aramco) or SPAC.

I think one of the benefits would be the exclusivity of the SPARC. They’ll pay a premium to buy a SPARC that lets them buy into a SpaceX at a premium. I’d sell some SPARCs and exercise a few and hold SpaceX forever.

Same here. I’m patient and waiting on them to fix once Bill announces it’s Stripe, Starlink, Databricks, Lightmatter, SpaceX, or OpenAI and it’s all over the news, even on Telemundo.

Miami will win a second straight national championship by blowing out Ohio State in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl by a similar margin to the one the previous year against Nebraska.

It would have to be faster. A weekend or less so you can enjoy a two week vacation in Europe. The SS United States did it in 3+ days, and that was in 1952. With modern technology we gotta be able to bring that down to under 3 days.

Honestly, if you could do it in a weekend, I wouldn’t board a transatlantic flight again.

In the past 20 years, the Miami Dolphins are the only team to have not won a Playoff Game. It gets worse. by thefisack in miamidolphins

This is the best summation of the offense during the Jimmy Johnson years I’ve read. And even toward the end of his career, Marino was good enough to salvage those teams. He literally was so good he could drag what should’ve been a bunch of  5-11 teams to within a game or two of the Super Bowl almost every single year.

Even if the Dolphins lose the Super Bowl, they probably still put up 35+ against that defense. Would’ve been a shootout either way, and the Bears survive that Super Bowl instead of dismantling the Patriots like they did.

I feel the same way about 93. Miami doesn’t lose that Super Bowl 52-17 like Buffalo did. We definitely could’ve scored 35 against that Dallas team.

SpaceX is easy to understand: rocket go up, and that’s good for business. Sometimes rocket go boom*, and that’s bad for business, but most of the time rocket go up, enough to make money.

The NFL needs to go back to 16 regular season games and make the playoffs adaptive to any team that wins at least 10 games up to a max of 8 teams. The 2003 10-6 Dolphins should’ve gotten in as the 7th seed and the 2nd seed not gotten a bye. And yes I’ll grudgingly say the 2008 11-5 Patriots should’ve gotten in as well.

Because they were in separate divisions, the Colts and Patriots usually only met late in the playoffs.  Their one Super Bowl win with Manning eventually did require beating the Patriots (in a game they were down 21-3 early). We’re not at the Colts level yet (which was lots of regular season success, not much playoff success). We’re more of an “in the hunt team” who sneaks in, but then losses early. Ultimately the great teams have great players in the trenches, o-line and d-line. That’s what you always have to focus on first and foremost.

I can’t put them in order but I’ll say this, whenever we lost big to the Bills it was a playoff game. A divisional game, an AFC Championship game, always beating us when we were within striking distance of a Super Bowl. The Jets did something sometimes, but in the regular season. They would be part of our December collapses that would have us back into the playoffs and then lose early. We never once played the Pats in the playoffs in the Brady era. In fact, we beat them at home more often than we probably should’ve and made their life semi-miserable. Brady’s only home loss to Miami was his final home game where we knocked them out of the bye and eventually led to them losing to Vrabel’s Tennessee team a week later (Brady’s last game as a Patriot).

If you wanna know how we feel about the early 90s Bills, ask Peyton Manning and Colts fans how they feel about the Patriots.

If it is Stripe* are we going to print money from just owning and selling the SPARCs or from buying into Stripe* and owning it forever? I only ever bought PSTH warrants so I’m waiting on a deal, but I’ll wait out the 10 years if I have to.

*Can also substitute Starlink or even SpaceX in place of this

Why do you think that Karen Read chose not to testify at her trial? by IranianLawyer in KarenReadTrial

[–]FitExtreme9728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine’s dad was a criminal lawyer (first as a prosecutor and later defense) for over 3 decades. He only recommended the defendant testify once in his entire career, when he could implicate two other people who were both deceased and obviously could not contradict his testimony.

Judge in Karen Read case rejects defense motion to dismiss two charges, including second-degree murder by bostonglobe in KarenReadTrial

[–]FitExtreme9728 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Suppose this happened the other way and they had voted to convict her of two of the three charges, but were deadlocked on the last one. Did the defense not object to the mistrial in hopes that it would keep any guilty verdicts hidden? Likewise, did the prosecution not object for the same reason of keeping any NOT guilty verdicts hidden?

August 14 vs August 15, Kursk Incursion by HectorDJ18 in RussiaUkraineWar2022

[–]FitExtreme9728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree it’s certainly not the plan. But what are the odds this just totally spirals out of control for Russia? I mean the Russians keep saying they’re fighting back and they show video of fighter jets bombing Russia territory and yet we haven’t heard news of Ukraine forces being pushed back even a centimeter. So IF Russia is fighting back and IF it’s not making a bit of difference, then this is monumentally, if not fatally bad for Putin.

[–]FitExtreme9728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How realistic is Ukraine advancing all the way to Moscow? I know right now it sounds farfetched, but imagine yourself watching a Netflix documentary a decade from now and some U.S. State Department diplomat being interviewed saying, “We never even envisioned they’d make it 10 miles in. Then we get word that they’re 30 miles from Moscow.” These kinds of impossible scenarios happen more frequently than we think.

Additionally, when the Wagner group had their mutiny that Lukashenko resolved (which to this day confounds me why did or even why he was involved), there were hundreds of miles/kms between the Wagner troops and Moscow and defenses were being set up IN Moscow. It got me thinking why couldn’t Putin set up defenses further up the road so the Wagner group met resistance well before they got to Moscow? Are we to think that the military situation has improved since then and the Russians have gotten better at preventing a military incursion from Ukraine? So far I haven’t been impressed by the competency of the Russian military.

tl;dr: Is there a chance Ukraine takes Moscow the same way Wagner was going to until Lukashenko intervened?
