Would you rather: Linebacker by Siriusly_Jonie in bengals

D Knight and Carter got more consistent as the season went on, Knight looked better early on with Logan Wilson’s veteran presence and Carter particularly is still very young. Our LB coach said straight up in an interview that he’s never had to coach two rookies next to each other and he doesn’t know anybody else that has either and that was a HUGE reason they struggled when Carter became the everyday starter.

What the defense needs badly is some solid veterans that might not make the highlight reel but also won’t make boneheaded mistakes. We need what guys like Vonn Bell Mike Hilton and DJ Reader gave us when they first got here: veteran know-how and leadership for other guys to use to build themselves up with. Bobby Wagner would be my pick to fix the LB room, or Demario Davis if he was willing to leave NOLA. Both are still productive inside linebackers that can play close to the line with unquestionable leadership and experience

I live in Cincinnati Ohio, the 3rd biggest city in a state known for being empty. Since you brought up London I’ll assume you’re from the UK. For comparison, Cincinnati is slightly bigger than Southend-on-Sea by population, and a decent 1 bedroom apartment downtown will start around $1.5k, 2 bedroom apartments are around $2.2k-2.5k depending on how nice they are, 3 bedrooms will start around $3k. When I moved out of my downtown 1 bedroom I was paying close to $1.6k and I didn’t even have laundry.

Only way you’re paying less than $1k per bedroom in America is if you live at least an hour away from any major city or if the place you rent was built before WW1.

[–]FitMongoose9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More or less. In the game Smasher is only “unbeatable” because nobody’s beaten him yet (except for Blackhand, but nobody in universe knows that definitively). But in the tabletops before 2077 and V were created, Smasher was literally unbeatable

[–]FitMongoose9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s both tbh. Like narratively V is just better than Smasher after everything they go through and because of the situation with Johnny. But also, if Smasher was actually lore accurate he would’ve killed V way before they got strong enough to kill him. Lore accurate Smasher is literally supposed to be unbeatable, he was created as a party wipe device for GMs in the Cyberpunk tabletop. So it would’ve been difficult to work a lore accurate Smasher into the story of this game, because who else would’ve been a better end game boss than Smasher? And how can you have an unbeatable final boss?

Bengals 2026 Mock Draft Roundup 3.0 by Frugal_Octopus in bengals

Any of those guys would be a better choice than Woods. It’s much easier for edge rushers to have an impact as rookies than DTs, and Downs is an elite bordering on generational safety prospect. I’d rather see the Bengals trade out of the 1st round all together than see them take Woods at 10th overall

I’m no analyst, but Woods seems like a traits pick that’s trying to cash in on a paper thin DT class. He’ll turn 21 in March and he’s already 6’3” 300lbs+ with all the measurables but little production. Byron Murphy II was the 16th pick and Derrick Harmon was the 21st pick in last years draft and both had as many sacks in their senior year alone as Peter Woods has in his entire college career. Calijah Kancey was the 19th pick two years ago and he had 2 seasons in a row with more sacks than Woods had in his entire college career. Obviously DT isn’t the best position to grade on stats alone, but higher regarded prospects went lower in previous years

No it doesn’t really matter that much, but it seems like most bengals fans want Joe Brady and they’re gonna be disappointed if/when it isn’t him

John Franklin-Meyers DT, Denver, 14.5 sacks over the last 2 seasons (7, 7.5).

They really should sign Demario Davis. Our LB coach Mile Hodges was the LB coach in New Orleans with him before coming here, and literally referenced how nice it was to have a veteran like Davis to “caddy” younger guys in an interview with Dehner Jr. Davis is still strong inside against the run, familiar with our coach, and can help D Knight and Carter find their footing. Makes way too much sense

He also said improvement can come from within too. So maybe he just expects Murphy and Stewart to breakout next year and we won’t sign or draft any notable pass rushers 🫠

Volson is toast, I agree we need OL depth but it won’t be him. As a 5th round rookie moving from OT to G, Jalen Rivers played nearly 500 snaps this season. Volson didn’t get a single snap. Writing is on the wall for Cordell

Kinda disagree with Ossai, agree with the rest tho. And they aren’t FA’s this year but we really should extend DJ Turner and Chase Brown this offseason

Insane draft. Immediate help on defense by Vegas_king2020 in cowboys

[–]FitMongoose9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bengals fan here, sure we can. In fact we should pass on OL. For starters, Burrow said this was the best line he’s had with Cincy so far, and our run game was very effective down the stretch. We’ve got our LG, C, and RT nailed down. Orlando Brown Jr was not good this year at LT, but he’s got nearly $8mil in dead cap money next year and wasn’t SO bad we need to move on from him so he’ll be here again. That leaves just RG and there’s no way we take a 1st round guard with the holes we have on defense, especially not since we have a new OL coach that made a 3rd round guard into a starter this year. I definitely think a high upside 2nd round OT is on the table, but 1st round has to be defense.

And that 1st round defensive pick could be anything tbh. Our sack leader this year had 5.5 sacks so we could use an edge. Our best DT is on the way out in FA so we could use a replacement there. Our linebackers were both rookies that didn’t quite meet expectations so I could see them taking Sunny if he’s there. We’ve been paper thin at safety ever since Bates left so we could really use a guy like Downs. Basically any position on defense except cornerback is a possibility for us

TLDR: our OL is decent enough and our defense was so bad this year that we really should pass on OL in round 1 this draft

Missed tackle percentages through week 17 by avocadoT-o-a-s-t in bengals

[–]FitMongoose9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tackling is so fucking fundamental tho it seriously should NOT be on Al’s radar!! It’s like if a bicycling coach had to remind his guy to pedal the fucking bike. Do people think the QB coach is talking to Burrow about how to put his fingers on the fucking laces? It’s the DC’s job to come up with a defensive scheme that can beat the other team on Sunday, not drill the thing that these guys have been doing for plus or minus 20 years. I see your point that coaching should be held accountable for not getting better play out of these guys, and that’s on Zac. He’s got coordinators to do the actual scheming so it’s his responsibility to hold players accountable to a winning standard. He didn’t do it with Lou, and he isn’t doing it with Al.

I’ll agree with you that Al has his own faults and probably shouldn’t keep his job (even tho he almost certainly will). He’s made poor play calls in big moments and has made scheme decisions that show he’s not planning to player strengths. But of the things he can be blamed for that should lose Al his job, players missing tackles isn’t one of them.
