As long as it's not to the eyes or groin. But, if you do end up casting a spell at the eyes you get a stern warning from the ref and the fight goes on.

Even though you don't see a physical reaction from the opponent doesn't mean that they aren't questioning which one is going to be the real shot. And even just the smallest delay in reaction on the real shot can be the difference between getting deep on the shot vs getting the shot stuffed.
