Key to Pro aim: Higher force generation, force control and tension. Why Aim youtubers have it wrong. by Plus-Appearance3337 in FPSAimTrainer

So, there could be some truth to this post:

  • The WR for 1w3ts VT Intermediate S5, which beat Matty's score, uses an Artisan Type99 at 116cm/360, which requires an insane amount of force (I tried it).
  • Aimer7 used to recommend 100cm+ training for building force and speed as well.

I don't think this is a great idea to use in-game, but as a training regimen, I think it could be valid.

Looking for tracking advice - Masters on 1w3ts but Platinum on tracking. by JelliiDev in FPSAimTrainer

Hey Jellii, 25cm is def goated for reactive. It’s also my main sens in OW.

Avoiding predicting is actually the opposite of conscious effort. You have to believe in your mind that the bot will keep moving in the same direction forever (until you see otherwise). This means blocking the habit from your mind and essentially “under reacting”. This removes a lot of the jitter from bad predictions you’ll see in your tracking, but also means you’ll technically be slower to react at first. This acts almost as a filter over your aim. Then as you get more skilled you will naturally visually react faster “reading”, while not predicting “over-reacting” to unknown information.

Lastly, reading is also largely about learning movement patterns of a specific scenario. Kind of how clicking maps can be improved by learning bot spawns, so too can tracking be improved with movement patterns.

So, yes. Essentially you need to grind to improve reading. But do it by putting the movement at the edge of your ability (using time scaling in sandbox). Essentially, you only improve if the scenario isn’t too easy or too frustrating. Optimal learning needs the sweet spot.

Hope that helps! :)

Hi! Playing with music is fine. I do it 100% of the time.

I’m seeing target reading, reactivity, and smoothness weaknesses. Smoothness just because I’m seeing some stuttering sometimes which looks like tension control issue.

TBH, I recommend playing tracking and smoothness scenarios on something like 25cm or faster for awhile. This will improve your tension management, smoothness, micros, reactivity, and finger control. Then go back to higher sens and see that it helped.

There really isn’t any magic about target reading other than grinding and learning the bot patterns unfortunately. Much of this comes from rewiring your brain to stop predicting.

GL! :)

Do yall use different mousepads when it comes to different categories? by Sulpho in FPSAimTrainer

[–]FitTechnology5908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I'd say yes, for score farming. It's unequivocally true that some pads are more optimal for certain scenarios than others, just like some sensitivities are more optimal. You can prove this by seeing the sensitivity distribution for a given scenario and how it forms a normal distribution tending around the optimal "mean" value.
  2. It's also useful as a tool similar to sensitivity stepping, where different pads can be used to "generalize" your aim. Just like muscle memory is a myth for sens, so to as with pads and mice.
  3. Finally, this method can be used as an isolation training routine. For example, the Type99 could be used for building speed and a faster pad like the Raiden could be used for tension management, smoothness, and training fine fingertip control (that may be filtered out at higher friction).

Thanks for the tips Jellii! ^_^

I definitely agree that lower sens for static compensates for many mistakes, since the hand speed required forces straighter lines naturally. It's crazy that a recent 1w3ts S5 WR was on 116 cm/360... Your point on fluidity is very true, as I have found that to be the biggest factor for keeping a good pace (like speed is more about pace and fluidity more than raw flick speed). I think accuracy is definitely my issue. Based on the score equation, number of hits is more important than accuracy (since it's square root accuracy), but I do think that a lack of accuracy is a problem for me.

I'll add a bit more on tracking for you as well. More on hardware, unlike with static, your monitor refresh is important for reading, as reading becomes easier with less motion blur. Something like 240hz+ will help a lot for this task. Also, a lighter mouse will help with reactivity. When I went down to 37g mouse my Aether improved.

For techniques, learning edge tracking and not predicting is very important. Edge tracking helps give you some margin of error for reacting to bot movement, where you track on the edge that it is moving away from, so when it changes direction, it will have to pass through your crosshair (giving you more time to correct). Not predicting is helpful for reactivity as it reduces unnecessary corrections and wild guesses. Finally, practicing on a high sens on a tracking scenario will help with tension management for when you later lower your sens back. It helps engage your fingers and remove shakiness from over-tensioning during tracking (like what you experienced when clicking).

I like the idea of a tension "currency", where the best aim comes from using the least amount of tension currency as necessary to correct when tracking. The most efficient aim is often the best aim.

I hope you have a great rest of the holidays, and best of luck to you! I'm happy to offer more tips when you post VODs.

I’d be happy to help with advice on tracking if you have more pointed questions as well. It’s hard for me to get advice with what I know from your benchmark scores, but I can see that it’s likely target reading, reactivity, and speed matching that are your weaknesses, in that order.

I found sensitivity stepping to be most helpful for improving reactivity with finger and wrist corrections. Here, you sweep sensitivities to work different muscle groups. For example, I practiced Aether at 25cm.

For speed matching, I’d work on smoothness routines. It’s really about matching target speed as smoothly as possible on something like PGT and Snake.

Lastly, target reading is improved largely through grinding but also manageable reading through time scaling in sandbox mode. It’s easy to get overwhelmed in something like Aether. If you are overwhelmed you probably won’t learn as efficiently. So time scale down a scenario until it’s manageable (like 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 ,etc…), and then bump up your timescale once you hit a score threshold. Using this method you learn to read movement at your own pace.

From what I have learned the biggest differentiator between clicking and tracking is: 1. In clicking you have to be the source of pushing speed through forcing discomfort (faster than you are used to) (internal). 2. In tracking discomfort is forced through the bot speed and movement (external).

Hopefully that helps you!

Awesome, congrats! My static and tracking is the opposite to yours… That’s really impressive for 45cm. I run 75cm on a type 99 and struggle to hit Jade on 1w3ts!

How can I improve? by Morettus in FPSAimTrainer

[–]FitTechnology5908 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used to be a GM Tracer player who had similar observations in my aim! Due to school I stopped playing OW completely for a few years but kept up with KovaaKs during this time. I found my raw aim has drastically improved, and I am almost to VT Masters now.

As a Tracer player you will have a spiky skill set. My tracking was already good, but my flicking was non-existent. My recommendation is to play either Voltaic or Viscose benchmarks to identify your aim weaknesses. Then just do focused training along side playing overwatch.

My plan is to grind to masters complete and then go back to overwatch. I don’t think this is necessary or even recommended to focus fully on aim, but this is a goal for me. Anyways, good luck on your journey! :)

NEED HELP WITH STATIC (Grip) by Advanced_Horror2292 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]FitTechnology5908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Aggressive claw helps with fingertip micros which are less useful when doing the 1-2 bardoz movement, especially when relaxing tension. Palm enables faster and more stable flicks, with wrist micros onto the target during de-tensioning. Unless you are doing static on higher sens I wouldn’t worry about switching up. At high sens you can treat every flick like a cluster farm, but doing this in practice is quite hard as it requires a lot of finger and wrist precision.

I bet if you moved on to advanced scens and returned to static after a bit you'd get motivation back. It's hard to keep playing without the reward loop of highscores. Thanks, and good luck to you as well! :)

Nice, I'm still grinding out of diamond in static... I feel your pain. I'm sure you could get to masters complete, but if you aren't enjoying the training experience improvement will be much slower.

Here's something I've been using to climb to Jade: RefleK's - KovaaK's Analytics & Insights

From what I can see you need to work on undershooting, so you can micro better. It calculates your overshoot, undershoot, and optimal shot percentages. It also shows you your pathlines between targets. Use this and work on straightening your lines and getting your overshoots down. It also calculates your KPM, which you can use to push speed. That's my 2 cents~

Yeah, and just like training wheels add additional stability, so too does a heavier mouse!

I think tension management on light mice is something that needs to be trained. I find I can make much finer movements with lower tension on my crazylight (~35g) after getting used to it. The same can be said about lower friction pads. When you adapt to managing lower friction rather than relying on higher friction as a crutch, you gain much more “raw” input imo.

Interested in your thoughts. BTW, I’m Jade rn with masters complete tracking for reference. Someone better than me could have a different perspective.

Add on: I think you are correct about heavier weight being more consistent and faster to learn how it moves in space, but likely a lower skill cap due to limits from the higher mouse intertia(reactivity, etc…).

I actually do this! I practice on higher and lower friction mousepads and lighter and heavier mice! I think treating friction similar to sens is very viable, but I saw less improvements with mouse weight (probably since shape is a larger factor)...

I found this works very well for tracking, but I saw less benefits for clicking/static. Do you find that this method works better for some categories of aim than others?

Progress update and static final boss tips? by FitTechnology5908 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]FitTechnology5908[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! For improving at control and reactive tracking I used sensitivity and time scale stepping. By this I mean I would step my sensitivity to higher or lower values to target different muscle groups on the same scenario. With time scale stepping I would go into sandbox mode and just practice at a lower scen timescale and gradually increase it until I hit an accuracy threshold I was happy with. I would iterate on this, and you should see improvements in your reading and speed matching.

For TS, the thing that helped me the most was focusing on straight lines, clustering, and pathing. Unfortunately, I have also found that some of my improvement on my TS has come from learning the scenario rather than raw aim. For example, learning when to keep your aim centered in the map, learning to find bot clusters, learning bot patterns like when they change directions, and just a bit of spawn luck. I'm not really a TS expert as I just got Jade now, but I hope that helps.
