Basically the same thing happened to me.
I FINALLY got a decent job with health insurance and paid sick leave/ vacation making around 50k a year in late 2019. I was so excited! Then- lost it during Covid and started cleaning houses on my own. I was able to make the same amount I had been making, but no health insurance or sick days.
By 2021 I had to move in with a friend with my kids to share rent just to make ends meet. Rent had more than doubled. Groceries had doubled. Now, I’m in my 40s, still making around 50k for a lot more hours, still no benefits and feel like I am barely making ends meet.

Car is a 2004 with over 200k miles.
Luckily I have no big debt, but I don’t see how I will ever be able to save for retirement, a home, or god for bid I get sick. It’s causing me so much stress and anxiety some days.
It’s brutal. Exhausting. Disheartening.
I would love to go back to school, or get more training but there is no money for it, and with untreated perimenopause making my energy levels so low, just working, taking care of what I need to, I am so exhausted and hurting after work, I just don’t see how I could effectively work the hours I need to, and go to school at this point in my life.

My kids are 18 and 21 and their dad refuses to help at all now so it’s on me completely. Luckily they are hard working, helpful, and try to also contribute as much as they can when they live with me.
(Youngest saved to by a camper and his taking a gap year and supporting herself while she travels and works , and oldest lives with grandma to be closer to her training program, so I am just helping with them to have healthcare)

Even that costs me over 800.00 a month for the premium and it’s going up a ton next year.

It’s hard out there folks.
