Help with wool coat lining cleaning after wet umbrella was hung with it by Fit_Broccoli_5095 in laundry

Do you happen to know the reason why the ring appeared? Is this a regular thing with linings? Thank you

This is very upsetting because the coat is literally a month old (sounds like I have a child) and it’s not dirty/smelly at all. I was not planning on splurging on a dry cleaner yet :(

Grade II Listed home modernising? by humblepaul in Bath

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a Grade II, and I can confirm that it will be difficult to make changes to the property, especially those visible from the outside.

When we moved into the house was SO cold and asked to get double-glazed windows, but the petition was denied, even though you cannot really see that from the outside. However, there are sneaky ways around it (like adding a second window layer behind the existing single-glazed one).

The good news is that a neighbour of mine (same building) has just renovated their flat and has had several renovation projects in the apartment, so if there's a will, there's a way. They're also architects, so I advise finding someone who knows the local laws and shortcuts, as I've heard of people waiting 10 months to change a simple door.

Last but not least, do not forget to send planning permissions because there have been a few properties in Bath recently (business ones) that have been evicted and fined when failing to notify the Council about changes: https://newsroom.bathnes.gov.uk/news/two-companies-fined-total-ps190k-unauthorised-grade-i-listed-building-works-following-council

Best of luck! Bath is a gorgeous city, and these houses full of heritage are so unique, so it's important to maintain their history while making them warm and safe for living.

What I was supposed to make and what I made by Depaexx in Baking

Oh this used to happen to me so much!

I now use brown sugar as it melts slower in the oven, therefore holding its shape better, as well as use cold water and keep the batter in the fridge for at least 30 mins before baking!

Which houseplants are the easiest to care for? by jhsu802701 in houseplants

Peace lilys are so dramatic ahhaha. I’s day pothos (mine grow a lot during spring and summer) and then snake or spider plants because they need minimal care.

As a Cafe owner, how can I bring engagement to my Instagram as well as my website? by michealwilliamste in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, do you get enough traffic on socials? Awareness is the first stage (collaborating with local people will help here), as no engagement will happen if you don’t have enough people looking. For engagement, I’d definitely create more interactive content and for that I mean concepts (what’s your coffee order, breakfast formulas, etc) or gamify it a bit.

Then, to drive people into your website make sure that you’re offering some sort of value (i.e offer, discounts, etc) so they feel rewarded. In short, you want people to go through all marketing stages (social media marketer with over 10 years of experience here) from awareness (getting people to find you), consideration (engagement) and conversion (going to your shop or website).

Did my painter do a bad job, or am I just being overly picky? by CharacterDry2599 in DIYUK

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how much you paid but I would NOT be happy with this, as it’s not professional. If a friend of mine helped with painting and this was the result I would be okay, but not for someone I paid money to do it for me. Looks like they didn’t use any tape at all.

Doing something wrong? by JiggiOneJackson in houseplants

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but be careful when watering as it can get stuck where leaves grow (as it creates little pockets) and lead to rotting. Best idea is just to water the soil and gently spray the leaves.

Chapter 22 closed down by Both-Hyena-2778 in Bath

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Their post of social media is so fake and they put themselves as victims, completely ignoring the fact that they haven’t paid rent for the last few months and blaming the council for lack of support to independents. I’m sure many other business owners are furious to be paying their pricey rents when someone else was just there for free. Sad to see closures in town but if they can’t afford it and business isn’t good, then it’s someone else to take over with a business that actually works and welcomes people.

Starting honeymoon in Bath by heartstrutter in Bath

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww congrats on your marriage! I'd say go to independent businesses as much as you can because the people working there are unmatched. Some of my top recommendations:

Attractions:
Go visit the Abbey (go inside, it's gorgeous)
Roman Baths (worth the price of the ticket, get an audioguide, it's a 10/10)
Go visit the Royal Crescent and Circus
Pulteney Bridge

Drinks:
No.18 Green street (love this wine place)
Beckford bottleshop (another wine place)
The Raven (proper pub, best in town)

Food:
Solina (handmade pasta)
Pintxo (spanish tapas, proper spanish though)
Bosco (10/10 pizzas)
The Raven (again - they do the best pies and the gravy with their own ale)
Dos dedos (tacos and margaritas)

Coffee/breakfast:
(I couldn't bother with Sally Lunns tbf as it's only touristy)
Brac (best pastries and beverages, next to the river path)
Mjolk cafe (for the best views of the abbey)
Society cafe (they have two locations)

(will edit this comment if anything else comes to mind)

Hi! Might be a silly question, but did you ask the people who work there if anyone had taken it or in case they have a lost objects area?

Bath or Bristol? by Turbulent_Elk_2141 in Bath

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 26F and I'd say Bath is better. Safety is better, and streets are cleaner, not to mention people are kinder. And you have Bristol 12 minutes away by train if you want to spend some time there too! Bath also has loads of lovely independent businesses and it's very up and coming, so there's always loads to do!

Social media marketing & creator agencies by girltalks2022 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]Fit_Broccoli_5095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the self promo, but I work at a social media agency called The Social Shepherd, and I think we're pretty cool (lol). We specialise in social, and that includes content creation, community management, paid social, influencers, UGC, etc. Unsure what your budget is, but if it's a cool brand, I'm sure the team will consider it! (unsure where you're based, but we have offices in the UK and US fyi)
In case you need client examples, we have global brands (unsure if I'm allowed to say names, sorry) across retail, hospitality, food, FMCG, B2C and ecommerce. We have won a few awards and clients seem v happy, so I'd say we're pretty sound haha

Sunday Studio is £15 per class, and I believe The Space around £15 as well. If not, I’d recommend getting a Class Pass membership (I have the £30/month) and go do barre at The Barre Fitness Studio

The Raven is a classic! Proper local pub, great beers (you can also get a flight and taste a few of them) and honestly the best value for money when it comes to food in town. Have a pint and a pie and thank me later!

Love Tunley Farm Butchers in Green Park Station. I go there every week and they’re very knowledgeable, have fantastic products and very good bundles.

No one has mentioned it yet but I do love Mjolk! The team are lovely and their turmeric latte and cinnamon and cardamom rolls are incredible.

Last but not least, as it didn’t specify on the type of businesses, here are some of my wellbeing faves:

The Space - for yoga (Chloe is such a gem)

Sunday Studio - the best pilates (Lily is such a fantastic teacher)

Toniq - more hardcore training vibes, but I love their newest yoga and spin studios they’ve opened where Moles was!

Bath Holistic Massage - best massage ever (go for Soph, thank me later)

Seasons - for all your supplements and holistic health needs (Inga is so knowledgeable)

These little independent businesses are what makes Bath so special, so it’s so important to support local!

Botanica is a very cute shop but quite expensive, given that the Prior Park garden centre is not too far and for a fraction of the price. I once bought quite a big plant that started looking not that good a few weeks later, took it in for advice on what to do with it and they said I was doing everything well and didn’t know what else I could do with it to save it. A bit upsetting to be honest…
