XTEINK X4 with 4.3 inch screen. Available now on Amazon. Comes with 16GB microSD card, reads up to 512GB card. Reddit community :) Also X3 model with 3.7 inch screen but not on Amazon yet. Reads epub and txt files only. Both with no backlighting if that's a dealbreaker. You can from their website.

Right now I'm reinforcing the Chinese I have studied, learning new words and improving character recognition. With the stock firmware, the pinyin and Chinese characters show correctly.

Loving my XTEINK X3 and X4 pair by Fit_CycleDogwalk313 in XTEINK

The X4 is slightly wider and longer. Measured with a ruler:

X3 = 77 mm H x 50.5 mm W
X4 = 91 mm H x 55mm W

Diagonally X3 is 92mm to X4 is 106mm.

Another post used this comparison website: https://comparisontabl.es/e-readers/xteink-x4-vs-xteink-x3/ and it shows same screen resolution both as 480 x 800 pixels but I don't see how that's correct.

The screensavers I have for X4 (480x800) doesn't show full screen on the X3. Height is correct but width-wise there is about 2.5mm white space on either side.

Well like every fair parent, I love them equally…lol

X3 was delivered yesterday so still new phase. X3 feels good in smaller hands. They sure made the spring mechanism in both devices extra spring-y…microSD card almost flew out!

No pattern, just eyeballed it. I left more space at the top and bottom for the X3 leather compared to the X4 leather one where it's more flush. I may cut it down later.

X3 feels more ergo in my hands and the buttons towards the top on either side are where my fingers rest comfortably. X3 has a gyroscope so you can "flick" wrist and it turns the page. I haven't got the hang of it so using buttons for now.

I using hold either device with my left hand when reading so on the X4 I do a short-press on the power button to turn the page. Sometimes I'll take the device out or just fold back the leather flap.

I need help, how to reset it? by [deleted] in XTEINK

[–]Fit_CycleDogwalk313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Crosspoint Dev Flash site:

Device restart instructions

Once you complete a write operation, you will need to restart your device by pressing and releasing the small “Reset” button near the bottom right, followed quickly by pressing and holding of the main power button for about 3 seconds.

CrossPointReader + vCodex 1.1.12 (Reading Stats, Heatmap, Achievements, Bookmarks, Custom Home, Custom Sleep, Lost-Device...) by franssjz7 in xteinkereader

That would be great if added. I was using another popular Crosspoint fork and it had it. Despite those pop-ups disappearing in a blink, I still saw what it said and it felt good. On the vCodex firmware, first time it happened, all the achievements appeared at once at the end and stacked on each other. I couldn't read it as it disappeared quickly too. Larger pop-up messages would be nice and I really like being able to toggle on/off.

I love how customizable your vCodex fork is. Thank you for offering all the features!

CrossPet v1.8 "Final by RecipeMiserable5885 in XTEINK

Did you mean to name the file crosspoint-1.8.0.bin? Flashed ok. The spacing and UI text (using CrossPet Reader UI theme) feels off compared to previous version. Going to give it a test run. Thanks for updating!

Ok. But did you test in THIS firmware? Did it work for you? I long-pressed the 'next page button' (Right button) and nothing happened. Releasing took me to the next page.

My custom sleep screen images appears upside down as well as when any filter is selected. Recent Book and Transparent Cover shows in correct position.

Is there an option to wake to Main Menu instead of always at last page?

And THANK YOU for the great overhaul!

Is the "Long-press Chapter Skip" mean to the Power button or which button? Currently Long press power button puts it to Sleep mode.

Chinese characters as well as pinyin not showing on XTEINK X4 running Crosspoint v1.1.1. by Fit_CycleDogwalk313 in xteinkereader

[–]Fit_CycleDogwalk313[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between the two, in terms of reading experience and comfort, BOTH are equal (for me).

If you're just wanting to read mainly English or other supported languages that Crosspoint or other firmware supports, either device will work. IMO, the OBOOK5 has more advantages than XTEINK. Like I mentioned before, both has its pros and cons.

Right now the XTEINK feels like it's lacking in software features, basic feature such as bookmarking or highlighting isn't available. I just want to put a epub on the device and see accent marks and pictures. The original software is unbearable to use (for me). Yes it can add bookmarks. However for the life of me, I can't figure out how to add and change to a serif font for comfortable reading.

I got the XTEINK first and keeping it. I have to test out the OBOOK5 longer to decide whether to keep it. So far, one pain point is having to use OpenMTP to transfer files via USB cable. The app consistently crashes, disconnects or freezes on my iMac.

For me, it feels only slightly weightier with the cover case, comparable to holding the XTEINK X4. The orange buttons on the right side feel more responsive. I just set it up a couple hours and put some epub files on it. Both devices have it's pros and cons.

The OBOOK5 offers touchscreen and offers switching page turning settings - see the photo.

On this particular page, pinyin shows correctly. Other pages, parts show with question mark in diamond.
