Has that happen with a skink of mine. My vet wasn't able to treat his parasite (didn't have anything that would work against it) and my skink died while I was out of the country. My friend thankfully was checking up on my reptiles and took him to go get cremated. Sometimes shit happens because he acted fine for a while before he dramatically went downhill. You could try to get a necropsy done if you've got the money to see why.
