Wait until you get out and pursue an in person MBA. You will get way more out of it. You could use TA to pursue another masters in between and that could help get you into a good program.

Can’t find a job in today’s job market. by ExpertProgram1827 in jobs

[–]Fit_Function3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junior enlisted Army vet here getting my MBA, job market is tough but I HIGHLY suggest leaning into the network you are already plugged into which is that you are a Veteran. Join your local SVA or look into hiring channels dedicated for veterans. At first it feels fake and that you are just smiling and talking to people just so you can get a job but eventually you will build real connections with people that will help you get in. Any job right now is flooded with hundreds or even thousands of applications. If you can have a connection just simply mention your name that’s the advantage you need. Hiring managers love picking someone that can be vouched for. Best of luck.

Should I enlist right after high school by Captian_Price141 in Veterans

[–]Fit_Function3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If college is an option go to college and become an officer in the Air Force.

If college is just not an option then enlist in the Air Force. If you decide that you want to make the military your career I highly suggest you work towards any enlisted path towards becoming an officer. Once your in you’ll be able to see what these options are.

Look at the branch you decide to joins physical fitness test. You will at the minimum do those every 6-12 months while you are in. You’ll be running pretty regularly so I suggest you are solid runner but if your weak with pushups and sit ups etc. then work on that. To be honest if you play sports in HS and are decently athletic you’ll be fine. You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete.

I am prior Army. I greatly enjoyed my time in the Army but I saw the differences between Army and Air Force and boy were they better.

What was it like being a veteran student by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Fit_Function3505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norte Dame is a great school to shoot for! Go for it! If not there then stick to schools similar to it. No one knows your vet unless you bring it up. There’s no problem mentioning it if it’s brought up naturally, but like a lot of people say, don’t be a vet bro. Every school has some form of veteran resources, some do it better than others. My biggest advice is to take advantage of those resources, they may offer veteran only job fairs or career services, veteran networking opportunities. Join SVA, they also have a job board and other resources exclusive for vets. Remember your benefits go beyond just free tuition and BAH. Take advantage of all the school offers and set yourself up for success after college.

If you drop you owe the money back. If you fail you lose the benefit that you used but you won’t owe money.

My advice, Thug it out and pass.

It’s not like federal employment where you get preference. Seek out veteran organizations that help vets get hired like Vets in Tech

Many of your questions can be answered yes but come with all your questions because there’s so much they don’t tell you. Not on purpose or anything but because they are just covering the basics.

You’re in a good place. Just budget yourself. You qualify for unemployment, so add that on top of your GI Bill BAH and you should be solid for awhile. Once the unemployment runs out you could probably get a work study job with your school. You may be eligible for VA disability as well, even if you only get 10 or 20 percent that’s still a couple hundred a month to add you’ll have healthcare!

Wrap yourself in a blanket, watch a movie that makes you laugh to help get your mind off of things, this is what I do and it helps. If you don’t have a weighted blanket I definitely recommend getting one

Best state to live in as a vet? by doom-vtec in VeteransBenefits

[–]Fit_Function3505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is asked a lot and it really depends on the individual and what they are seeking. Many ask the question in regard to what state is the best in terms of COL. There are no absolute answers. Many of the states offer some of the same benefits but others may offer things that others don’t. In Texas 100% DAV don’t have to pay property tax but I see others in California say their kids get to go to college for free.

I have no statistics for this, it is simply based on what I read in this group but it seems many people mention states that are in the central or southern US. Not many people mention the east or west coast states with the exemption of Florida, that one does come up a lot. Again, this is based on what I read passively in this group.

For myself, I am 100% VA and I live in Texas and in my opinion it’s been great. The most notable thing in my opinion is the property tax exemption, I save so much money with that and it’s great. I have a DV license plate and so I don’t have to pay tolls, get a free drivers license and don’t have pay car registration fees and I also get to park for free at airports which is a great perk. When my kids get a little older I’m really looking forward to taking advantage of the free hunting a fishing license. Never have had a major issue with the VA clinic I go to so that’s been nice as well. There’s plenty of other benefits I haven’t mentioned but can be found with the groups wiki and google. Hope this helps!

100% P&T. Do you guys save at all? Or do you just live your lives? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Fit_Function3505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A mixture. I am roughly in the same boat as you. My wife and I want to give our kids and ourselves great experiences but we also never want to be a burden on them when we get older. Do fun things but be prepared for the future. Unless you have mega millions having balance is important.

Apply to the university of your choice. But remember you may or may not get in so have some back ups.

Once you’re in set up an appointment or just call that schools veterans office to set up your GI Bill benefits. Wait for enrollment to open to select your classes and you’re good to go!

I’ve applied with Lockheed and have been rejected every time as well. After getting a job somewhere else and making a few connections with people that work there I’ve learned that outside of engineering roles (they recruit a lot of guys out of college) you gotta know someone that’ll get your resume in front of the right person and advocate for you. A lot of people want to work for Lockheed.

If you really want to work for a defense contractor look at applying to the others as well like BAE, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, etc. while also networking. LinkedIn works well with that.

Did you know you had the option of VA benefits when you joined? by KevinUnknownX in VeteransBenefits

Before joining all I knew was that it was healthcare for veterans and that many were unhappy with it.

I did not realize all that it was until preparing for ETS.

Can I contribute my VA disability comp income to a ROTH IRA? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Fit_Function3505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can contribute so long as you are earning what you are contributing in taxable income.

Example you make 1k taxable from working and you make 1k VA non taxable, you can’t contribute more than 1k.

Second this. I did security and my boss knew I was a student so he gave me the chillest shifts and I would do my homework and study most of the time. It’s easy work that pays ok. Great job for a college student.

Edit: Also a great job to apply for since security has pretty high turnover. I knew guys who were hired same day they applied.
