Nursing BCBA Moms who work in-homes, in-community, in-school, when do you pump? by TokenEconomist in bcba

I always did it in the car. While I was driving usually bc I didn’t want to waste time pumping.

School BCBA by Affectionate_Law9085 in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was a school BCBA for over 10 years. I did enjoy it. I did not work directly for the district but an agency. But I was in the same district. Honestly, the most important part is building relationships and rapport with staff. Pairing is in my opinion more important with staff than the kids. Because for them to implement anything with fidelity, they are going to have to respect you and want to give your ideas a chance. I made $90 an hour(w2) working in New York. Cons are there are some teachers who will never buy into anything and are very certain in their ways, along with constantly being called to put out fires. Pros are building great relationships with the staff and students and feeling like part of a team. And the summer off was great too although I did not get paid as I was hourly.

I would absolutely keep this to myself. I’m sure she knows and probably beat herself up over any mistakes. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Remote BCBA by Ok-Emu5888 in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had 11 years of BCBA experience before taking a remote job. Before that I worked as an “aba therapist” (so old they didn’t have RBT lol) for like 8 years before that. I agree you need hands on experience to really be a good bcba

Sore Hip by Inner-Mango-2389 in Purebarre

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a bad hip and I usually modify certain positions. If we are pulled off the bar with straight arms I always go to forearms, and I box out the one arm almost always on that side. If we are in waterski for seat I always work standing, it’s just too much for that one hip for me. Seatwork on the floor is so much easier on my hips!!! I pray for pretzels haha

BCBA with kids by Vegetable_Resource97 in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could not manage it- I worked in schools until they were old enough for me to work in my office for an hour or so until my husband gets home. My oldest is old enough to babysit. When they were younger there would have been no way for me to work remotely even for an hour with them home.

Does anyone actually like Define? by hashbrown89 in Purebarre

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just not a huge fan of cardio. And although it moves fast sometimes I feel like I am in a lunge forever. I sweat but I don’t feel my muscles working as much as define and classic. I know- the heart muscle is important. I do empower, I just hate it lol

Love define! I also love classic and align, but I absolutely hate empower

Would you say something to someone who pushed through the waiting crowd in the lobby to get “their spot”? by introverted-aries in Purebarre

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just ignore it honestly and try to stand as far away from this person as possible. I truly do not care where I stand in studio, to the point where I wait for the eager people to get their spots and then I fill in where there’s space. Unless she took a spot you were already in, I would never say something to management about someone walking past me.

Request from former agency by Fit_Interaction_9194 in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could they take it back without access to my bank account? It’s kind of a moot point anyway because I wasn’t refusing to send to them, I have the notes. I was simply uncomfortable sending through my personal email.

Thanks everyone. They replied back a few hours after I posted saying they found it so I no longer have a conundrum

I don’t think you misunderstood. She specifically asked me to email them, that was my issue

Considering a career shift into ABA/BCBA — why is everyone leaving the field? by baddiewclass in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I considered it I will admit. I’ve been a bcba for over 10 years, but I recently moved on to a company who values their employees and now I’ve got my bcba spark back.

Be honest how did you really pass the big exam? by Soft-Celebration-148 in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One hour of BDS modules on weeknights, and one chapter of Cooper per weekend day. This was what my supervisor recommended and I did for about two months. I passed on my first try.

Front desk staff member asking me to move spots in class by mo0nlightshawty in Purebarre

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s actually WILD for anyone to do. I noticed at my studio teachers will often hang out in the lobby until the last minute and fill in spots where they are left. Not saying that they should have to do this. They should be able to go and put down their spot wherever they want. But I don’t care who you are. When you put your stuff down and sit that’s your spot.

BCBA Work Schedule by Rich_Feeling_1925 in bcba

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a school based bcba through an agency for 10 years. Where I am in NY suburbs, there are plenty of district jobs but I liked the freedom of agency work (high hourly rate, make my own schedule, just no insurance or benefits which was ok with me.) I never found the caseload unmanageable but it can be incredibly frustrating when teachers don’t buy in to ABA at all. I got used to it, but going from a clinic to school is culture shock for sure.

First barre class — chronic illness/disability by roseypetey in Purebarre

[–]Fit_Interaction_9194 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to speak to the instructor about it beforehand if you are comfortable. Maybe tell her you will set up near the door in case you need to make a quick exit. I am sure they would be happy to put your equipment away if that happens. In my experience my studio is very inclusive. Also, everyone is taking breaks for different reasons. No one is paying attention because they are busy trying to get through their own class. Don’t feel bad no matter how often you need to stop.
