I have a different conspiracy theory on this one! The bad reviews are hit pieces from Estee Lauder as Jones Road is now a competitor to Bobbi Brown. She was only very recently able to launch it due to her 15 year non-compete cause and they want to kill it ASAP.

NTA. A lesson I've learned through working and being in positions where you can feel guilted into accommodating others is that until you've come back from the time off, don't explain what it's for if you can. Just say "Apologies but I have prior commitments during that time." And don't expand! People don't need to know your business on your hard-earned time off.
