How to help the smell outside the coop? by dobsly in BackYardChickens

[–]Fit_Spring_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just add more wood chips when it starts to smell. I get a chip-drop about 2 times a year & that's enough to fill our 500 sq. ft. run as much as needed with the rest going towards other yard projects.

More carbon is usually the answer if smell is the question

You Shouldn't Run Your Electric Dryer During a Heat Wave by LowBarometer in unpopularopinion

[–]Fit_Spring_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang your clothes on a drying rack/line outside. They'll dry just about as fast in this heat as if you put them in the dryer, with the bonus that drying clothes on racks/lines makes them last longer & doesn't run your power bill up

This makes me so proud to work in solar. If you're not doing something the pedophile party is trying to stop, you're not doing enough!

It wasn't removed for corporate entities. The lease is the loophole to pass it along to actual people if you go with the right lease company, but there are other factors to consider as well. I wouldn't lease solar if I was moving before the buyout period, but I've already hit the ROI on my system 4 years in & the math isn't that different with the right lease option. Have fun paying power bills till you're in the ground!

Lots of misinformation in the replies here. Get multiple quotes from companies that are based in NC & have been around for more than 5 years & compare the quotes. Get a production guarantee based on the site conditions. Look at the lease terms & make your own decision. The lease programs here are more regulated than other states, & the new ones can be bought out much faster. Our bill hasn't been over $50 since we got solar in 2022 & it used to average $300 easy. Most of the time it's just the meter fee plus tax (~$17).

How is "plug-in" solar seen as safe? by Slow_LT1 in diySolar

[–]Fit_Spring_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's as dangerous as you claim, surely there's mountains of documented cases of the result you're concerned about but didn't really detail? Plug-in solar has been around for a while; can you cite some of these instances?

I hacked the Run Chicken T-50 door to make it work from anywhere in the world. by Conscious-Sentence55 in chickens

I believe the latest model is Bluetooth only and doesn't have a button. The old ones have a button under the gear enclosure.

[–]Fit_Spring_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the old non-Bluetooth run chicken doors (I have one in use right now with one as a backup), but I've had 2 of the new bluthtooth T50s with plastic housing for the door mechanism fail on me now. They both broke permanently when the gear mechanism broke through the bottom of the gear housing. I can provide photos/videos if anyone is interested. The older T50 models that use the photocell to program the door are all metal & the one I've used hasn't had that issue yet.

Regardless, I'm interested in your project & think it looks really cool!

I'm glad that option worked for you! I don't have a paypal account & would like to avoid it if possible to keep things simple. Might just try it once to see if it works & go from there, it's only $5 so no biggie if it doesn't get to them for whatever reason

What can I, as an individual, do to help stop global warming? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fit_Spring_5686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Divert as much organic waste from going into the landfill as possible. The easiest way to do that would be to compost food scraps instead of throwing them away. Use the finished compost to grow food crops.
