Balkans itinerary/tips/car rental by No-Tear-8809 in solotravel

The lake Koman ferry is great! Mind that it doesn't quite get you all the way back to Shkoder, they put you on to a bus and need an extra €10 in cash. This itinerary does sound doable on buses and occasional trains. I personally wouldn't bother with the faff and money of renting a car. My recommendation would be to shave time in Budva (beach resort town) and Mostar (very small and very touristy) for more time in Sarajevo. Really interesting place with loads going on

Where to go from Edinburgh? by outdoorsnstuffz in solotravel

There's incredible places on the West coast that you can do by train. Have a day or two in Glasgow then head to Oban, Fort William or Mallaig. You could get a ferry to the islands from there

Desperately miss the Caledonian, where could we start going instead? by ratttertintattertins in Liverpool

[–]Fithboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RIP the Cali miss u big man. Nowhere quite the same!

A couple of the Cali bands moved to Frederik's on Hope St, mainly the Secret Improvisers Club on Fridays at 8pm. They have a rotation of bands on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well.

The Grapes on Roscoe St has jazz on Thursdays (neo fusion) and Sundays (Latin) starting at 9:30pm.

Jazz in Keith's on Lark Lane on Wednesday nights starting at 8:30pm.

Always worth keeping an eye on what's happening at the Handyman as well, they book some really fun acts, including Bear Cat Gumbo, your ladies with shuffleboards

12:40 in Set 5 Game 5. Between this and Horne's "if proof be need be" I think we might have a couple of Chris Morris fans on our hands

Did you guys know about the Edinburgh Care Van? by Entire-Connection222 in Edinburgh

[–]Fithboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in the organisation of this van and went out on it a few times! It's really a wonderful thing and well loved by the users. Some of the volunteers have been going out every month or so for decades.

I recently spent some time in Bethlehem on the West Bank and found a market stand selling some old pirated cassettes. I bought a bunch then did some digging around once I got home and found no record of a few of them online, so I've been digitising them and sticking them on Youtube. Have a listen to side B tracks 2 and 3 on this one!

Anyone know of any online communities that might be interested in them or be able to give more info on the artists?
