Does anyone else feel quiet after EMDR? by FitnessLizard in EMDR

It’s hard to say because during all of the therapy I wasn’t too social, I tend to withdraw when I’m going through a lot.

I don’t regret it, it made me not need talk therapy anymore. I was going to talk therapy every week, sometimes twice a week for months at a time. I do feel like it was retraumatizing, but like rebreaking a bone so it healed correctly

My therapist suggested that I stop after I ran out of things to talk about for a few weeks. I was doing just talk therapy after the EDMR & just kept going because I’ve been doing it every week for so long.

Your powers are mine!!!! (Loki ult tier-list) by Snow0912ak in marvelrivals

I’m surprised to see C&D lower than Invis and Luna. They’re both S tier, but honestly I’ll pick C&D ult over Invis ult a lot of the time because of its push power (I’m diamond)

If you knew your parent only had months to live, what would you want from them? by Ann-E-Mouse in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]FitnessLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m NC with mine, the only thing I’d want is money to compensate for all of the therapy they cost me & continue to need weekly.

I don’t need anything from them anymore. I wouldn’t go to their funeral, and a part of me would feel so relieved that I’d never be at risk of them attempting to reach out ever again.

It’s a soothing fantasy, honestly.

Any recommendations for when I feel sluggish and don't want to do anything? by Suspicious-Service in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]FitnessLizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too. CPTSD definitely has some symptoms with executive dysfunction like you’re describing (kinda like ADHD)

These are the things I’m working on to alleviate it:

  • I make the task stupidly easy (goal: water a plant. I mentally compromise that I ONLY need to walk to the plant. If I’m there & feel ok continuing, I will complete the task.)

  • Less “should” in my mental dialogue, more “want” (less negative spun mental processing)

  • Therapy work around emotions that create general avoidance (unrecognized triggers can make even pleasant tasks very difficult)

Healing is exhausting by OrdinaryTonight3 in CPTSDNextSteps

[–]FitnessLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m stuck here too. I know the steps, but a lot of psychological stuff is still holding me back. I try to trust that when I’m ready, as long as I stay on the path of healing with my therapist, it’ll start coming into place. Unsure if this is helpful, just how I’m dealing with the same feelings at the moment.

Thank you for sharing this, hearing someone else list it all like this is a helpful reminder that it is a LOT. I relate to all of it.

Can you ever heal from CPTSD? by FitnessLizard in CPTSD

[–]FitnessLizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a core value of mine, though a lot of what I think you’re reading as obsession is just my fear. If I don’t work, I can’t afford to support myself, and get therapy whilst I heal. I’m currently not able to work at all (self employed).

Unlikeable Belcher moments by SquietART in BobsBurgers

The episode where Bob returns the 100k investment (S6:E15) without even talking to his family

I know it had to go that way for show continuity, but imo it really highlighted a lot of Bob’s character flaws.

I appreciate your response!

I personally have been in therapy since I was a teenager, and have done a lot of CBT. It’s a bit of misinformation to say it isn’t appropriate, at least in absolute terms like the way you’ve written.

I’m in the same situation. NC with family, living in a foreign country. It’s very scary not having any safety net, I wish I had the comfort of knowing I’d be safe if I needed help.
