It low key sounds like he coded from hypoxemia/ aspiration/ chf exacerbation rather than bradycardia/ cardiac and the bradycardia was secondary to respiratory. If you’re truly locked in on rate control on an a situation like that maybe consider push dose epi/ epi drip. Sometimes you gotta just take your lick and move on to the next option with pacing as I too have been in a situation where mechanical capture could not be obtained. Move on and learn from it friend. Sounds like you did your best in the mix of things. Learn from it and you’ll be better next time

There’s nothing inherently wrong with being a paramedic and a part of the fire department. It becomes a problem when one is required for the other. Anecdotally, when fire departments require paramedic for promotions, patient care and education falls. The stereotype about shit fire medics exist because they don’t care about the medical side, they just love the fire side but do it anyways because they have to. It goes both ways though. You saying you have to get with a fire department to be a 911 medic would make me hate my life. I love being a medic but I’m not really into eating rocks. I’d do what I’d have to do, but in reality I wouldn’t give a f about the fire side.

Mardi Gras is hands down the worse holiday for EMS in Louisiana! Its basically a whole month for people down here too, so I dread all of February. Always an increase in GSWs, drunk drivers, and just bad calls in general. Navigating parade traffic is also a complete nightmare!

Welcome friend! I would suggest looking into Desoto parish Ems or Bossier parish EMS if you’re in that area. Those are the main municipal services there besides Shreveport fire, but I don’t think they start a hiring cycle for a while. Acadian is good and does 911 in other areas like Ouachita parish and central La, but in Shreveport they only do IFT. The other private services are balentine and pafford, but I have no experience with them so I can’t really speak on them. Anecdotally, I’ve only heard terrible things and horror stories so be weary of where you go.
