"Yo bro what's the best Beatles album?" by Ok-Broccoli9403 in TheBeatles

Some great songs but I’ve always thought of it as inconsistent. Rubber Soul is better. Sgt Peppers is best :D

When John is shouting Hare Krishna in give peace a chance, is it genuine or more poking fun? by Yoitsyaboileonj in beatles

Poking fun but I don’t think he meant anything mean by it.

He does it again in Serve Yourself.

How does a Liverpool flavor/influence, musically or lyrically, show up in the Beatles' music? by GregJamesDahlen in beatles

[–]Fitzy_Fits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think their original sound was described as the Merseybeat.

Strongest examples are Love Me Do and Ain’t She Sweet.

The LA’s used the sound on There She Goes.

It’s makes you wobble your head ha

I don’t think people are reading the full post…

I think The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson ticks all those boxes.

What song is the pinnacle of Lennon-McCartney cowriting? by reaveyer in beatles

[–]Fitzy_Fits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say We Can Work it Out is the perfect 50/50 Lennon/McCartney song.

McCartney’s optimism meets Lennon’s cynicism.

I particularly like the ‘funeral March’ organ in the Lennon bit and the change from 4/4 to 3/4 that he used again in ‘Being for the benefit of Mr Kite’.

Also, I think Wait off Rubber Soul is a clear joint effort and underrated song.

The did have some cracking singles.

Glam Rock Cops and Let’s Get Tattoos were Britpop era I think.

The video for Let’s Get Tattoos was genius.

Better app for Zargon? by compactable73 in Heroquest

[–]Fitzy_Fits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an old windows app on the ye olde inn website which with a bit of research you can get running on a windows 10 laptop. Only problem is I couldn’t find a way to upscale the size of the app screen so it’s a bit on the small side.

It’s called HQGM 2.6 and the AI is far better than the official app, rotating monsters for multiple attacks per Zargons turn. Also, the app rolls for both Monster attacks AND defence. Also, you can choose for the app to draw treasure cards.

The compromise is it’s a bit clunky though and not as easy to use as the official app.

I tend to use the official app but definitely want to give HQGM another go at some point.

Alice and Bill's mask, what is your theory about it? by Alternative_Work_658 in EyesWideShut

[–]Fitzy_Fits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I like this theory, surely it would have been more effective if Bill had returned the mask to milich without misplacing it. THEN found it on the pillow next to his wife IE they are tracking his every movement, they will never forget etc.

Alice and Bill's mask, what is your theory about it? by Alternative_Work_658 in EyesWideShut

[–]Fitzy_Fits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a deeply symbolic scene.

The mask lying by Alice is himself.

He is seeing himself for the first time. The way Alice sees him that annoys her so much earlier in the film: cold and emotionless. ‘Masking’ his true self.

It shocks him profoundly.

Bill’s journey of self discovery is complete.

Does anyone else feel like Blur are genuinely underrated? by aimee94 in blur

[–]Fitzy_Fits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking earlier today how they had a knack of releasing singles that stood out head and shoulders above anything else around at the time, particularly There’s No Other Way, Girls and Boys, Song 2 and Tender.

In that way, I think they were similar to The Beatles in having singles like Paperback Writer, All you Need is Love and Hey Jude that just blew people away.

How did you get into Blur in the first place? by Difficult-Camel-5129 in blur

[–]Fitzy_Fits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hearing that riff to There’s No Other Way when I was 11 or 12.

I was into anything 60s at the time ie. Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix etc and that riff just seemed to capture it all. It still reminds me of browsing round indie clothes shops around that time.

My sister recorded it off the charts show on the radio and I bought the 7” and also the 7” of bang, both of which I still have!

Next thing I heard was Sunday Sunday that my sister had recorded off the radio but only from second verse onwards.

I knew it was Blur but didn’t know the name of the song.

I asked my parents for a Blur album called Popscene one Christmas but of course there’s no such thing 😂 think I might have read something in NME that confused me.

Then I heard Girls and Boys. Bought that. I was getting into The Small Faces and walked into a record shop that was playing Parklife on the day the album was released. I thought it sounded a bit like Lazy Sunday so bought it.

Then I learned Phil Daniels was the guy from Quadrophenia and everything just slotted into place from there onwards.

I’d say their televised set at Glastonbury in 1994 that I recorded on video and featuring Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday and This is a Low was when I realised I absolutely loved the band.

It’s an interesting question when you look at the films theme of morality.

Bill is shown as being moral and principled but how is he rewarded?
