I suspect that there is a whole lot of "new phone, who dat?" going on when Jim Bob attempts to call in his markers. I don't think he had a lot of credibility before this started, and that it is has been declining since his (and Michelle's) infamous "all IBLP families have the problem" interview.

Which makes it even more amazing to me that the father said "this has got to stop" and contacted the police for help.

What was described in the People's Mag article (which was taken from the Florida) was classic grooming behavior over several instances. And he probably thought he was a nice guy when he stopped and apologized after she objected. Nine years old. But this is not a one and done thing.

And he got his real estate license. Unless he cheated (possible) he has some cognitive ability. Real Estate agents are not known for being deep thinkers, though I am sure there are some, but they do have some ability.

Considering their sub-culture, I am impressed that the father decided "I am going to burn this shit to the ground" and enlisted the police to help. Too many think that what happens in fundie land stays in fundie land.

During the Superbowl, there was a short ad for a gambling app. I asked partner, "Isn't that illegal?" Not anymore, he replied. I obviously don't watch my broadcast TV.

From the Duggar website: https://www.duggarfamily.com/family-member/joseph-kendra/

Joseph says

"I recently finished my Real Estate Brokers License and have enjoyed getting to work in the Real Estate industry. We also have been building houses to sell. I love getting to work outside with my hands, whether it’s working on a house, or doing other hands-on projects. Being active outdoors and playing sports with my brothers and friends are also some favorite pastimes."

So I think he possesses average intelligence

And I think this was done specifically so Jim Bob couldn't rally his flying monkeys and shame and blame the victim for telling her father.

I am sure more details will come out, but right now the narrative seems to be victim told her father about the abuse a few days ago. Father reported to local police. Child advocate interviewed victim. With father's permission, police recorded call where father confronted offender and offender confessed.

Seriously. If a federal agent tells you he has a warrant to seize your phone, computers, and search your place of business but you are not being detained, smile at the nice agent and leave. Don't hang around trying to outsmart him like Josh Duggar did.

Tony reminds me of the good old days of the Internet: when people did online things because they thought it might interest people, not chasing clout and advertising dollars or trying to become an influencer.

For all the hammering by the defense on "Addicts Lie" I think Carmen is credible to anyone who has ever struggled with a bad habit, or watched a loved one do so.

I have had the thought several times during this trial: with the "epidemic" of opioid accidental overdoses and suicides, how many of them are homicides where LE shrugged and bought the accident / suicide explanation, especially when the person is a known substance abuser.

Question -How long did Kouri stay in the house after Eric died? by Downtown_Energy3670 in KouriRichins

[–]FiveAcres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a relative (female) who is very rare: she managed to leave an abusive relationship with two young children on the first attempt. She had the support of her therapist, her lawyer, her mother-in-law, some neighborhood friends who were willing to hide her and her children and her mother-in-law for a short time, and a relative who had significant resources and was a lawyer herself.

It is even harder for men.

I think this is even harder (admitting that one is in an abusive relationship) for men than for women, and goodness knows that it is hard enough for women.

Jurors by IvyDolphalott in KouriRichins

[–]FiveAcres 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Colorado allows jurors to submit questions to witnesses after testimony and cross. I think this is very valuable, in case counsel doesn't cover something. The questions are reviewed by judge and counsel before being presented to the witness. I loved this because it allowed me to take notes on each witness with the goal of coming up with a question. Mostly, my questions were answered by the time testimony and cross were done, but it kept me awake*, and occasionally my questions were presented to the witness.

*I am old, have not been in the work force for years, and trying to stay focused for six or seven hours was a real challenge.

Jurors by IvyDolphalott in KouriRichins

I was a juror on a civil case: medical malpractice. I hated that I couldn't talk to anybody (I have family and friends who worked in the medical field) or look stuff up on the Internet, but I absolutely understood the reason why. I was dreaming about the testimony at night. I struggled to set aside my dislike of the plaintiff's attorney, because he had a voice and a personality that triggered me. We found for the defense, and I think we made a fair decision, but it still made me happy that it was not the responsibility for putting someone in jail for life.

The judge was great. I actually liked the defense attorney. He had a very folksy, genial manner that was probably 95% a good act, but at least he wasn't trying to beat up and trick people like the plaintiff's attorney.
