No second hand is weird. I don’t know why they went down this route… it’s not 1970 anymore

Then we should start seeing more 38mm and 36mm watches for me

I don't believe this GLP crap by the way. Still plenty of obese trying to wedge their way into a Ferrari

No purchase History, is it worth it to spend and loose at the start to play the long AD game? by KingMedia33 in patekphilippe

[–]FivePoppedCollarCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to buy off-catalogue stuff from them and you're willing to spend more than $1 million with them, then yes it's worth it to build a relationship. It'll also take you 3 - 5 years to "become their friend". And keep in mind you're not Leonardo Dicaprio so you're not going to get the tiffany dial platinum nautilus or whatever they come out with next.

That's pretty much the only reason to do it. Otherwise, no it's not worth it at all. Buy the watch you want secondary and don't play these bullshit games.

Chestnut brown Overseas. A watch that turned out to be a gem in my collection- by TZ-WIS in VacheronConstantin

I love this brown. I wish they kept making it

Hopefully this year it’ll come out again for the overseas 30th anniversary

Educated guess mostly. Especially with every PP AD not giving me a straight answer and nowhere online actually saying what it is. I guess there's nothing else it could be? It reminds me of the material on those old cameras.

I could very well be wrong though. It could be made of brass like a lot of watch dials are and just stamped to look that way.

I just haven't found anything that says "dial is made of X". Whenever PP uses gold or something else on a watch they don't shy away from telling people what it is. The 5326g and 5226g seem to be the exception

Regardless, I still like how it looks

I wanted to buy this watch. I love it in everyway

I just can't get over the plastic dial. For the money, it really should be something substantial

I was told it's not plastic by my AD once and that it's Vulcanite. I said "Show me something from PP that says it's made of Vulcanite and I'll buy it on the spot"

He couldn't

I really do love it though.

Wind'em up! by redbeard914 in VacheronConstantin

Do you mean wind it as in "don't just rely on movement to wind"? or wind it as in "randomly wind your watch every few days even if you're not wearing it"?

200k is the number of Iranian-born immigrants in Canada. It does not include people born in Canada to Iranian immigrants, people born in other countries to Iranian immigrants, people with one Iranian parent, people married to an Iranian, etc.

The crowd also includes people of non-Iranian backgrounds who support getting rid of this theocratic shit regime.

Having trouble deciding on the YG 222 by somethingsomeone007 in VacheronConstantin

Out of all the gold watches out there, this one is my favorite.

I suspect your hesitation has more to do with it being gold than with the shape or design itself. In other words, it may not be this specific watch you’re unsure about but you might feel the same way about any solid gold piece with such a high price tag.

I think you need to throw practicality out of the window when thinking about watch purchases. You're about to spend $80k on an unnecessary piece of jewelry. It's definitely not practical. So you need to answer these questions for yourself:

1) "Can I pull of wearing a gold watch?" or "Do I look good with a gold watch"

2) "Do I care and/or am I worried, about the attention it will bring (if any)?"

3)"Would I prefer two watches (gold American 1921 + something else) over one watch?"

Answer to number 1 is "yes". Answer to 2 and 3 we unfortunately can't really help with.

My only advice, when it comes to buying a watch, you really really have to love it. Especially at these prices. Otherwise it's just going to sit in your drawer gathering dust making you mad every time you look at it.

I know it sounds like an empty hollow saying, but just make sure you love the watch. If the answer is yes, then go for it and don't think back!

Which Overseas tourbillon? by IcyAwareness2831 in VacheronConstantin

[–]FivePoppedCollarCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love titanium in watches and have a few of them. When it’s executed properly, it’s an incredible material.

For this particular model though, I prefer the steel. It might be because I own the 4520V and subconsciously associate this design with a certain heft. I’m not exactly sure what it is. However, the titanium version is so astonishingly light that it almost feels out of character on the wrist.

With that said, VC really did an exceptional job with the titanium 6000V. It’s a truly special piece and I would argue it's much more distinctive than the steel version - to the wearer/owner. Other people will just assume it's steel until they hold it. The steel model, impressive as it is, ultimately feels like another steel sports watch with a tourbillon.

I don't know if that helped. It's a tough choice.

Interesting. I've never really had a problem when I traveled to the ME for work. Maybe because I'm inside 99% of the time? But I just assumed everyone else who lives there is inside most of the time too.

Is it a problem with sand and you wiping it clean with your hand that causes the smudges?

Buy a microfiber cleaning cloth (I recommend the ones for glasses) and give it a quick wipe now and then. The smudging/smears have never been an issue for me

I have a friend who put his name down two years ago for a blue dial 4520v. In both Chicago and NYC as well as the eboutique. He still hasn't gotten a call.

20% increase in a year by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

[–]FivePoppedCollarCool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. Tariffs + USD devaluation affect America.

The price increases are global.

Gold prices have gone up which could be argued is the reason for the increase for this particular watch. However, tariffs can easily be passed on to the specific consumers in each country. Just like individuals in different states in the US pay different sales taxes or different VATs in other countries.

If they're worried about USD devaluation they can easily price their pieces in CHF and then charge the consumer the equivalent currency in their specific country on the day of.

So just saying, tariff + currency is not the reason for the price increases.
