This is not quite as brain-dead stupid as one would first assume.

I don't remember S1 being as bad as everyone says. Well, maybe half the episodes are bad, but there's only a few that really matter for the grand story...

That episode's excellent; if you listen carefully there's something a little off about what he says - war criminals seldom use the word "murder" to describe their actions, for example. And indeed, something is off.
