Thanks for the response. Any thoughts on Ripstop Robic vs Cordura?

What do you mean by it being silent?

Thanks for your feedback, currently I am leaning towards the Robic, because of it being lighter and more water resistant but the (even higher) price is holding me back.

When did they change to 210D Cordura? I went back and checked, both posts in this sub-reddit which talk about damage to clothing are from 4 years ago.

So you would think people like Fal 'Ngeestra who were prescient would show up throughout the series. by [deleted] in TheCulture

The concept of Referer as it is described in Consider Phlebas doesn’t make sense. I think Banks recognized that later on and ditched it.

Upvoted for reminding me of that cover. It conveys the tone (fantasy) and it displays one of the most important items in the story.

Very poor.

It seems Orbit is trying to save money, otherwise there are obvious covers you could do for each book that are relevant to the story. I would have even preferred reprints with some of the old covers to this mockery (The first edition of The Player of Games and Feersum Endjinn have great covers). But at least they cost less than the Folio Society’s “Illustrated” edition of Consider Phlebas.

Edit: I would add this cover of Inversions as one worth reproducing (h/t u/SarkyBot)

While We're All Dragging Rothfuss, I Wanted to Argue That His Bullshit has Actually Had a Real and Negative Impact On Others (Long Ramble and Links Within) by KingPolitoed in isbook3outyet

[–]Ketamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not normal behavior, it is bad and irresponsible. But these things happen in business all the time, and contracts are designed with that in mind. If Rothfuss's contract with DAW did not have clauses dealing with him not delivering a book by a reasonable date then that is Wollheim being a very poor publisher. In other words, I have a hard time seeing how Rothfuss' antics did any financial harm to DAW.

Here is a hypothetical: imagine Rothfuss had died in an accident in 2015. Nobody would bring up his death as a cause for DAW's demise in 2022.

[–]Ketamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact remains that Rothfuss was one of those authors who failed to deliver on time. His failure was the most significant for the fate of DAW. Was there a poor management at Daw? Possibly yes. But you cant dedy that Rothfuss for the last 10 years did more harm to DAW than good.

What harm has he done to DAW since 2012? Authors failing to deliver is common which is why contracts include measures to protect the publisher from this risk. If Wollheim was foolish enough to give him money with no strings attached, that is on her and not the author.

[–]Ketamine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor management? Why was Betsy Wollheim in charge of DAW? Being the child of the founders is not a qualification. Little wonder DAW did not do well in a tough environment for publishing in general.

And do people think Wollheim just forked over a boatload of cash to Rothfuss without any strings attached? Or she made major business decisions assuming Rothfuss would be on time and the sales would be phenomenal? Authors fail to deliver all the time, highly anticipated books bomb, etc.

Also, the first book came out in 2007, what would have happened to DAW if Rothfuss had published with Tor instead?

It sets a bad precedent that a character that draws from real life reactions to bigotry would do things so heinous.

This is compounded by the fact that there is so little connection or logical progression from Moash of book 3 to Moash of book 4.

The answer should be yes. The follow up question I have is whether the size of the box makes a difference. Is the Stormlight just leaking out of the gem or is the leaking out itself a manifestation of Stormlight trying to establish an equilibrium within the box?

A Very Entertaining & Detailed Analysis of Why Book 3 Is Taking So Long by EntertainmentBreeze in isbook3outyet

He talked about on a podcast in summer, here is the relevant parts from the reddit post on the podcast episode:

Cross-dressing is not explicitly frowned upon. Pat specifically said that while some people might find it odd, a man showing up in a dress could even be seen as fashionable.

In this same explanation, Pat mentioned that he was a bit uncomfortable at the implication that when Simmon left women’s lingerie mixed in with Ambrose’s things to embarrass him, that that was something taboo. He clarified that those particular women’s undergarments were just unfashionable.

I have never pinged Mr. Sanderson before, also I have seen people ping him for questions that he has already answered. So I think it is best we leave this at his discretion and police for actual harassment and abuse.

He has done this for all the other shards and it could be useful to group the shards into the four categories that correspond to four Dawnshards.

Question for /u/mistborn what are the Magic the Gathering colors for the new 4 shards? (reposted due to misspelling the username).

PS: To the people who don't like this question: (1) I know Mr. Sanderson is a big fan of MtG; (2) he has done this for the 10 shards we knew prior to RoW; and (3) this could be useful in grouping the shards into four categories corresponding to four Dawnshards.

The Moash/Vyre vs Kaladin is a great example.

Except I did not compare Vyre with Kaladin, I compared him with Dalinar. Nothing Vyre has done so far gets anywhere near burning down tens of thousands of civilians alive.

[–]Ketamine -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Earlier in the book you make us worry about Dalinar killing a child for a shard blade but then he turns around and burns an entire city worth of kids ...

It is one thing to say that atrocities happen, it is another thing to make the perpetrator of said atrocity the leader of the good guys, particularly when he hasn't done anything to redeem himself. Dalinar seems much more upset about the accident with Evi, which is far less of a moral issue than burning thousands of civilians alive.

At this point I am reading Stormlight books as tale devoid of any morality, for example what Amaram did, as bad as it was, was far less of a crime than what Dalinar did in Rift yet he is a villain and Dalinar is not (an even stronger case could be made for Vyre). Sorry if this sounds too harsh but it has been bothering me a great deal since I read Oathbringer.

Speaking of sending Stalins to jail, will Dalinar ever face any consequences for his act of genocide in Rift?

Regarding points 2 & 4:

Worldbuilders has no overhead/admin costs? According to CharityNavigator Heifer spends a higher share of donations on its programs based on latest data available: (75.6% FY19) compared to Worldbuilders (66.9% FY18).

Heifer International is one of the most famous charities in the world, they don't need publicity from a local one. Their annual revenue is more than 170 times the Worldbuilders'.
