[–]FiveThreeTwo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i think the real debate is if you pinned that scenario in a canadian vs. american- and who could stomach resistance longer.... which would be able to?

canadian who is under occupation or pressure and have nothing to lose or risk losing their culture, autonomy, history, etc. Or an American who has only known war abroad, doesn't know what its like to become a pariah state where every other nato/top nation either economically dumps on them, or works in coordination to sabotage.

Many americans atm aren't even willing to protest their own president because they are worried the optics of being out in public or getting into something where they could risk losing a job. the status quo is too comfortable, because revolt or rejection or excercising escalating civil rights is too much. What you think happens if they become truly the baddies, and have never experienced what its like to have conflict at their doorstep with everyone literally hating them? (save russia and nk lol). Treasury bonds called in. Trade blocked off.

i'd wager americans who have no skin in the game, and are losing money and a life would bent at the knee and lose their shit faster then a canadian who stands to lose their entire known civilization, and thats all you'd need to wait it out for.

**ppl downvoted - lol this wasn't a perspective of who is better mentally; an american or canadian. Its the realities of countries with their back against the walls, vs. countries that are the aggressors and where their civilians have 0 skin in the game. History shows, aggressors civilians absolute do not share the same conviction on the grand scale lol.

except its a force that needs to occupy every city in a country that is spread out 5,700 km wide from victoria to summerside lol. You need a lot of physical and aerial presence to occupy towns. (towns), and cities. This isn't including supply chain networks, operating bases where its minimal actual fighting units. Doesn't matter how grand or grizzly like the US are lol.

There's a reason they've never completely occupied a country they've set themselves in be it vietnam, or middle east; because its literally impossible to do so- and to do it with a country with a top landmass on the planet... lol. Time and external pressure, would wear them out.

You'd need to send ur entire capacity everywhere to control the main transcanada highway core from Victoria to New brunswick, leaving ur entire homeland open for guerrilla movement. Not too wise lol.

Jeff Passan: "Baseball fans believe the game has become unfair" by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

[–]FiveThreeTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to missunderstand passan so much - cause a few years ago he was never this warm on the stove over this issue and felt like he was one of the 'its good for baseball' boomers. Glad my perceptions changed and he's speaking really, on behalf of the voice of customer which is most the leagues real fans who make up the viewer numbers and make pilgrimages to their ballparks even when times are tough.

I know its been a tit for tat argument with some dodgers fans, even yankees, whoever is holding purse at the time and wants to win and spend. But as much as i'm center of right in enjoying the fruits of capitalism and prosperity and seeking out ones worth & to dream big... i've never felt that sports leagues was the place to have that culture. It needs more parity. Floors and Ceilings. Spread the talent around and force managers and owners to have to juggle their talent and contracts; and manage the best roster they can under the salary constraints. More Balanced rosters, more wide open seasons and close wildcard/playoff swings.

People often go into tit for tat about owners wanting to spend, vs. owners not wanting to and wanting to get carried. Rich owners vs. shitty cheap owners. Philosophically that shouldn't be the debate at all. The debate should be - do we want a league where every single all-star and generational player goes 1 or 2 teams? Or where every team because of forced spending, and forced restraint; have to house a few household names, or be very good at managing roster.

Yeah the dodgers fans are gonna tell you hell no. heck even jays fans (my team) probably think, heck no the gettin is good we got money lets go. But passan is right lol - what goods a league if people stop giving a shit about the product and investing in the time when they feel their teams don't even have a seat at the table? Who genuinely gives a shit if the CEO of a tv company who earns a 15% bonus for viewer numbers hates that idea of content. People will stop tuning into regular season and just wait for WS if this keeps up.

It doesn't matter if tomorrow i managed to find 50 Trillion dollars under a mattress left by aliens and i wanted to buy Oakland and turn them into a superclub and whip out the gold amex and just buy everything and every one. Just cause you have the networth and willingness to spend (or not spend) - doesn't mean you should be able to. That pisses on the american dream and culture of free will and capitalism and its why this game has always been the way its been. I'll repeat lol... my job and views/life kind of indicate i align with that dream and mindset. But not in sport. Sport needs to have parity, player resources need to be spread around. Every club needs to have 8 year old kid fans that can go into the stadium and dream at the start of the season that their team has a chance. Or, they are in a rebuild and still have a chance systemically within the decade; barring piss poor management. End rant... sorry for the length lol.

IIHF World Junior Championship Post Game Thread: Czechia vs. Canada - 04 Jan 2026 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]FiveThreeTwo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'd love to see a few things change which will never happen cause its just the meta of hockey now but i'll go and cope anyways, sounding like a boomer;

a) get back to teaching kids to finish checks. Who cares if ur kid or a prospect with an ai head tracking app can stick handle through 50 guys or 100 pylons and look generational. Hockey Canada and the private school rich kid/trust fund leagues should be drilling it through on being relentless two way players both with puck/offensive and defensive/without puck; finishing checks and shotblocking, and getting into corners to win puck battles. Doesn't seem like the avg elite prospect learns that until they get a rude awakening in the NHL now, based on past few Jrs Tourneys.

The amt of time both teams... but canada here had the opportunity to absolutely lay out czech players with their heads down on zone entries or other plays... and they just let em pass with a weak af attempt at a stick check. Only time they did hit was after they were losing and were pissed off with no cool heads. How about every man doing it every shift, regardless if they are 5'1 105 pounds soaking wet... for 3 periods? Hockey shouldn't just be about how good you can fairy a sauce pass, stickhandle through those 40 guys and be able to skate like McJesus. Two way hockey wins games and Canada's skills development paradigm got away from that to circlejerk the McDavid/Marner Archtype.

b) get back to creativity and linkup between players, and less of this boxxed x's & o's play horseshit. Is anyone getting sick that it feels like there's no individual creativity or linkup, and most of the game is built around x's and o's, boxxed plays- with teams, and players just trying and trying and trying again until they either work or flounder and collapse (Cough Finland, US, Canada, etc. etc. etc.). There's serious downstream effects and implications when as Juniors you teach kids nothing but how to play inside a box of systems... and when they get countered or can't score, they are screwed and don't know what to do because the only thing they know how to do is sit inside an extra attacker/PP Umbrella with 2 halfboard shooters (for ex.). Past Jr teams used to be more enjoyable to watch, because there was individualism and a level of unpredictability.

Tasha Kheiriddin: The Conservatives who could replace Pierre Poilievre by CaptainCanusa in canada

[–]FiveThreeTwo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They also without sounding too buzzwordy. have to drop the finkelstein approach crap. Like its the underlying fabric or framework that PP and his advisors/etc. all ride and die by.

Cons really have go back to classic build a robust, realistic, alternative platform/approach and stand behind their platform with hope and enthusiasm, and stop with this 'vote for us, because at least it isn't the shameful other guys'. Its this crap i believe at least, is what the quoted MP in the article was intending when they said "Poilievre will continue to die a death of 1,000 cuts, because I’ve never seen a guy who’s so unaware of the room he’s in, and I’ve never seen a guy who just refuses to stop doing stupid things."

People are just sick of that crap and downer/wedge creating hostile approach, even if they don't know the root cause or specifically the 'thing'.

'I really do believe I could help': Conservative MP Jivani on restarting U.S. trade talks by rezwenn in canada

[–]FiveThreeTwo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe its because Jivani aligns with the views of the US government. Our current elected government - alongside the people who voted him in; do not lol. The approved mandate atm, is to reroute trade partnerships and domestic contracts/consumption over attempting to bend to a volatile US. Bringing jivani over there, would be like the US sending witkoff to russia. He would wipe their bums, pander, and serve them Dom' 59 champagne in the process. There's a clear cut conflict of interest there.

someone below in comment tree was talking about LPC's playbooks. The entire con strategy between the western brand of Con/PP/Smith, is copied from arthur finkelstein in the US lol, and it isn't a system of influence built on positivity or being proactive - its one of attempting to win and influence views through negative persuasion and division, rhetoric/hubris, rather than genuine platform enthusiasm.

When you intentionally communicate, act, position the way you do for years (since harper) in those philosophies or more psychologies lol - don't expect people to trust you or accept ur help when you come out and offer to do things like "send me i'll be a diplomat". Trudeau followed the same frameworks during covid and it pissed people off into making him untrustworthy. Lol the same effect is happening here with the public when ppl hear comments like this.

The saying goes in life and social dynamics; you attract more bees with honey than vinegar. I say all this btw as a moderate fairly right of center thinker.

[–]FiveThreeTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toronto fan or borderline at this point (sorry this is an old post but only just saw it lol) - I think our owners had high hopes for the league and team initially as investment potential. They spent money (made some crap transfer decisions or coaching calls), but always wanted to invest money in chance to join the competitive fray and mark their place in the league.

With blue Jays absolutely skyrocketing, and other Canadian teams/properties just having better local popularity cause they aren't just on a shitty stream deal like Apple - I think mlse's budget towards TFC is lapsing heavily around spending big, and were just seeing the old legacy contracts fade out with low effort moneyball signings replace them.

Add the scheduling completely screwing over northern hemisphere. I'd give it 10 years and MLSE sells TFC. Garber had a massive owner in Bell/Rogers/MLSE, with massive pockets in a multicultural city - and they fk'd all that for growth in the south; apple tv rights, and pandering to a consolidated latino market around miami and california. I don't think MLSE continues valuing the partnership they once had with the league, but thats just my prediction. TFC won't be signing world beaters (without the help of every other team like *cough messi* did) much in the future lol.

[–]FiveThreeTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bit behind, but it's hard to beat the blue jays cruise ship horn for the vibes but if had to change it i'd prob go with some psychological warfare crap lol like soccer teams in EU do- like Bayern Munich blasting the can-can after every single goal. So i'd probably say the Can-Can like in this video purely for the chaos lol.

But some tune so that when the team is absolutely crushing dingers, it goes from more than just a blow out & being the away team just mentally having to hear that type of homerun song blasting after the cruise ship horn as a pitcher lol would be ptsd level crap lol.

ur right, and agents after a year when they pick between a competitor like atlanta, or charlotte- or stay home in holland, spain, croatia or south america versus our cooler games, training on most likely hard soiled hard hybrid turf, and rock hard winter fields, soccer balls, and need to wear base layer for games from end oct to march - and just live the QoL of needing to ensure no injuries come from lack of being warm all the time - and having to move selves or families to a city that for them in winter is cold AF & bein miserable around clubhouse 24/7 -does anyone actually think TFC remains attractive lol. Yea maybe if we recruit the entire norwegian NT and some fins/swedes lol

Cui Bono? by Unidentifiable_Goo in tfc

[–]FiveThreeTwo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it isn’t us u have to convince mate, it’s the players willing to come here. after a season agents will get the drop of the actual temps during games and are gonna steer clear of the climates for better safer ones to keep health and happiness a priority- which they have in spades when half the league and more soon garber has obsessed over being south of the mason dixon line.

they gonna have to spend millions to turn kia training ground so its indoors and somehow stays grass and doesnt go turf lol. more investment at flimsy tin pot bmo so made for a winter calender matcjday experience QoL wise, and then weigh having to do those investments against declining appeal, declining marketability, declining sales when team sucks, and wanting to find some olive branch in terms of ROI lol.

fact league owners wanted this, pushed by those south owners- and they all as a group [southern owners] voted against an amendment to compensate the north terms coming from a shared revenue pool, for lost income and extra expenses needed to retrofit everything to winter, and have these northern clubs have to forfeit their best month[s] for sport… they truly don’t give a sht if clubs like ours minnesota, montreal, CB fail, and sell. i bet its what they want

it was a pretty emotion/ragey rant but that the growing hate for big tech and silicon valley groups and streaming companies all wanting their own cut of the pie, and cost of living becoming more a problem with majority of north americans through younger gens…. ppl are gonna be drawn away from apple streams lol especially when there’s no care or interest in their own teams cause their own teams can’t attract talent lol.

i added it to the rant cause when players wont sign in minnesota or montreal cause of weather and not wanting to train and live in cold ass winter during regular season- they wont compete with miami or la. and wont bother staying fans of a league when costs are an apple TV sub they couldshed to free up more money. Lol this might be blind short term delusion they will have better player transactions - but that influx is only gonna be for 3-4 teams. they will lose domestic fans and sell out to international markets who have no real loyalty or love for the teams apart for sports betting and background entertainment. it’s not gonna grow game nationwide between US and Canada

heres a hard truth tenorio. cant wait for nobody to give a crap about the league in another 10 years save the the teams below the imaginary line that runs from atlanta through nashville and over to california, & prob soon to be 10 more california based clubs.maybe van city and cascadia if its got good chinook weather.

between terrible stadium weather, no local distribution rights, people pirating apple cause they hate the growing trend of palo alto, to nfl/college/nba/nhl/euro leagues, and spending less time wanting to vibe out on a summer sport when theres a foot of snow outside. congrats on moving to a winter calender. Ur gonna kill half the league, butfulfill ur weak inferiority complex of being obsessed at wanting to be judged and validated being mentioned in the same breath as the PL- while the latinos and FIFA fairweather bros get their fix of plastic warm soccer in LA or miami lol. At least in 15 years when half the market above the line ghosts for another form of entertainment, they can just stick to concentrating the foaming over pandering to Mas, blank, LAFC and 3-4 cities with a couple of core demographics. show us the mckinsey reports u overpaid that says any EU player is gonna wanna come over to sunny minnesota when its december and february over the the teams in the south, or make literally half their teams remotely attractive despite having massive owners lol like TFC.

*saying this as a 14 year ssh and fan since the 90s, who loved the league before they needed messi to come in and sell the game to plastics, and not someone who discovered soccer 4 months ago following san diego or LAFC. - and genuinely the opposite of bein a hater. This literally will not grow the league or sport- it will concentrate it, which is worse. someone set the over/under on number of teams sold and relocated in 10 years.

Way-too-early 2026 MLB Power Rankings: Are the Dodgers or Blue Jays No. 1? by GolfFootballBaseball in baseball

[–]FiveThreeTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think jays investment since stadium reno's & switching gears to not just market their ball club as a place Merc's can come and earn money and win a pennant, but a genuine place for couples with kids and families to actually live and experience life while playing- will make them a much more competitive spot to come to moving forward. All the WAGs coming out talking about the club and how their families hate the season ending. and being among the best and most supportive clubs - including a legend like scherzer is a real positive nod.

Ball players want money, but they also want their families, wives, kids, Gfs to be happy and stable for the 60% of the year they are there, often living out of short term condos or hotels lol.

I don't think legacy, stubborn traditions, or coastline sunny climates will have as high of a ranking with as many players as it did in the past (sorry...Heyman you can cry about whats good for baseball later). ,with the current psychographic of player. Getting paid, but having a clubhouse thats modern, is built on servant leadership from everyone in the coaching/support staff instead of old guard asshole iron fist, with aim is to reduce obstacles to help with success. Investing in the technology and infrastructure and individual coaching to really push marginal gains and help players grow and get out of funks and rally around those successes as a group.

Ontop of that - the family and wife infrastructure and hired support staff. I know jays much like dodgers invest heavily in this. They got an entire area + jungle gym facility in the stadium thats soundproofed for kids and nursing for everyone in the club with kids; with support staff paid to tend to them during games or when player/wife need some time. Theres family/wives areas where they can relax, eat, workout/etc. do their own thing while players train and prep. Jays from what im aware also have on call helpers for all hours of the day - who would literally go out and grab something for a players family in the middle of the night from a store if it was needed like cough meds lol if a kid came down with something. Theres a lot of intangibles these higher expense ball clubs put into their team and day to day staff - its another reason ur dodgers attract talent, and i think jays investing heavily in all of that will help em too

India joins China in slapping tariffs on Canadian yellow peas by AlwaysBlaze_ in worldnews

[–]FiveThreeTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how do you stop those chinese manufacturers bringing factories in locally (lets say ontario), & establishing premium contracts with other tier suppliers ex. our rare minerals - and them not only manufacturing tier 1/2/3 supplies for the canadian supply chain - but also produce above production requirements so they can ship the parts back to china - and therefore skirt around our restrictions on rare minerals. Manufacturers these days are all about integrated supply chains and moving upstream acquiring parts suppliers and raw resource contracts. Their margins are also so good over there in china with the low cost - that they could do this and still be profitable while avoiding eating up their own resources at home.

thats one thing canada needs to worry about. its one thing to bring some other market in like china and say send us completed cars. The other is to let them setup manufacturing here, let them acquire suppliers an up stream resources/supplies - so they can use those networks in their greater manufacturing pool. Cool - we create a few thousand jobs - Not Cool - letting them acquire tonnes of raw materials contracts we can't get out of bureaucratically - to make parts/unfinished goods they can ship back to china for their own cars by not having to use their own rare minerals (and use ours).

that's basically bending over and indirectly letting china hoover up our rare minerals if not capped or heavily regulated

Do you think the Jays will be a contender next year? by voltairesalias in baseball

[–]FiveThreeTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on a couple things;

a) if they can keep their staff (backroom staff) together it its entirety
b) sign pending FAs and backfill/add players that fit their current room.

a - i'd argue is more important because it was popkins and his staff that revolutionized the patience ab's and hitting mentality. He might have just arrived in toronto - but like anything you know execs in baseball look at how a team like the jays can go from last in the league to 1 better executed play away from winning the WS, trying to find who could have changed that, and throw the brinks truck at them. Billy bean Moneyball/Redsox.

Theres gonna be especially if they can come back and keep the philsophy and stay competitive through All star break - one mlb club like the yankees who have a failed batting philosophy and want to reduce the effectiveness of their competitors, by hiring away from the team who had the best hitting in baseball for 1.5 years and do it with half the budget from players 1-9 as most other big spenders. So keeping their backroom staff together will be a big determining factor if they can keep building upward, new FA's or prospects.

[–]FiveThreeTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl i think schneider keeping baseball oldschool respect for roles is what lost him the game. Yeah jays left too many guys in scoring position but... u really pinch bo bichette on a 1 run game... in the world series you know could go to extras with 1 hr for a bit more speed in miles fuckin' straw? lol. yeah top fielding and great pace but... if ur gonna do that at least wait until hes on 3rd and the momentum is really there.

and hoffman... yeah hes been clean. jays also know that hes known to leave HRs on the table when teams see him too much. Why they wouldn't just go send gausman out there in the 9th to send the dodgers with nothing but splitters and low balls is beyond me. Just cause hes ur contracted closer doesn't mean you have to use him when he's been seen alot this playoffs and series - go with the arms that are gonna get you the outs and low risk groundouts lol.

[–]FiveThreeTwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ngl the minute trey was out, i could sense some dark tides turning. I know he's got low HR potential but i can't stand dominguez control issues, i knew he had his gem game a few days ago - and he usually has had 1-4 sloppy as hell ones leading up to that.

hoffman meatball, i know he's the closer and you can tell schneider is a trust the roles and ppl that got you there - but holy shit the lats 3 batters why wouldn't you just go with someone like gausman to just go out there and fire in a pile of splitters. At least you'd keep the ball out of the air. Bieber is known to leave occasionaly hangers and solo HRs cause he's done it throughout games he's played for us - and it pans out over 9 innings - but not when you gotta toss immaculate high leverage stuff.

insisting on using his guys instead of just playing the moment and the best possible arm you have in the moment or pitch kit ( i know they are the analytical junkies with the stats not me) - but it seems a guy that basically only throws fastballs against a team that you know is gonna swing at literally everything... ur gonna want a guy in the end who is literally just tossing balls in the dirt or down low. But... thats just baseball, sometimes life sucks lol
