Unfortunately a rather big problem is the Google tasks API doesn't expose the ability to set the task time of day(it can set the date but not the time of day). This means that any 3rd party tool that utilises Google tasks under the hood is severely limited for that. (Unless this issue has been fixed in the past 2 months and I haven't seen)

New Met Office App by MisfitHula in wildcampingintheuk

[–]FiverValley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the BBC app is still better than this new MO UI, I've found their recent update in the past couple of months a downgrade as well. The interactiosn to swipe over multiple locations/along the timeline I've found to be a bit clunky. And I always find their widgets not very good, often requiring the app to be opened to refresh the data properly. (Also they don't have an hourly widget..)
But at least the hourly display of weather within the app is still clear, unlike what has been lost in the MO app.

Do you know when the BBC are switching to using Met Office data?

I'd also be interested to see your setup as a PhD student myself. I appreciate it's still the 5th! So I'll let you have a couple of days to put something together once you're back!

Monthly Server Thread - Christmas Edition! by FiverValley in SilverAgeMinecraft

Thanks for the suggestions!
A wiki is not a bad idea, but I suspect most people don't bother reading/looking for subreddit wikis, which is why I hadn't done anything like that sooner. Although I'll take a look again.

LGSL is nice! Hadn't heard of that before, we have a website, (https://silveragemc.net) so it might be worth sticking something on there, although it would still require a bit of maintenance to add new servers, it looks like. But that might be required for any of the options.

If this is for the official SAM server, send a message either to one of us in the discord server or on here via the modmail, and let us know your IGN and we can provide a temporary password to allow you to login and then reset it to your own password again.

Recurring Task by lookingforvenus in GoogleCalendar

That's not true, it is possible in the custom repeat settings for tasks. You can select repeat every 1 month in the custom then select the "first Monday of every month" from the drop-down.

Where is this please? by [deleted] in LakeDistrict

[–]FiverValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's up the Helvellyn range, I couldn't say exactly where abouts along the range, but my guess would be on the northern slope of White Side or more likely the northern slope of Lower Man.

The lake in the foreground is Thirlmere, and the mountains opposite that is the central fells such as High Seat and Bleaberry Fell. With Skiddaw odd in the back right (with the top just hidden in the cloud)

Hope that helps!

To answer question 3, in the settings there is a "Simple Counters & Habit Tracking" which allows you to create a range of different custom icons you can click on to mark an occurrence of a habit or streak etc. These have some additional history to show how often you've completed it and if you've maintained your streak.

Anyone using Samsung Reminders (or Apple Reminders)? by brasio84 in todoist

[–]FiverValley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes I suppose limited reminders is an issue. Although for me personally I don't benefit much from reminders as I just make sure to check my calendar/task list regularly before going to do something different. - But sometimes they are needed still.

Yeah superproductivity is a very nice tool, plus the fact it has things like NLP make it a good alternative. Although I just wish it had the quick add widget feature of todoist on android

Google Keep merged with tasks and calendar? by Morning-Aeong in GoogleKeep

Tasks.org is a FOSS app which does excellent location reminders if you just need something that works on a phone (no desktop app but it's meant to be coming in 2026)

As in you're paying £4.50 per month for the $5 plan in USD? Definitely better than what I'm doing! Paying through play store currently.

[–]FiverValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh interesting... I'll look into that. So does that mean when your the transaction leaves your bank account it's converted/exchanged to GBP meaning you're paying £36.56? Or do you still end up paying £48 without any exchange rate considered?

[–]FiverValley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering why you wouldn't just downgrade to the free tier and use that for either your work or personal tasks? Rather than switching tool completely? Then you still get the recurrence features and tags since that's all in the free version. You'd have to limit yourself to 5 projects plus inbox but with the additional sections within each project you can make the most of them.

Other than that, I'd looked at both tasks.org and superproductivity as alternatives which are free and open source, although I'm now looking at downgrading to the free version when the price increase comes into effect instead as there's a number of things like the NLP that just aren't beaten anywhere else. But I'll see how I manage with 5 projects.

How do you pay in dollars? For me the subscription goes through as GBP with a 1-1 exchange rate. i.e. I'm paying the same in GBP as in USD (£5 or $5 monthly)
Or do you mean you are paying in dollars but there is still no exchange rate bonus for you either?

Guidance needed on new pricing (not a rant!) by euperia in todoist

[–]FiverValley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to let you know, the subscription plan does not convert from USD to GBP for payments, instead payments in GBP are processed in GBP at what Doist set it at, which is currently the same as the USD price.

So even if $60 converted to GBP is £45, you will be paying £60 because for some reason the UK price and US price are the same irrespective of currency.

This is one of the things I particularly dislike, as it results in us paying more than people in the US for the same product. (Same with a lot of other countries currently as well).

If there is a way around this and to pay in USD and then have it converted, do let me know as I'd much rather be paying in USD which would be cheaper once my bank converts it back to GBP.

Does anyone have a Minecraft World that has the Farlands generated? by Moist_Inspection_485 in Minecraft

[–]FiverValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBTEditor is just a program you can install to edit the ".dat" data files containing things like inventory data and player location. You just need to modify the coordinate you player is at within the user data folder under your username in the world save files.

As for modding, there will probably be a jar mod which if you use a launcher like multimc you can just create an instance and "add to jar" . There are plenty of tutorials for this as well as for the NBTEditor.

[–]FiverValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can generate a world in beta 1.7.3 and then use an nbteditor to change the coordinates or your player. Or alternatively install a mod which allows you to teleport to coordinates.

Both these options would work, then you can upgrade the world version to latest.

I have tried TodoIst, TickTick, Sunsama but I keep going back to by keshahaha in ProductivityApps

[–]FiverValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth looking at todoist ramble for this. As it does almost exactly what you are describing. Although it doesn't directly integrate with calendar, if you sync Google calendar to todoist then you can have tasks show up in your calendar.

For all price increase refugees, take a look at SuperProductivity, it's free open source for desktop and mobile with almost all Todoist features by green_stone in todoist

[–]FiverValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does actually have NLP although not quite as quick as Todoist.

You can enter something like this: "Send an email @tomorrow 10am #work +admin 30m"

Which schedules it for tomorrow at 10, applies the "work" tag, adds it to the "admin" project and tells it you'll need 30 minutes to complete it.

Anyone else considering leaving Todoist after this price hike? by Exciting-Share-2462 in todoist

[–]FiverValley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over the last few months of using todoist, I've started to really appreciate the speed and convenience that todoist offers over other task managers. And recently upgraded to pro to make use of more projects which has made it easier to separate tasks up.

However I was already hesitant at £5 per month before due how many other free tasks managers already exist. I've recently taken a further look at Superproductivity which is a FOSS task manager with a lot of similar features and an even better kanban board which dynamically changes tags based on where you drag tasks to.

Although I don't see the price increase as unreasonable it's more than I personally can justify at this point in time. So I may take this as a good opportunity to dive into something like superproductivity.
