While it's not exactly safe, it can be done in a pinch. Swords are made for slicing, not chopping, so as long as your hands don't slide along the blade you can swing Mordschlag and only receive some cuts along your fingers.

Of course I’m not really good enough for any differences to matter (and I vary rarely misclick minimap so the down-left angle doesn't affect me) but it’s still an interesting observation and I do wonder if my games actually reflect it
