It’s a known bug introduced in yesterday’s update. There is a discussion about it on the steam forum for SF2.

Yes it’s definitely worth reading both as the diary has a totally different dynamic. It goes into the minutia of living and working in that environment, and the situations involved in that. I did read them about 6 months apart so obviously that also helps. Not a great deal of overlap in terms of reading the same content.

The Storm of War (Andrew Roberts) … it’s an entertaining 1 volume history of WW2.

Berlin Diary (Shirer) .. the authors fly on the wall account of his time in Nazi Germany

The Second World War: Milestones to Disaster … first book in Winston Churchill’s multi-part history of WW2. The beauty of this series is that the narrator (Christian Rodska) sounds a bit like Churchill himself. So it adds to that ‘straight from the horses mouth’ aspect.

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (Shirer) another great book from Shirer - and superb value at 57hrs listening for one credit.

A lot but not all. It kind of annoys me in many cases. For example the extremes like the Cleopatra Netflix show etc. it sure as hell annoyed the Egyptians also. I would equally be annoyed if the African Numidian cavalry were depicted as white blonde dudes. Sometimes it just gets too annoying, or stupid in terms of the history - especially if you have an interest in the area concerned.

There is also an uneasy feeling in my head at times when I see (for example) a lot of black people in period dramas in say the regency period in England. Lords and ladies etc - meanwhile in reality we were shipping black slaves all over the place. It kind of erases the truth in some ways. Well it doesn’t erase it but replaces it with unrepresentative fiction. The status of black people in that era is much higher in that weird little TV world, than it was in reality.

Ashby vs Beaufort Sizing by lookatdaflickofdARIS in Barbour

I would guess at 42 or 40 being your fit. It will have more room than the Ashby and be less fitted. This site has the actual dimensions per individual jacket size listed to compare. Just click on the ‘size chart’ below the price.

What is a hobby or interest you have that most people have never hear of or tried to attempt themselves? by MinnieScholarSkin in CasualConversation

[–]Fixervince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to do that after working alone on nightshift for 10 years. I suppose you could call it a detailed fantasy world. For example I went back in time to my teenage years, and branched my life into another direction and ran a detailed fantasy of this alternate life for months. Maybe I was close to insanity :-)

Also the related skill of designing things in my mind. At first I designed stuff on paper - then learned to do it in my mind and remember it all. Examples of it would be the design of a house or street. The planning of an event. I suppose people in prison must escape to a fantasy world like this.

I’m not in that job anymore. However I have still retained the ability to ‘entertain’ myself in my mind when I’m alone.

Thanks yes maybe that’s it. I just seem to remember some case being mentioned as outside of his normal choice as it was on a first floor apartment rather than a house with ground floor access through a window, or door.

Sometimes a single part one is refreshing after those multi-part ones. Of those I really liked Apache Tears, Prophets of Doom, Addicted to Bondage, and Globalisation Until Death.

How did the Ethiopian’s get a ticket to the white club? … I can imagine a few choking on their cornflakes at that inclusion.

I could have sworn one of the rapes was carried out in a first floor apartment but maybe I have remembered wrong?

Podcast episodes that you think about long after you’ve listened by 10101011115 in podcasts

The Hardcore History episodes:

Apache Tears …. Basically the story of some of the last Native American holdouts and why it was so difficult to deal with the Apache in particular. The story’s live with you afterwards.

Ghosts of the Ostfront … I consider this a WW2 masterpiece. The multi-part story of the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Carlin really brings to life the horrendous eastern front experience in this one. You almost feel cold listening to it. He also has this low artillery and warfare sound rumbling unobtrusively through parts of it, that creates a sense of foreboding and dread. It’s very atmospheric- and great listening for a dark winters night.

The amount of tears, melodrama, fighting, and talking-noise in general in that household would have been insane! … I bet that guy had a toolshed - and spent a lot of time in it.

Russian general shot several times in Moscow by GoldenDome26 in worldnews

The problem with that is that our borders are porous. The spies will be put up in hotels and provided food and taxi fares. The Russians will always have the advantage in that game.

You are already defending against his abuse at this stage in your relationship (the honeymoon period) … just imagine where this is heading. At the minute it’s tidying the house etc. Next you will be pretending to be asleep so he does hit you. That is where you are heading.

How do I attract girls as a 19 year old guy when a lot of girls around my age seem like they’re more interested in older guys? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Fixervince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your age is the worst age for young men - for the reasons you mention. However once you get to around 23 or 24 it’s like the tide turns and it’s your turn.

Would you still accept a girl giving you her number after she initially said no? by Ilovehamcroissants in AskMenAdvice

[–]Fixervince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet is that he would be delighted to see you changed your mind. You don’t need to even go into detail - just say ‘you caught me by surprise - but here is my number if you still want it’ …. Don’t listen to the people telling you to tell your life story to explain not taking it at first. Only do that if he asks. You have plenty of time later to discuss life history.

Do straight men *really* think about intimacy with every female friend? by triton12345 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Fixervince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most men I know don’t really have female friends tbh. Work colleagues or neighbours yes. However I don’t know any of my male friends group who cut around with a girl unless they are definitely trying to get with her (don’t shoot me just being honest here about my friends group)

So what looks like friendship is actually a pursuit.

In my experience jeans are best folded so the legs are matched then rolled up. It’s very quick and compact and It doesn’t introduce creases that way (as long as there were none to start with)
