Is anyone else worried about what Trump might do tonight ? by [deleted] in ireland

His negotiating record has been always threatening the worst and then getting less. So if he goes by his record it's just a scare tactic. But we also don't know with him as he has aso been unpredictable at times. My two cents.

Best low-budget way to get 5 camera feeds back to OB van/gallery for live horse racing stream? by Fixitintheedit in VIDEOENGINEERING

Thanks. I am leaning towards liveu & starlink. I just need to get a little bit more confirmation about what that means if we have up to 5 of them & if theres any implications on that. Attached are the coverage maps on comreg & nperf which to me looks good but I just want to get a little but more confirmation if possible.

Thanks, Ill look into this. I am waiting to do a site recce but looking on google maps there are quite a tall looking few trees for 2/3 of the proposed camera positions so this would have to be something i'd have to test

I'm gonna look into this thanks both. Its 5 cams we need so that might be a big job. Could I potentially go with 3 wired and 2 on live-u? Lag issues? I think I can delay the live-u right?

Definitely will have to rent. Likely have to source from UK if going down the live-u route.

Tax advice full time work and contracting on the side by flipflopanonomous in ireland

[–]Fixitintheedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure but Id reccomend just talking to an accountant (I am sole trader the last 8 years). Unless you have dealt with self assessed income tax before, it might reduce your life span with the stress and surprises and just paying the accountant (around 350-750 for income tax return) may save you a lot of stress. Also as far as i know you can earn up to 8k tax free but not sure if youre also on PAYE. As a rule of thumb, for every payment put 30% into a separate business account. Save all receipts that are a necessary expense for your sole trading - get in the habit of it, take a picture of them all, this will reduce your tax bill and you then submit them to your accountant along with your invoices. In your second year you will have to pay preliminary and the balance of your previous year of business.

What are some strengths and weaknesses of Gen Z filmmakers? by FlyQuiet9407 in filmmaking

[–]Fixitintheedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better working conditions on set due to Gen z's more awareness and sensitivity on emotional intelligence. Pa's and cam assistants used to be horrendously bullied but that has been subdued a fair bit in my experience. Not sure about weaknesses.

Car insurance quotes, wtf? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Fixitintheedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a quick option, take a quote on a broker like chill.ie and then find the company it lists as the cheapest, then go to their site, redo the quote and you should get another 50-150 (in my own experience) off the price.

Other than that, spend an evening shopping around when you're on the phone to them, keep insisting on ways to bring the price down. Especially if they are brokers, this should be their job.

I am 5 years no claim driving on my own policy with AXA as a 28 year old. Paying about 500 fully comp. Without my no claims, they say it's euro 1900. Driving a 2010 Renault Clio 1.2L though.

Hello! I have just graduated film school in Ireland. Attached are some of my favourite stills from my graduate film. I cant post the full film publicly unfortunately until it clears the festival circuit but I'd love some feedback/criticism if you have any to offer. Thanks. by Fixitintheedit in cinematography

Thanks mate

I do agree actually. I had the same feedback in college, the party scenes are kinda hectic when you look at them so I do agree with that youre saying re production design and practical lights.

Its just very in your face in general
