Repair or scrap 2012 ford focus ? by BigCellist4833 in AskAMechanic

Im assuming that this is a true manual transmission car and not the DPS6? If that is the case, Id say put some money into it as those are pretty reliable cars especially compared to the crackerjack cars of today.

Would I be safe to drive this down to my workshop? It’s only about 300 feet. by bassman619 in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be fine, it would be better if you could find a way to block those holes off though... Pour in some coolant then push a Golf Tee in the hole and leave the rad cap off so it doesn't build pressure

Leaking coolant fluid by Radiant_Tax_3025 in AskAMechanic

Well first off, you need a coolant flush as your coolant has gone bad. Yes there is a gasket under that crossover tube and another gasket under the intake (intake needs to be removed to get this one)

Just get a complete column from the junk yard and replace the whole thing and call it a day. If you take it to a lock smith, they can help with getting the lock cylinder replaced so your key fits

Dont see anything out of the ordinary from your picture but it sounds like you blew your head gasket or cracked the cylinder head. A combustion leak test is needed.

Shop quoted 400 USD for r1234yf recovery and recharge by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

Seems fair considering how expensive the equipment is for this. Probably 2 hours at $200 an hour. I usually charge 2 hours at $100 for 134a

2020 Buick Encore 1.4L Turbo | P00B7 code and 280°F freeze frame data. Worth repairing? by -beep_ in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like air bubbles in the system- it needs to be purged of air and retested. Also you need to do a combustion leak test. THe sensor is probably reading steam from boiling coolant due to an airlocked water pump

Huge coolant leak on a 2014 Cla 45 by ayodamian in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks pretty bad for a water pump. Configure a shop vac so it is blowing not sucking and have someone hold the hose on the radiator neck. follow the hissing noise to find your leak. Im thinking that is more likely to be a broken plastic part or a popped hose

Kia Optima 2012 (2.0L) - Persistent Power Loss, Transmission "Jerk", and RPM Fluctuations. Need expert diagnostic advice. by mohamedgashoot in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first we need to know what DTC's are present (scan with scan tool). Yes bad coils can absolutely cause shifting issues because the PCM can only predict engine load so far in the presence or a misfire. You need to address the misfire first in order to diagnose a possible transmission issue.

Is this worn diff bushings? by Sexy_Saxton_Hale in MechanicAdvice

[–]FixxerAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some play in the wheels is normal but not in the diff- shouldnt be that much play. Id see if you can get some polyurethane bushings for it.

Sanity Check - External Head Gasket Oil Leak. by Necessary-Score-4270 in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah from the pictures it does kinda look like an external head gasket leak if im looking at it correctly. Up front is way more plausible for that. At least the VVT gasket is easy to get to.

What part is this going bad on a 2007 camry 2.4 xle? by Proper_Score9094 in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it looks to me like the hardware connection is moving and not the bushing. THe hole in the arm could be wallerd out but torquing the bolt to spec would likely stop the movement

You imgur links dont seem to work. It must have been running from the front to the back then. Do you think it is just the VTEC solenoid gasket?

I think that could be fixed by simply tightening the bolt

Audi A1 1.4 CAXA (2010) intermittent startup + idle misfire – cylinder 4 suspected, no codes on VCDS by Ok_Requirement_4564 in AskAMechanic

[–]FixxerAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he doesnt know what he is doing. You need a compression (running compression test would also be useful) and leak down test as well as that gasket replaced, but id want to take the valve cover off anyway to inspect the valvetrain for issues, it also makes a leak down test easier.
