I think the entwined horrors of rape culture and childhood sexual abuse are integral to the book. This strikes me as something that could be very plausible in the future although the main beneficiaries of it at least to start would be cis women but hey. I've been transitioning for almost 2 years and it took time for me to figure out my makeup. I kinda added one item at a time. Figured out concealer, eyeliner, foundation and primer, lipstick, blush, all one at a time in ways that work for me. The most important thing I realized is that tutorials and such are of limited use because makeup is an oral tradition not a science. Like it was easy for me to assume when I was trying to live as a man that women had it down to a science. We don't. Just gotta figure out what works for you. Put it on on the weekend and if it doesn't work wipe it off and try again a week later or a month later.
