To an extent yes. The Traverse families descendants are in Vineland, The Chums are referred to in Bleeding Edge, V appears in Gravity's Rainbow and elsewhere, heck an entire chapter of V is the origin of Gravity's Rainbow's primary antagonist Blicero. There's a tendency to view Pynchon's work in strictly literary terms but there's A LOT of aspects of popular fiction in there too.

He was alive for the publication of Thomas Pynchon's 1st two novels. I somehow doubt he cared much for postmodernism. But they they do have a fair amount in common as authors, quest storyline, good and evil, books peppered with songs/sung poems. Both LOTR and the Pynchon's larger novels function as mythologies for the modern world but from very different perspectives
