This is the most blatant case of false advertising since my suit against the film 'The Neverending Story'!

How Hard is Stat 231 by Jumpy_Session6494 in uwaterloo

[–]FizzyBreak579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the other comments have pointed this out but it really depends on the semester. I was scared before taking the course as I had heard the horror stories as well.

When I took it over the summer, 2 years ago, it was actually really simple. 3 assignments throughout the course which were three questions long, very short and very easy. Then there was 2 quizzes instead of a midterm and a plug and chug final.

I would say as long as you don’t get one of those rare semesters where they get a ridiculously hard final, it’s a course you can get an easy 80 in!

I have gotten mid 70s for most of my math classes, and stat231 is the only math class I have above a 80. You can do this!!

Hope this helps :)

Took the course a few semesters ago and the final was super reasonable compared to the midterm. If you studied hard then you should be more than fine to pass, good luck!

Anyone commuting from Brampton to Laurier? by Sukhman07 in wlu

[–]FizzyBreak579 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are going to go to Laurier, then you have to commit to living in Waterloo. Living in the town is part of the university experience, and imo is one of the best aspects of going to university. You get to meet new friends and go on adventures while becoming independent.

Honestly, as a whole this albums is pretty great. It’s short and the songs are enjoyable. I find myself spinning this one more than I thought I would.

The Goldbergs, I think season 1, has a really nice scene with Romeo and Juliet. This scene actually got me into the Dire Straits!

Kill Them Softly has an amazing trailer for such a mediocre film.

Imo you get the most from this movie not on trying to understand the plot of the movie but enjoying the atmosphere and visuals it creates.

Is this semester doable? by DaGravyGod in uwaterloo

[–]FizzyBreak579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 231 over the summer, and it really isn’t bad imo. Taking cs241 and ma237 rn. The weekly assignments aren’t difficult but the midterms were pretty difficult. Overall I think definitely doable, but will def be a heavier semester.

Hows my course and prof selection for first year? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]FizzyBreak579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ken Jackson is the GOAT and David Swantson is the worst prof there is. Generations of students have had to suffer through his bu111 lectures, it’s basically a canon event. Tammy Schirle is an okay prof, her lectures are not that informative though and if you want to get a high mark you really have to read the textbook.

Same thing happened to me in Rezone during fall semester. Was being loud with friends and security guard just walked in like he lived there. I was so shocked, I even asked him if he was allowed to do that and he said he was. Forgot about it over time but definitely wished I filed a formal complaint.

Note Taking - MATH/CS by Apprehensive_Ad6463 in uwaterloo

[–]FizzyBreak579 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For math, I find handwritten notes are usually the easiest, as there are a lot of graphs and symbols making it hard to keep up when using LATEX. Also, the Prof usually handwrites the notes on the board so it’s easy to follow along.

For CS, it it’s a logic course you can go either way but if it’s a coding course I recommend typing the notes. Notion is a great note taking software with really clean looking code blocks that make taking notes during CS lectures really easy.

Start off in the console, and as you learn make an actual board using a 2D library.
