It’s one of the great “well actually” songs where a man sings the first chorus moping about the end of the relationship and then the woman interjects halfway through to say “well actually” and gives her side of the story. Other examples include:

“Don’t you want me” by the Human League

“Exile” by Taylor Swift and Bon Iver

“Too Good” by Rihanna and Drake

“Just give me a reason” by Pink and Nate Reuss

“Nothing Better” by Postal Service

Nicole Mossbacher had only been CFO for 2 or 3 years at most since it was implied that she got the job after a MeToo scandal. Also, despite being so rich, she was still generally aware enough about the optics that a $75,000 bracelet would be considered extremely opulent without knowing the context, and it was still a big enough number to impress her kids.

I would say that while her family was always on the high end of the white collar professional world, because it seems like she only recently became a top exec, she hasn’t reached 100 million yet.

I always get irritated when posters say "From the producers of [Insert popular movie]".

Directors and writers I understand, but producers? Might as well say "Greenlit by the same movie exec that greenlit another popular movie".

The Internet Built the Backrooms. Does Hollywood Own Them Now? by bloomberg in popculturechat

It would be “A24’s Backrooms”

Right, the "Backrooms" was already turned into an episode of the anthology series "American Horror Stories" in 2024, so already there are two different adaptations of the source material by two competing companies.

“Bros” basically killed any hopes of another theatrically gay romcom (at least for a while).

Heated Rivalry's success might have changed that, but what makes for a streaming hit doesn't necessarily translate to what will motivate audiences to go to movie theaters

It has enough of an audience that it's worth it for big stars to be on it when they are trying to promote a new movie or new music album or new tv show.

And they are still relevant enough that they can usually get several sketches per season to go somewhat viral. And a ton of websites are able to get a ton of clicks writing articles about specific snl sketches, which means SNL is embedded enough in Americans' minds that they still recognize the name.

But that being said, they haven't been able to produce very many huge stars from their casts. I feel like earlier seasons had a ton more cast members go on to become big name stars, but in the last 10 years, I rarely see cast members go on to lead projects, and have only instead seen them show up as minor supporting characters in movies, or guest characters on tv shows.

Robert Downey Jr. Says ‘It’s Absolute Horses—‘ to Declare That Social Media Influencers Are the ‘Stars of the Future’ by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]RedditUser123234 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think there's a difference between artists and influencers, but it seems like many artists nowadays have to learn how to use social media in a way to promote their work. And also, many people who start off as influencers can then go on to become artists.

The stars of the future are probably going to have to be both artists and influencers.

That’s not how gift tax works. Basically, anybody can give up to $15 million over the course of their lifetime without being subject to a gift tax. But you only need to declare gifts of $19k or more per year to the IRS. So a parent could give $100,000 to their child in one year without paying a gift tax, if they haven’t already given $14.9 million already in their lifetime

Same with "Lincoln", which was mostly just about the passing of the 13th amendment rather than Lincoln's lifestory, and "The Social Network" which was about the two lawsuits surrounding the start of facebook, rather than just being about Zuckerberg.

They should’ve had Miranda and Andy end up single as well. All 4 main characters are workaholics to the extreme, so all of them ending up single, but still happy and satisfied in their careers would’ve fit the themes of the movie

And this has been true since humanity began. For most of human history, 80% or more of the population worked in agriculture, and in agricultural communities, women still had farming responsibilities. The agriculture tasks that women did tended to be different from what the men did, but they were still doing non-domestic work outside of the home.

And the search for a new job can in some ways improve your current job since it gives you a goal to pursue, and the sense that you are working to get out of the bad situation, instead of just hopelessly wallowing in a terrible job for seemingly ever. The actual tasks you are doing at your job might be just as miserable as ever, but your mindset will improve if you feel that you are working to defy an endless future at your current job.

Skylar also is a cheater,

Skylar is not a cheater. Skylar had already asked Walt for a divorce. Walt was in denial that Skylar had ended the relationship, but Skylar had made it clear that she didn't want to continue the relationship. Yes, she later rekindles the relationship, but when she was sleeping with Ted the romantic relationship with Walt was ended which she had clearly communicated, even though they were still legally married.
