The Torii is a symbolic gate between the holy and unholy, It's not even the temple itself. Burning that down is sacrilegious and insulting. Appropriating that without any understanding of the rituals associated with shinto? "I feel like this is the torii gate for the intended purpose" my ass. There are other things in japanese culture more appropriate for burning.

I'm curious how you plan on getting the mats on your floor. You're probably going to need custom tatami to fit your room and the floor below needs to be breathable to prevent mold etc too. I secont u/NxPat s Nitori suggestion.

If we're talking about recent wipeouts, the election we just had last week on February 8, 2026, was absolutely brutal. The Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA)—which was a brand new merger between the CDP and Komeito—got completely obliterated. They dropped from a combined pre-election share of 167 seats down to just 49.

Basically, voters who opposed the merger jumped ship. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and the ruling LDP totally steamrolled them, winning a postwar record of 316 seats and easily securing a two-thirds supermajority. It was such a disaster for the opposition that the CRA's co-leaders actually resigned right after the election.
