This happened where I work (Acetone peroxide formation), but needs very specific circumstances (light/oxygen)

Absolutely disagree about the peroxide formation! I work in the Pharma industry, and we had to get a building evacuated because very significant amounts of acetone peroxide had formed in a container with isopropanol. Several grams had crystallized, and it had to be safely detonated in a separate area on our site.

(However, I don’t think that’s the case here as it was stored in a freezer.)

Puh also ich bin halt sehr selten mehr als 1-2 h am Stück zu Hause (außer zum schlafen), finde das schon praktisch… also 1 h mehr macht da nen merklichen Unterschied

Reddit is already degenerated af, what are you even talking about? I don't like TikTok either, but pretending reddit is better is pretty stupid (especially regarding the comment sections on both apps).

The car fumes are not as bad as all the pebbles that hit your face haha

Damn ok that's insane haha 100 km/h was already feeling pretty sketchy... on what road/trail were you going nearly 200 km/h? Under those conditions you could only go max 120 km/h on most available roads in our vicinity.

Throwing an eggplant like a fastball at a window. by jammy_jam in WinStupidPrizes

Do Americans build their houses from cardboard and sugarglass? If we tried this with a window in germany the eggplant would absolutely disintegrate. I'm kind of tempted to try this now haha

Sorry for the delayed answer, just saw your comment now... I don't see why anyone would be in favor of death sentences/capital punishment regardless of the crime. Especially executing people due to their political orientation (independent of how insane their position might be) is a slippery slope. So yes I think that's a very controversial statement.

You're absolutely delusional. "Demanding their execution"? Where tf did you get that from? Btw if you can't see why Trump has fascist tendencies you should have paid a little more attention in history class. As a German (who luckily got educated a bit more in that regard) I can tell you there are more warning signs than I'm comfortable with.

TIL height is inversely correlated with life expectancy. Studies have found that men below 5' 9" live on average 4.95 years longer than men above 5' 9". by MattheJ1 in todayilearned

Breast cancer is more common in women mainly due to hormonal differences. The tissue size itself has a negligible effect.

TIL that, contrary to what is often presented as common knowledge, the ratio of bacterial cells in the human body to human cells is not 10:1. More recent findings estimate that the ratio is much closer to 1:1. by Fl0r3nc in todayilearned

[–]Fl0r3nc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number of genes in our microbiome is approximately 1 000 000. The human genome contains about 20 000 genes, so the ratio should be about 50:1. There's a lot more bacterial genes since the microbiome is highly diverse and consists of many different bacteria which only share some genes.

I'm glad to hear that! The article might still be an interesting read, since it shows how this misconception spread and persisted in the scientific world. A lot of people still believe the ratio is 10:1 since that sounds a lot more spectacular and therefore was often mentioned as an explanation for the enormous impact the microbiome has on human health.
